I'm getting a jump on this before tomorrow. I want there to be a thread that is devoted to the CID, no more speculation or wish-listing. When everything drops (I'll be at work, so it might be some time) I will edit this post to include the week 1 CID models/theme and changes. If someone wants to post up the models, I can then edit this post at a later time as needed.
Unless it is something that truly warrants a new thread, let's try to keep it in here. If we feel this needs to happen, we can keep this thread as a general theory thread, but make separate threads for specific models, like the new ones (I suspect we will make one for the structure and one for the caster at the bare minimum).
EDIT: Here's Week 1 of the CID, you can find a link to the PDF on either page 2 or 3.
Hello everyone and welcome to the Exemplar Interdiction CID! Below you will find the rules for the new models coming as well as the changes for legacy models. Please note the "Things to test" section is still there. These are guidelines for some questions we may ask you during the CID. They are not the only things that should or can be tested, they are simply there to start the conversation.
Please test the rules listed below:
High Exemplar Cyrenia: Cyrenia is a battle field commander of Idrian decent. Based on her rank of High Exemplar, she should excelle in battlefield command and inspiration of her troops. She should be focused on defensive tactical game play. Her feat, Vigilance of the Faithful should allow the army to react to oncoming attacks and is themed around both tactical acumen and divine intervention. Her Battle Plans should further reinforce these ideas. She is not a front line fighter herself but certainly should not be a weak combatant.
Things to test: Cyrenia brings a variety of defensive options. When combined are these options too much for opposing players to overcome? Is her utility overwhelming for the player? Does she support Exemplar models well?
Exemplar Warder: An exemplar body guard, the Warder is a solid defensive unit that is not afraid to step in front of oncoming fire or stand in front of his superiors and sacrifice himself for the cause. The Warder is a combatant and should not be passive on the field. The Warder should help some of the front-line casters in protectorate survive and remain relevant throughout the game with his combat abilities.
Things to test: Does the Warder provide too much of a defensive bonus, especially with casters like Reznik 1 or 2, Kreoss 2 or 3? Does the Warder contribute to the fight in the late game in a meaningful way. Do you find the Warder a valuable addition to your army?
Hand of Silence: Hand of Silence is a Reclaimer on a horse. Guiding spirits to Menoth is the primary function of the Hand of Silence. He should be a reasonable combat model while also fulfilling a powerful but niche support role. This is shown through Direct Spirits, Grave Resonace, Soul-Powered, and Strength of Death.
Things to test: Does the Hand of Silence create overly-powerful interactions with other models that collect souls. Is his melee damage too high? Too low? Do you find he is removed from the table too easily?
Exemplar Cinerator Officer: The Cinerator Officer brings a plethora of utility options to the Cinerators. Through his Shield Wall order, the Cinerator can become a very durable multi-would unit. Combined with the other defensive abiltiies of the protectorate arsenal this unit can become very difficult to dislodge from scenario zones. With Litany of Fire the unit picks up the ability to remove enemy upkeep spells. Take Down is useful ability that brings a remove from play option to the Exemplar forces.
Things to test: The Cinerator Officer offers a lot of new options to the unit. Are these options useful? Do you see them covering weaknesses of the unit or army?
Shrine of the Lawgiver: The Shrine brings a soul mechanic to Exemplar Interdiction. As the faithful are struck down, more are inspired to join the cause. Returning models to play is an important aspect of the Shrine of the Lawgiver. Path of Urcaen brings additional utility and a unique effect to the army. Please note the Forward Deployment rule - The Trencher Blockhouse will be updated to reflect this change.
Things to test: Can the Shrine contribute to the fight in a meaningful fashion? Does the Shrine collect a reasonable amount of souls? Is how the Shrine returns models to play too strong?
Legacy Models:
Grand Exemplar Kreoss: We have bumped Grand Exemplar Kreoss up to MAT and CMD for the start of this CID. We would like to hear feedback and battle reports about his current shortcomings before we continue to work on this Warcaster.
MAT 8.
CMD 10.
Harbinger of Menoth: We feel that the Harbinger's feat could use a little bump. Upping her CMD to 12 not only increases her feat area of effect but also makes Martyrdom and Awe a little more potent on the table. We also feel that she was lacking a little bit in the Warjack Points catagory. These two bumps should hopefully see her in more lists.
Warjack Points 28.
CMD 12.
Devout: This is the change from the Journeyman CID.
Change the text of Spell Barrier to the following:
Spell Barrier - While this model is B2B with its battlegroup controller, its battlegroup controller cannot be targeted by enemy spells.
Fire of Salvation: Increasing Fire of Salvation's MAT should make it feel a little more special while also increasing consistency on the table.
MAT 8.
Indictor: We feel the Indictor is close to where it wants to be. A slight point drop and a larger area of effect should help this model fulfill its intended role.
Cost 14.
Change the text of Consecration to the following:
Consecration - While within 8˝ of this model, enemy models cannot cast, channel, or upkeep spells.
Judicator: The Judicator has received quite aggressive changes. SP 10, a slight points drop, and a rather sizable increase in power of the Reliquary rule should see this model back in lists and on the table.
Cost 35.
Increase the RNG of Flamethrowers to SP 10.
Change the text of Reliquary to:
Reliquary - This model gains an additional die on attack and damage rolls. Discard the lowest die of each roll. While its S system is disabled, this model loses the benefits of Reliquary.
Purifier: The Purifier is currently out shined by the Dervish. We hope by adding a little utility to this model we can make it a home. Ashen Veil seemed the perfect spot to do this.
Gain Ashen Veil:
Ashen Veil - This model has concealment. Living enemy models without Immunity: Fire XICONX suffer –2 to attack rolls while within 2˝ of this model.
Exemplar Bastions: Bastions were not performing at the level we intended. Making them a significantly cheaper option will allow them to see time on the table.
Cost 8/13.
CMD 8.
Exemplar Cinerators: Cinerators are picking up a unit attachment during this CID. We want to see how that interacts with them before we make any further changes than a slight point decrease.
Cost 9/15.
CMD 8.
Exemplar Errants & Exemplar Errant Officer & Standard: Adding pathfinder to the unit allows us to modify Elias Gade's role in the army. Removing Assault, a rule which was a little awkward on Exemplar Errants, and returning Quick Work from the previous edition should up the power level of this unit rather substantially.
Gain Pathfinder XICONX.
Change the second line of Purity to the following:
Enemy upkeep spells and animi on this unit immediately expire.
Cut Tactics: Assault XICONX.
Gain Tactics: Quick Work:
Tactics: Quick Work - Models in this unit gain Quick Work. (When a model with Quick Work destroys one or more enemy models with a melee attack during its Combat Action, immediately after the attack is resolved the model with Quick Work can make one basic ranged attack.)
Exemplar Bastion Seneschal: The Seneschal brings powerful effects for its unit, but we would like to see a little more variety out of it. A slight point drop and a rather aggressive new Warjack Drive will hopefully excite players into considering this model.
Cost 5.
Cut Drive: Blessings of Iron.
Add Drive: Rhythm of Steel:
Drive: Rhythm of Steel - While in this model’s command range, a warjack under its control gains Flank [Bastion]. (When a model with Flank [Bastion] makes a melee attack against an enemy model in the melee range of a friendly Bastion model, the model with Flank gains +2 to attack rolls and gains an additional damage die.)
Exemplar Errant Seneschal: This model has been standardized with the unit it is themed with.
Cut Assault XICONX.
Gain Pathfinder XICONX.
Gain Quick Work:
Quick Work - When this model destroys one or more enemy models with a melee attack during its Combat Action, immediately after that attack is resolved this model can make one basic ranged attack.
Exemplar Warder Elias Gade: Elias has seen a major support upgrade. On early turns before he is committing to battle he can now Desperate Pace small or medium based exemplar to help them move around the field. He has also been standardized with other errants.
Cut Assault XICONX.
Add Desperate Pace [small- or medium-based Exemplar]:
Desperate Pace [small- or medium-based Exemplar] (★Action) - RNG CMD. Target friendly small- or medium-based Exemplar unit. If the unit is in range, small- or medium-based Exemplar models in the unit gain +2˝ movement during their Normal Movement this turn.
Cut Leadership [Exemplar Errants].
Gain Quick Work:
Quick Work - When this model destroys one or more enemy models with a melee attack during its Combat Action, immediately after that attack is resolved this model can make one basic ranged attack.
High Exemplar Gravus: To help incentivize Gravus, we have lowered his cost to 8 and bumped his CMD up to 10.
CMD 10.
Cost 8.
Knights Exemplar Seneschal: This model is already doing quite well, but we felt a little bump in CMD will keep him in line with other similar models.
CMD 10.
Knights Exemplar, Knights Exemplar Officer, and Exemplar Vengers are also part of this CID. They currently do not have any changes.
Theme Forces:
We will be adding the Shrine of the Lawgiver to the allowed models of the following theme forces. Please note it is currently allowed and counts towards free points in Exemplar Interdiction because it is an exemplar model. We are also changing Guardians of the Temple to generate free points from it's inclusion. These three theme forces are NOT part of this CID cycle and we will NOT be accepting feedback on them.
Protectorate Theme Force: Creator’s Might
Add “Protectorate structures” to the Army Composition section.
Protectorate Theme Force: Faithful Masses
Add “Protectorate structures” to the Army Composition section.
Protectorate Theme Force: Guardians of the Temple
Add “Protectorate structures” to the Army Composition section.
Change the second benefit to the following:
For every full 20 points of Flameguard models/units and Protectorate structures in this army, you can add
one Flameguard command attachment or one small-based Protectorate solo to the army free of cost.
Free models do not count toward the total point value of Flameguard models/units in the army when
calculating this bonus.
Update 5/4/18: Note: Bastions got an agressive update, most everything else is clarification or quality of life changes.
Hello! Below you will find our first update of the CID! Please contnue to provide feedback on everything currently being tested, especially Kreoss 2.
Exemplar Bastions: This is a pretty aggressive change that we will be keeping a close eye on. Defensive Strike gives the unit a very interesting type of survivability but retains the unit's weakness to ranged attacks. This is a new direction to take them - when providing feedback please state if you prefer this version or the cheaper version of Bastions more.
Cost 9/15.
Gain Defensive Strike:
Defensive Strike - Once per turn, when an enemy model advances into and ends its movement in this model’s melee range, this model can immediately make one basic melee attack against it.
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & Honor Guard: Welcome to the Exemplar Order Mr. Rhoven.
Add “Exemplar” to the sub-header.
Cut the Exemplar special rule.
Hand of Silence: This is a clarification of a mistake in his original wording.
Grave Resonance reworked:
Grave Resonance - This model can spend a soul token at any time during its activation to give one friendly Faction warjack within 5˝ of it 1 focus point.
Shrine of the Lawgiver: This is a clarification on a mistake in its original wording.
Path of Urcaen timing clarified:
Path of Urcaen - You can spend soul tokens on this model at any time during its activation to use Path of Urcaen. For each soul token you spend, you can choose one friendly Faction model in this model’s command range to gain Ghostly for one turn. (A model with Ghostly can advance through terrain and obstacles without penalty and can advance through obstructions if it has enough movement to move completely past them. It cannot be targeted by free strikes.)
Protectorate Theme Force: Exemplar Interdiction: Adding Fire of Salvation and changing the unit type for Rhoven & Honor Guard both help smooth how the theme force builds its lists.
Add “Fire of Salvation” to the Army Composition section.
Remove “ Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & Honor Guard” from the Army Composition section.
