I am typically a Minions player, but am trying to pick up armies in other factions for fun games at random times. I know Cygnar is typically a Lightning-based, shooting-based faction, but how would you go about one that was more of a combined arms, no lightning-tech army? I'm thinking for 'casters Stryker 1 and Haley 1, but be interested in listening to other ideas. However, beyond that, I don't have much of an idea. This would definitely be a for fun, non-hardcore list, but up to 75 points would be fun. Maybe even two lists Thanks for any help!

Well, Darius can play jack heavy and doesn't necessarily need electro things.
Haley3 can also work very well with trenchers, and Caine 3 works well with things like Chargers and Cyclones.
It also depends if you consider Stormwall electro-themed (while he actually has just the pod and e-leaps on melee). If Stormwall is ok, both Stryker1 and Darius run him (even in pairs, but not necessarily) pretty well.
Caine2 can also work with about everything if you like the assassination and personal work.
In general, anyway, what works without electrical are either Jack casters or casters that work well with Trenchers. The only problem is that, at the moment, there is no theme for trenchers yet, and playing out of theme makes you play 10-15 points behind, so the ones that work better are Heavy Metal lists (Jakes2 can also be an option, if you don't mind the e-leap during feat).

Kraye is typically ambivalent towards lightning. I generally play him in heavy metal right now with a mix of range and melee (centurions, hunters, minutemen) which allows you to play into most opponents.

Kraye in heavy metal is a blast, the only storm themed things i take with him are a stormclad and arlan, neither are really taken for their electric based attacks. Sloan, darius, siege, caine(s), sturgis, Connie, stryker 1, and pretty much any haley can do well enough with little to no electric attacks.

Ok, I realize this is slightly thread-necromancy - but it's my thread :-)
I've been dinking around with this idea for the past month (or six weeks, however long it's been) - and finally settled on this list (though it is not melee based at all, things change):
Heavy Metal theme CaptainKara Sloan - BG: +28 - Defender - PC: 16 - Defender - PC: 16 - Defender - PC: 16 - Defender - PC: 16 Journeyman Warcaster - PC: 0 - Charger - PC: 9 - Charger - PC: 9 Lieutenant Allison Jakes - PC: 0 - Charger - PC: 9 - Charger - PC: 9 Captain Arlan Strangeways - PC: 0 Archduke Alain Runewood - PC: 0 Field Mechaniks (min) - PC: 3
The concept is simple - shoot you to pieces. After the first turn, when everything is getting into position, lots of boosted attacks will be going into the enemy. With guided fire, all Defenders hit DEF15 on average rolls. Boosting their damage gives them credible opportunities to take out opponent's systems. Each Charger gets boosted attack and damage rolls with one focus, so that's four boosted POW 12's. And with the Mechaniks and Strangeways, I can keep my 'jacks running at optimal levels. Runewood is there because he was free, and I didn't have anything else I could take.
And while it really is a ranged focused list, it's no slouch in melee. The Defenders have MAT7, P+S17 and immediately damage the cortex. Chargers aren't quite as good, but they really shouldn't be in melee ;-)
Any thoughts on the list? Advice?

conflictchamber.com/#b11b7C9E9G9A9vfMfMaj9k9u9f9f9U9VCygnar Army - 75 / 75 points (Stryker 1) Commander Coleman Stryker [+30] - Defender [16] - Ironclad [12] - Thorn [13] - Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker [4] Arcane Tempest Rifleman [4] Arcane Tempest Rifleman [4] Journeyman Warcaster [4] - Hunter [11] Ragman [4] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6] Trencher Infantry (max) [16] - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper [5] What about this? The list totally lacks lightning theme models, with some mercs. It is mainly concentrated on ranged games, and two warjacks will deal with hard targets in melee. Trencher Infantry will get Snipe and keep Cautious Advance. Arcane Shields on both heavies or Thorn, and Blur to the other or Stryker himself. Artilleries are need to hide behind of the heavies, and cast Earthquake to the enemy if you need for an accuracy fix.

I've had surprisingly little lightning in my lists lately. Here's my Stryker2 list.
Theme: Heavy Metal Lord Commander Stryker (+28) -Lancer 10 -Lancer 10 -Charger 9 -Charger 9 -Ironclad 12 -Ol' Rowdy 18 -Squire 0 Journeyman Warcaster 0 -Charger 9 Archduke Alain Runewood 0 Sword Knights 13 Sword Knights 13
Everyone in the meta kept confusing the sword knights with storm knights. Low-Lightning Cygnar works very well. Heavy Metal is a powerful theme, if you like lots of warjacks.

I personally would Drop Jakes and put her Chargers and 1 charger from Junior on Sloan. In order to maximise Guided Fire, Fire Group, her feat and True Sight it is better to run everything on her. Don't get too hung up on not being able to fuel every single jack fully, it is more important imho to get the most out of your casters battlegroup wide buffs

The only reason to play Kara Sloan and warjacks is so that the warjacks are in her battlegroup to benefit from her feat, Guided Fire, and Field Marshall Truesight. You have 36 points sunk into non-battlegroup models; why? If you drop the Mechaniks you have 39 points. Give the Journeyman warcaster a single Sentinel. Drop Allison Jakes. As was suggested by someone else, bring a Squire instead (100% better choice). With your remaining 31 points, you could bring two Hunters and a Minuteman in Kara's battlegroup. This list is much better: Heavy Metal theme
CaptainKara Sloan - BG: +28
-Squire - PC: 0 - Defender - PC: 16
- Defender - PC: 16
- Defender - PC: 16
- Defender - PC: 16
- Hunter - PC: 11 - Hunter - PC: 11 - Minuteman-PC: 9
Journeyman Warcaster - PC: 0
- Sentinel - PC: 98
Captain Arlan Strangeways - PC: 0
Archduke Alain Runewood - PC: 0

With feat, they have 3(Sloan)+2x2(Hunters)+3(Hurricane)+2(Artillery) anti armor shots on the feat turn, and among them 3 shots have significant damage with a Firefly. conflictchamber.com/#b11b9a9E9k9k7ifMfManaj9k9u9f9fbzCygnar Army - 75 / 75 points (Sloan 1) Captain Kara Sloan [+28] - Defender [16] - Hunter [11] - Hunter [11] - Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator [4] Arcane Tempest Rifleman [4] Arcane Tempest Rifleman [4] Captain Arlan Strangewayes [4] Journeyman Warcaster [4] - Hunter [11] Ragman [4] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6] Storm Strider [18] If you replace Hurricane by a Defender and put a Hunter on junior or take a Storm Strider(with CID modified) then you will have much more damage output as well.
