I'm fairly new to minions, I've been playing trolls since the start of mk3, but then a friend was selling a bunch of farrow infantry for super cheap, so decided to switch factions for a bit. Here's the list I've been playing:
Sturm and Drang -War hog -Road hog Meat thresher Lanyssa Max commandos Max brigands with warlord Slaughterhousers Slaughterhousers Razorback crew Razorback crew
This has been a blast to play, and it's actually been quite successful- I guess there aren't a lot of lists out there that have the volume of attacks to deal with so many pigs. On the other hand, I've only had about ten games with it, and haven't faced some of the lists that look like they might give this a huge headache (Nemo3 and Vlad rockets will probably just remove it, and heavy spam like Karchev or Gaspy3 will probably be too much for it to chew through).
My question though- what's the most effective infantry focussed Thornfall list you can come up with? What are the reasons it's so unpopular? (Unfortunately, I'm guessing this is mostly 'Will Work for Food is just plain better)
Thanks in advance!

Will Work for Food is generally better, sorry. There are a couple pieces at play in that. Historically, pig infantry is difficult to deliver and keep alive with the Def 12/Arm 14-15 stat line. Additionally, WWFF is a very focused theme that buffs beasts (Overtake, Speed) and rewards you for taking beasts with free points. Thornfall is a very unfocused theme in that it buffs beasts (Retaliatory) but rewards you for taking infantry (free points, Ambush). Typically in this game, the more focused at a task, the better something is. Also historically up until last December Thornfall was more limited on what solos could be taken (they added Lanyssa, Brun for example) and you could only get non-character Farrow solos for free (and scouts, razorbacks, etc.). In the 8 years that Pigs have existed, we're still waiting on those non-character Farrow solos... Alllll that being said, of course you can build in Thornfall. I do pretty regularly, most commonly with Helga and Midas. Valkyries were a big release that helps that theme out, they are very, very solid, and I highly recommend them. I always take Ambushers because I love Hambushing, but I only take them as a min unit in order to not overinvest. I have a video coming out this Friday using Helga (I think, I always get the scheduling wrong). Helga -Road Hog -Road Hog -Battle Boar Brun -Lug Meat Thresher Agata Gobber Chef Farrow Brigands (max) -Warlord Commandos (min) Valkyries I also need to get this out and testing: Midas -Targ -Gun Boar -Gun Boar -Gun Boar -Gun Boar -Splatter Boar Meat Thresher Farrow Brigands -Warlord Farrow Commandos (min) Valkyries Valkyries Razorback Crew Razorback Crew I think the Midas list needs more tweaking, but there are some examples! I did run a helga list for a while that worked pretty well for me and had a lot of problems that required answers
Thornfall THeme
Helga Targ Gun Boar Gun Boar Splatter Boar Splatter Boar Efaarit Scout Efaarit Scout Gobber Chef Razorback Crew Razorback Crew Slaughter Housers Slaughter Housers Brigands + UA Brigands + UA
as you can see its a little two by two
general plan was to have half on each side shoot what i could with brigands and such and wait for them to send something in to clear them and then use slaughter housers as a late game push
because of lack of opponent i have not got a huge amount of SR17 games with it but it has a lot of contesting pieces and lots of guns its issues is that it does not crack high armour well which is why my pair was with carver who could

Last year I run the following a couple of times:
Carver 2 War Hogs Razor Boars
2x min Brigands with UA 2x Slaughterhousers Rorsh and Brine Hutchuk
It was quite nice. These days I will use a similar list with Sturm and Drang

I find that the Deceleration jump from ARM 14 to ARM 16 for most Farrow infantry is not as significant as it is for Solos (Brigand survivability comes from Dig In). Thus I tend to take Solos and a Meat Thresher with Sturm & Drang rather than full infantry lists. I may change my mind as I get to play more Valkyries, though.
A while back, I ran Midas with a ton of ranged and max + min Brigands, max Commandos, and Bone Grinders. It worked quite well. Gun Boars, Efaarit Scouts and Razorbacks do significant damage if you can apply Calamity. Even Brigand shots hurt enemy Heavies if you can stack Prey and Calamity.
I played it into Stryker1 at a tournament. Hex Blast + Calamity meant the Stormwall was incredibly reluctant to come forward, giving me a CP lead. At the same event, I also faced Karchev spam and managed to make him sweat. If I had applied Calamity rather than Battle Lust, I should have won. Unfortunately, I have been forced to focus on my painted faction lately (Retribution) so I am still waiting for a rematch. I'm sure you can build just as effectively in Will Work for Food with Valkyries but I still intend to revive the list at some point to see how it fares in the current meta (if for no other reason than to make my opponent wonder if I will choose the Heavy spam list or the infantry spam list).

Cheers for the lists guys, these look awesome. A lot of lists seem to focus on multiple lights rather than heavies. Do you ever come into problems with armour with these? Or is it just a case of ‘don’t drop into arm spam’?
(Also, thanks for the replies- the minions section of the forum is absolutely loaded with great content, huge thanks to all of you regular contributors!)

The list I mentioned really struggle past ARM 18 because it could not crack it which meant cryx was okay for the most part but khador and cygnar it was almost a no go apart from assassination play which is always risky

I've always run Midas as my infantry-heavy Warlock, which basically renders any level of armour irrelevant. If you're running infantry heavy then the ranged Warbeasts primarily exist as a means to eliminate the biggest threats to your infantry early, so they can be pillow-fisted so long as they can pressure your opponent and drop their best anti-infantry tools.

Had a game yesterday with the following list conflictchamber.com/#cb201b_-09bZfy1d0LfC4k7F4i0U0Ofl0S0SMinion Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Thornfall Alliance (Sturm 1 & Drang 1) Sturm & Drang [+28] - Battle Boar [7] - Road Hog [16] - War Hog [15] Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)] Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress [0(4)] Rorsh [15] Saxon Orrik [4] Farrow Bone Grinders (min) [5] Farrow Brigands (max) [15] - Farrow Brigand Warlord [4] Farrow Slaughterhousers [11] Farrow Slaughterhousers [11] Played against Madrak1 double Champions max fenns which is a pretty bad matchup and won on assassination. Though the player is way less experienced then I am. Against a similarly experienced opponent I would have lost. Nevertheless, the list was fun to play and is one of those Farrow Infantry Lists I would run a second time. Things I learned yesterday: With all those new shiny Gatormen toys which are available Thornfall Alliance seems to be even worse. There is just not enough strong support in Thornfall Alliance and the units themselves are rather lackluster / to expensive for what they offer. Going second against super jamming Fennblades stinks. He literally shove me out of Scenario. I had an advantage on one flank, though I doubt it would have been enough to win the game. Because the opponent is less experienced, we decided to not use death clock, otherwise I should have clocked him, I´m sure.

I guess thr positive aspect of this is that when thorn fall goes through Cid we're going to get new toys.
