He looks good, and I like the pose you've picked; shows off the model much better than any pictures of it I've seen so far.

Thanks. And we certainly agree on the pose. It's such a cool model. Hiding itself behind that giant shield seemed a shame. And I think the guns-a-blazin' pose works okay, too.

Here's an update of the mostly-done, pelt-clad Demo Corps. Not the best pics. There's still quite a bit of black primer showing but I am pleased so far. What I've tried for the first time because of these guys: - Fur pelt sculpting with Green stuff, after watching various vids - Fur painting and washing, "Rainbow" style black-->brown-->tan - Shadowing red armor with red and brown inks - Painting glow hammers! - Painting dark ice bases Thanks for viewing the AC Project progress!

They look really good. The glow on those hammers is really nice!

Thanks, man. Honestly, fur sculpting videos often didn't show the effect I was looking for but this one does show different methods. (I ended up just taking a bb-sized ball of GS and pressing on the shoulder armor, then I cut lines and inverted triangles in the flattened GS with an Exacto knife.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=28CjGEAfcRgThis one pointed out that you can always blob a bit more on top of previously sculpted fur for layering... www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrXtiIlzVgEThere are also helpful fur bits I used for reference here... maxmini.eu/medium-fur-pelts-bits---- For painting, I found this effect the best. It's not just a base coat + inking... www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtYFoY7Z700

I'm sad that with school approaching fast, I always greatly reduce my hobby time but here's an update for now... I reposed Drago - because I've not seen anyone do that yet - and added a viking-esque drinking horn to his belt (hard to see) and an extra warjack head strapped to his back. I'm leaving his head separate for painting due to his pose; I may even use a helmeted one that I have on my painting table. Looking at the pics, I need to lighten and de-saturate those very blue bases. I'm having an internal struggle between "art" and "realism".

Do you*really* need to soften those bases? They are lovely as they are, but the contrast they make with the red thing under them may influence that.
Did you buy or make the shatter base? If you made it, how did you do it?

Well, the bases on Dragos and Sorscha were painted without the blue-grey use on the Demo Corps, above. Its all straight, vivid blue paints. They're punchy but don't match exactly and look "artificial". Of course gunning for realism is funny when painting a hammer-wielding battle armor dude and an ice witch! They look cool enough (pun not intended) that I'll wait after painting the figures themselves to reassess.
Good observation on that reddish game mat affecting perception. I'll also see how the finished models look on other surfaces.
Dragos' base was bought, same as the Demo Corps, with added stir rod crystals like their leader. Sorscha is blue foam cut with a hot wire cutter with added thin, surface plastic (packaging material) I scrounged, broke apart and glued individually. The plastic adds strength to wimpy foam, from which she otherwise might break away. You can get the idea in the pics above.

Why the hell not? It's always ice to sprinkle in a few puns. Some people might call you a special snowflake, but you don't need to get hot under the collar about that! Just stay frosty and tell them to chill out. And hey, if they give you the cold shoulder for that, forget them and come hang with us cool kids.

But we'd better freeze this discussion before the thread snowballs into a pun-fest. Got to get back to my glacial painting pace...

As I was slowly working on Sorscha and Dragos this past weekend, a fit of inspiration overtook me and I decided to start a scratch-built / kit-bashed Siege (Assault) Chariot. I had the horses and axles from an old Gun Carriage, so I started scrounging for household items, from which this might take shape. The goal is not to duplicate but to create something new and similar. Stay tuned! Bush-league building materials: - Plastic Easter eggs - Floor tile samples (free) from Home Depot / Lowes - Specialty LEGO - Food packaing - Blue foam - Jewelry bits - Electronic bits harvested from circuit boards - Plastic gems (as rivets) - Metal tubing - Ink pen parts - Tiny screws (dollar store repair kit)
