I once thought about doing my (future) MoW army in a theme similar to 40k's "Space Wolves", basically vikings in power armor. So furs, beards, runes, braids and tattoos everywhere. No MoW helmets, either, just angry bearded guys yelling at you. I freaking LOVE that whole idea! Please give it a go; I'd love to see it. (In fact, I'm wondering how else to Viking-up my own Demo dude mans.)

So, just finished something. I wasn't happy with the little chunks of turquoise-stained blue foam and snow on my Shock trooper bases, so I went for a "dark ice" effect for the Demo Corps. Dedicated painting this time. There are MANY images of ice bases and tutorials online, so I took what I liked and came up with these. They're Epicast USA bases - don't even recall where I got 'em. GenCon? Anyway, they're very dark - which doesn't match those of my Shockies - but I like the contrast, so I'm going with them. Cheers guys.

I love these conversion, looking great. Man I want a bombardier bombshell too... I'm painting a brand new Armoured Corps force with a paint scheme stolen from 40k Iron Warriors. This thread is inspiring enough that I might post my progress too.

Love the look of the dark ice bases! Those are the exact ones I was looking into! Lol

Oh man. Perfect. I think I now need a second unit of something, just to replace the helmeted heads with those badass ones (and I usually prefer helmets b/c I hate painting eyes).

I made some progress on the conversions: Some overhead twisting poses, leaning forward, etc. I'm going for dynamism. Most pics of MoW I've seen just look so static. I did have to add some hoses and pistons to waists when I twist their upper torsos. (I also discovered a little trick to swing their butt plate outward a bit.) One example is this dude, that I had to have (or at least approximate)... So here's the progress, before I add fur...

Can we get pics of those conversions from other angles so we can steal learn what you did to pose them?
Asking for a friend... and... you know... for science.

Lovely! There are some aftermarket Space Wolves fur tabards and other hanging things. I looked at some of them when you said your green stuff techniques are fairly basic. They would probably take a lot of manipulation to make them fit.
The GS route is probably the easiest way to go. A few tips that might help: let the GS “rest” for about 10-15 minutes after you mix it up, use an exacto blade for sculpting the fine fur, use needle pointed tweezers to pinch and lift up sections of fur, and get some KY jelly for your tools. It sounds really bizarre to use KY but it stays on the tools longer than water and washes off with water. A lot of people recommend Vaseline but it’s oil based and is more difficult to clean off of the model. If you don’t get ALL of the Vaseline off of the model, bad things happen when you try to apply paint.

Good advice! Luckily I have done GS fur on two models - but just collars - so I'll heed your suggestions. I have an extra shoulder plate from one I replaced on the Bombshell, so I'm going to practice on that. I may even put a thin coat of lubricant on it and use it as a shaping platform, then move the (clean) cured GS fur onto each crewman. I'd hate to screw up the progress so far. Fallenexile... here's a collage... for science. ...mostly it's just rotated torsos and shoulders like in the (poor) Photoshop sketch I did of the Shocktrooper leader. Also balls of GS and superglue gel at the waist and shoulders, and pins in the "backswing" guy. His wrist is an L-shaped pin under the green stuff to laterally flex his pronated forearm into the right position. (I'm cleaning up the area with a dremmel today.)

Very nice. I've just spent the day watching videos on GS sculpting and planning further on my own Khador MoW force... of which I own exactly 1 model, a Sorscha3 converted from S1 and the Bombshell, so I have a LONG way to go there...
And I'm already considering abandoning my Rhulic project to start this one. So... thanks for that.

That's a handy template and concept! I'll probably try press-molding some fur from various sources in the near future. I just attempted to sculpt "like I had a pair" and prepped these Dragos-ified troopers for priming. I'll do what I can with paint to improve them. One shoulder pelt hangs down quite far and one has an attempt at a wolf forearm shape, on which I'll probably add tiny claws.

Okay, here's the Suppression Tanker tangent I went on, whilst also starting to paint the "furry" Demo Corps. The camera flash is harsh but you can get the gist of how I'm trying to push contrast more than in the past.
