Ok, the wife says the thin wire pull cord I'm dry-fitting IS selling the effect. Looking at real life mowers, there's not much build up around the exit point of the pull cord nub but I think just a tiny T-shape on all the chainsaws (maybe one or two with a slightly loose dangly cord attached) will help. Edit: Here are some of the little conversions. The buildup where the cord meets the chainsaw looks too long in these closeups but I think is okay in real life.

So, tonight instead of finishing the metals, cinematics, and basing these bad boys (debating how to do the latter), I snapped some pics on the back patio. I'm pretty pleased. Thanks, guys for the suggestions. And a shot with their brothers in arms...

They look great! I really like how much contrast you've created with the highlighting and agressive shading, it really makes them pop.

What are these cinematics that you talk about magnetizing? They sound interesting.

What are these cinematics that you talk about magnetizing? They sound interesting. The explosions coming from two of his Shocktrooper shields and one of his Bombardier's canons are what are called 'cinematics'. Things that make the model looks like it's actually in motion/shooting/billowing smoke.

I may have to try to figure out how to incorporate those in my own work, although trollbloods don't use all that many guns...

Not to get too off topic in Eathotlead's forum, here, but the pyro troll and dire blitzer can both make pretty good use of cinematics.

Good call. Of just a handful of trolls in my hobby room, I have both of those - partly for that reason. I'm really a bit of a cinematic enthusiast. Muzzle flashes, flying shells and canisters, flames, explosions and black clouds (black spray painted green foliage) on bases, a smoldering pipe, etc. I have yet to do the exhaust clouds on 'jacks but I did snag some of those plumes from Amorcast.
The link in my sig goes to a collection of Rhulfolk where I went pretty nuts on cinematic effects and OSL. A more recent thing for me is to magnetize them and move them around various models or just not worry about them snapping off or fitting in carry bag foam.

Right now he takes a space the size of a heavy for safety.

Here's a quick snap of the painted cinematics on the Bombardier and Shockies. Because they're so small and light, only one magnet is necessary. The flames just have a bit of metal on them to stick. I'll probably ad object source lighting later; I like doing it and it really sells the effect. You can also see the clear-cut bases on some of these dudes. Cheers.

I think they look great! I do have something I am going to throw at the wall and see if it sticks. I think the Bombardier’s chainsaws would look awesome if the paint was scratched off in places like they have been heavily used.

Thanks - and yep, I totally get it, Tapecrawler. I've been planning highlighted thin line scratches and even a shallow hole or two - partly to mask imperfections in the plastic. (As a curmudgeon, I still prefer metal.) The chainsaws seem an especially good target.
There's a saying that a model (or canvas) is never "finished", just "abandoned"... that's the decision point I'm approaching with the Bombardiers. I agree, however, it would look cool.

A little tangent from the OP list will be a Suppression Tanker with some cinematic gun fire, as I start to build some converted Demo Corps. I'd like to add GS fur on their right shoulders similar to Dragos. (I'm not good with green stuff!) Bad P-Shop workup to flesh out the concept...

I once thought about doing my (future) MoW army in a theme similar to 40k's "Space Wolves", basically vikings in power armor. So furs, beards, runes, braids and tattoos everywhere. No MoW helmets, either, just angry bearded guys yelling at you.

That’s an amazing concept, the fur really ties the models and bases together. You may want to try messing around with the foam that comes in the blister packs, and cut those into little pads, and fray the ends. That will give it a fur feel to it, and is easier to work with than greenstuff.
