Thanks! With the mechanik officers about done (just painting up the Bombshell's beer), I've been toying with further ideas for the current target: The full unit of Shockies + Officer. Got my bits order from PP (who threw in a medium base for free, recognizing I wanted to use the Shocktrooper bits as a full model) and I'm converting it into a Kozlov-style pose, after some P-Shop mouse sketching. (Note to self - drawing with a computer mouse leads to a mess.) I'm using VMC Cav Brown with a drop of extra VMC flat red, plus Citadel Tuskgor Fur for basic highlights. Only models with an in-game ice effect will get white accents, as seen in the screen shot above. (Not my models on screen... it's just the way I visualize color schemes.)

Alrighty, here's some shots of what's actively getting converted: Bombshell beer mug greenstuff is dry and Officer got a tank to fuel that wicked ice axe... And the troopers are getting some color... Another glorious day in the corps! Every meal’s a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I love the corps!

"I like that beer mug Painted the mugs like glass rather than metal, which would've been the safer approach. Looks okay. I lack he patience to keep fiddling with them.
"Paint like you've got a pair", I guess.
In all honesty, the crop and zoom here makes them look better than they truly are. Still, I'm not unhappy.

The converted Shock Troopers and officer are STILL getting paint. I hope to post them next weekend. For now, here's the experimental results I got with borax crystals - seeking a Crit Freeze / Shatter effect for the bases of the next-up Demo Corps. The crystals formed a bit too heavily, which I couldn't see well under water. In retrospect, I should've pulled the shield out at the 3-5 hour mark - or maybe even painted-on the solution. (Maybe that's next.) I'll keep this one and add a tad of turquoise ink. Actually, I think I'll try this technique next on a war beast arm stump! (muahaha)

Those crystals actually look really good, even if they're not right for the intended use they would be great for bases.

They do look pretty cool. (Heh.) Yeah, I'll put them on a base somehow. They took the diluted turquoise ink well (good) but the gloss coat smoothed them out just a little (not quite as crystalline maybe). Anyway, work is rough atm but I want to evidence a little progress with the Shock Troopers...

Lots of fun in this thread. Been digging through the different paint blogs here since deciding to get back in to the game and this is some of the most fun conversion and solid painting to back it all up.

Thanks, man! I'm always toying with new mods and techniques. These Shocktroopers are some of the most dynamic I've seen online (and I've actively looked). Maybe they're not meant to be super agile, but I wanted some action in my little interpretation of these bad boys.
PS I don't think I'll do much more blue foam basing in the future. Too soft, prone to damage from aerosol sprays, and a bit of a hassle when mounting the figure.

Okay, so progress has been made in the Armored Corps Project. Here's a few shots of new, partly-reposed Bombardiers. I need an idea on what to put in the leader's extended arm. Simply a severed head? A beast or 'jack limb? Something that's been sawed off lol. PS I added some magnetized cinematics on a few Shock Trooper shields and soon the chain blade cannons. Thanks for viewing!

Hmm, what if his arm is extended because he's pull-starting his chainsaw? Just model a cable from his hand to the weapon body.

I think it will help sell it if, whatever you use for a handle, you add to the other model's weapons in the same place. Maybe build up the area where the cable comes out to make sure it looks like it belongs.
