They are literally, statistically better than any other medium infantry except perhaps the Champions, and they get to cost less points whilst doing it. If you consider these guys to be fair, then frankly all other medium infantry is terrible by comparison. Well, my Bastions and Cinerators are terrible, but I don't think anyone's arguing that point. An Ignited Temple Flameguard charging has a 43% chance to kill one. It has a 2% chance to kill a Shield Walled Shocktrooper. And DEF 14 ARM 18 Champions with Sanguine Bond? Forget about it. They're harder to kill natively via shooting than most medium bases, but hardly impossible. They have limited threat ranges, no Pathfinder, and require a charge to deal respectable damage. As a Protectorate player I have almost zero ability to shoot them off the board (only non-Fire boostable guns are Inaccurate) and I'm still not worried about them. I am way more scared of Champions or Shocktroopers.

Well in response to the initial question I plan to first just start by reading all of the cards and trying to make what I would consider to be good or interesting lists. My process for the CID is going to be... 1.) Just try some lists I think look interesting to get a feel for the faction 2.) Probably during the second week try to intentionally come up with broken lists with the revised models now that I have an idea of how the army works and potential over performing models. 3.) Towards the end of the cycle I tend to notice that people are testing things less or that some models are less tested so I'll try to design a list that includes these models. The idea is to see if they have a home or could use a little help to see table time.

But those incendiary sprays have such good synergy with crucible guard immune models Are they still good when immune just means -1 dice? I haven't tried it, but it feels like no. As for the Assault Troopers, you also have to factor in buffs. What I like about the faction is that it seems most of the defensive tech is native on the unit, and "buffs" come mostly in the form of enemy debuffs. Trollblood Champions take buffs like teenage athletes at a buffet. I think the cost is pretty appropriate for a unit that 1.) only has 5 guys 2.) Straight loses in melee to basically any melee unit 3.) is essentially WYSIWYG when it comes to defensive tech.

I intend to try to see if my crazy Mckay + crucible infantry idea is decent enough to run, or too shitty.
That idea for those that haven't read my post about Mckay in the CG lists thread is this:
Return fire on McKay. opponent either shoots her, in which case she uses the Accelerant (oil) shot which has a round duration, or they don't, in which case, huzzah, your caster isn't getting shot. Kind of a win/win for 1 focus.
Then on your turn identify if you want to shoot another accelerant for maximum oil coverage, or use your fire blossom shot and the fire attacks on CGI to dole out some massive damage vias boosted damage shots, hopefully with a debuff or two in place.

This seems like some of the ideas I saw people looking at with Durgen but strictly better. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
