Hiya,
Looking at trialling Wurmwood with the bones theme list. A few questions:
* I'm tempted to run a bunch of woldwardens (proxying for now) to geomancy Stranglehold. Is this a valid strat? * Also tempted to not have a supply of souls, is this very detrimental? Would the bellows crew/river raiders be an appropriate compromise?
I've searched through the forums a bit, and will go through tourney lists, but how do people find WW with geomancy spam?

I have been on the receiving end of said list (bellows as souls) and it has some issues cracking armor, but it is a damn solid list, that defines negative play experience in new ways for a lot of opponents.

Nice! thanks for the feedback How many geomancy wolds did you face?
Also, Sentry stones or no sentry stones?

I'd really recommend at least 1 Sentry Stone, mostly for Hellmouth shenanigans, and at least a unit of 6 Bonegrinders. It means you can get 10 Fury for turns 2 and 3 reliably (having 3 souls for turn 2 is often super important when going 2nd) and lets you supplement your souls otherwise.
Personally I like 2+ Geomancers as a minimum. I also really rate Puppet Master with him and enjoy playing him with Eilish for that reason.
The 2 WW lists I'm messing with just now are:
Wurmwood -3 Wardens -4 Wyrds 6 Bonegrinders Sentry Stone 6 Shifting Stones Eilish Wayfarer 2 Shapers 75
Wurmwood -2 Guardians -2 Wardens -2 Wyrds 6 Bonegrinders Sentry Stone 6 Shifting Stones Eilish Wayfarer 2 Shapers 75
First one is less hitty, more shooty, 2nd one less shooty, more hitty.

Awesome! Thanks heaps!
Do you feel the single Wayfarer is enough? Do you find yourself wishing you had a second?
What about taking the UAs with the shifting stones?

Often yes, but I like Eilish way too much. Puppet Master is really really valuable considering how many key points of failure hinge on single rolls with Wurmwood (read: missing hellmouth, missing or bouncing off armour with Stranglehold). Plus, Wurmwood is really good at setting up stones with his feat, which often means that you're not charging and can in fact go further with Teleport & sneaky Hellmouth pulls for about 14" or so of threat.
Also, because you usually set stones up with your feat I really don't rate the UA. I don't think that model is nearly as bad as people make it out to be, but you're completely safe anyway in your feat, and it's hard to reliably prowl otherwise.

List was Megalith and 3 Wardens and it is painful to play against that if you are beast/jack heavy as you just do not get play...

Could always run him in Wild Hunt, gets your souls and you can still run wold wardens...theme benefits not quite as strong but still could be interesting

One little trick that makes a huge difference against some specific matchups, If you take a Mist Speaker as your minion solo, you can give eyeless sight to Cassius so he can ignore stealth and arc wurmwoods spells behind peoples cloud walls. It's really mean the first time you hellmouth all the trenchers and its extra mean when you use it on a woldwyrd and comfortably shoot 2 gremlin swarms off the table.

You have a bit of this incorrect. Eyeless sight on the channeler (cassius) only matters for seeing through clouds, the spellcaster having eyeless sight is what matters for stealth and concealment. And wurmwood already has native eyeless sight.

And wurmwood already has native eyeless sight. Good catch! So wurmwood ignores stealth concealment and cover with his arc’d spells anyway with native eyeless sight, but having the mist speaker give eyeless sight to Cassius does let you see through the cloud walls. It’s still really good on wyrds also though

I thought i would update you all on how i went! Played: Wurmwood WoldGuardian WoldWarden WoldWarden WoldWarden WoldWarden WoldWatcher Stoneshaper Stoneshaper Wayfarer Gallows Grove Gallows Grove Shifting Stones and CA Shifting Stones Min Bonegrinders Sentry Stones Opponent was JagaJaga with Dracodile, Rorsh and Brine, Dahlia and snek, turtle that shoots, Alten Ashley, Targ + others I lost on being half an inch too close to Brine, and then to clock (Opponent let me rejig things). I lost the gallows groves and the sentry stone early to shooting (it was my first day) Things i learnt: * Fury 7 is still not enough to do every i want * UA for shifting stones is indeed wasted * My question of do i really want souls to feed the tree? The answer is a resounding YES (will max out that unit) * The tree upkeep will not guarantee WWs safety * Strangleholds are all well and good but i need to move up aggressively while i do it, the dracodile, snake and turtle could all sac movement and shoot. Targ also gave Draco another shot * Should just run up turn 1 (i went second) instead of trying to stranglehold something * Woldwatcher was a waste i guess? A wyrd would have been so much better * Tree movement shenanigans are critical and hard * I bunched up too much early on, need to spread deployment * Prowl does not guarantee safety if there is no concealment That all being said, i like the list! Can be shutdown by anti magic tech, but i think that is fairly rare?

Protectorate is about the worst of the spell hate you’ll see, barring some specific niche casters.

Thanks maplewhisky! What about models like Ruin and Mulg? If I see them should i drop a different list?
