I have a smattering of minions I have picked up and enjoy messing around with them from time to time, but I can never figure out how to make the slaughterhousers do anything except die in a fire. How do you guys run them?

They look like second line infantry. They really only make contact with the enemy if they're third or fourth line infantry. I can usually deliver three or four of them if they're behind a bucketload of Brigands and Bone Grinders, though I'm hoping sprinkling in some Valkyries too will make getting them into melee more likely. ...except that the points I cut to get Valkyries into the list were my units of Slaughterhousers

Havnt played slaughterhousers since mrk2 unfortunatly. As has been stated already they just die far to easily, meanwhile Brigands come along with native pathfinder and added prey; Valk enter the frey with some impressive body blocking, and even commandos find their niche in ambushing or running along side the meat thresher.
Maybe we will see them reworked in a CID cyle. Till then they are best ran as second line infantry, a unit or two of Valks would protect delivery but that doesnt seem worth the points.

They are alright with Midas I feel. As long as you don't face a gunline. Or really anything that has some amount of shooting. They hit like a ton of bricks when they do hit though.
I really feel they should have +2ARM or 5 boxes or something though, all that armor they wear needs to be represented in some way.

Well, I think the presence of shooty lists is somewhat overestimated. IMO Shooty lists suffer badly in certain szenarios that´s why I normally don´t see them even in casual play (which always was / is the terrain for shooty armies). That being said, last year I run the following a couple of times:
Carver 2 War Hogs Razor Boars OR Battle Boar
2 min Brigands with UA 2 Slaughterhousers Rorsh and Brine Some solo of taste (run in Farrow Theme)
This army was lots of fun, deleting a lot of opponents. I even had game against Haley2 once. Khador jack spam got negated by it, Skorne and Trollbloods beast heavy as well.
Yes, shooting is the death for slaughterhousers, but all of our infantry suffer by shooting. There is no exception. Therefore: try them and have some fun.
In a couple of days I´m going to run
Midas 4 shooty light beasts 2 min Brigands / UA 2 Slaughterhousers 2 Valkyries solos of taste.

Ran a list with salughterhousera just yesterday, a shoutout to a user of the facebook minions group. I actually enjoyed this list and may fine tune it some more.
War Room Army
Minions - New Army
Theme: The Thornfall Alliance 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Sturm & Drang - WB: +28 - Battle Boar - PC: 7 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7) - Battle Boar - PC: 7 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7) - Battle Boar - PC: 7 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7) - Battle Boar - PC: 7 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7)
Meat Thresher - PC: 16
Efaarit Scouts - PC: 0 Efaarit Scouts - PC: 0 Hutchuk, Ogrun Bounty Hunter - PC: 0 Swamp Gobber Chef - PC: 1
Farrow Slaughterhousers - Leader & 5 Grunts: 11 Farrow Slaughterhousers - Leader & 5 Grunts: 11 Farrow Slaughterhousers - Leader & 5 Grunts: 11 Farrow Commandos - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 Farrow Razorback Crew - Gunner & Grunt: 5 Farrow Bone Grinders - Leader & 3 Grunts: 5
THEME: The Thornfall Alliance ---
So the idea was simple, Polarity field on Thresher and get it up the field, have commandoes run behind it, two battle boars flanking that, another two battle boars further outtside that, fill gap with caster and slaugterhousers as required to protect them.
The scouts flank where needed, gobber is just there to contest and Hachuck ambushes for those sweet knockdown bombs on targets that stray to close.
Game was vs a Vlad3 cavalry list. My opponent ended up going first and ran a unit of Ulahs a little to far forward, one telekinesis to Thresher and a Turn up the heat later I had run over all but 4 models in the unit.

So, you killed one ulhan..? Sorry realised I misnamed the unit there. They where IronFang pikemen and all but 4 died, I did later manage to roll into some of the actual Ulahns... They dont die easy but average only 19 arm, cant complain with dice off 3
