Hello, so I'm jumping into grymkin to be my new competitive faction. I have some questions, and with the old forums death I feel a huge vacuum of resources to ask questions in, I hope you guys would share some opinions.
Some basics, What are the best lists- locks? Sounds like it's DM or nothing most times just due to the corpse tokens thing, and child and dreamer seem to be all that was picked at the wtc?
What role does the deathknell have? is it ever worth bringing two of them?
Any advice on playing smaller games? like 30ish points? is it worth bringing different lists at that level?

Quick disclaimer, I am not a Grymkin player, so here is some unsolicited advice
The Child and Heretic are the most straightforward casters, so I would recommended starting with them, The King of Nothing and the Wanderer appear to have a very high skill cap
Bump in the Night is just as good as Dark Menagerie, you just need to build the list right.
I would recommend getting the starter box (if you can find one), and then maybe another skin and moans and a Death Knell, the Heretic can run both themes very well so is a good jumping off point.
The Death knell provides a armour buff for your army, as well as powering up beasts with corpses before they go in

I concur that the Death Knell does feel like an essential part of the army. You want those corpse tokens in circulation, and it means that you get a shiny whenever your opponent kills something. Which is always nice. I also reccomend the Starter box, there's a lot of good stuff in there. Personally, I went for a Glimmer Imp, some Madcaps, and a Trapperkin as quick additionals. I'm afraid I can give no advice on "competitive", I'm in Grymkin for the lols and the gibbering madness

The WTC lists were limited by what was available at the time, and by what people had been able to practice with the most. There's no reason to have two Death Knells. One is great for some lists, but two wouldn't be an improvement. Bump is plenty viable, but tends toward high model counts. DM is pretty easy to build for if you are just getting into the faction. Check out the Druid's Dice thread for more detailed information. It's a good resource for Grymkin players.

Hello OP. I recommend you sign up for the Grymkin: The Wicked Harvest Facebook page and utilize the search function to no end. Countless questions have been asked in great detail there.
Purchasing two Army Boxes, The Child, an additional S&M, Death Knell, 2-3 Blisters of Crabbits, Glimmer Imp, & 1-2 Blisters of Casket Imps seems to be the staple purchases initially, and not much has changed IF you see yourself collecting the entire faction's FA.
As for warcasters, depending on where you get your information...really dictates which Warcasters will be advertised as better/great. I strongly recommend the Heretic & Child to begin with. They both offer amazing spells and Aracana for both theme lists. The Dreamer & Wanderer are also favorites among the masses, so keep that in mind. Although the Heretic/Child are staples and should not be overlooked.
The faction in general is very deceiving in regards to tools/strategies. On paper we look good/meh depending on what model your reading up on. As you layer things together the synergies amass and destruction ensues.
One thing ive found since leaving Cryx is that that the grass is greener on the other side (cryx seems better,) yet the key is finding the hidden stuff Grymkin offers that actually makes it better than others. The skill floor/ceiling on being competitive is higher than most (IMHO,) so expect on losing alot consistently before winning consistently.
Both themes are viable, and offer perks to win. I like to drop DM when dealing with Heavy Warjack/Beast Spams and so far BiTN has been most successful into Infantry lists/as a strategy to winning on scenario/by death clock.
Im fairly new so take these as pure opinion, but Grmykin is super fun. For me, as mentioned I feel Cryx is better..although Im beginning to think they are better for my Meta, and NOT overall better as a faction. Im happily painting my Grymkin right now and wont give up on them..but it is indeed a challenge (frustrating,) to unlock their powers and bring the pressure to my opponent. Although I love seeing a colossal on the other end of the table when I drop DM....so easy to deal with. Goodluck!
