I went to a tournament last Saturday! It kind of snuck up on me, tbh. I've been working on honing my Severius2 list for a VERY long time to be a Cygnar-killer. It's on revision 5 or 6 at this point, and it does really well against a number of factions. But I had to figure out something to pair with it... I have a suspicion that Feora3 will make a BEASTLY complement, but I don't even have her assembled yet, much less enough games with to not immediately die for mis-positioning trying to use Incite in tournament play. So I waffled, and looked over a few lists I'd dojoed including Kreoss1 and Kreoss3, and ultimately decided that Thyra was a solid pair. One list to play defensive with Jacks, one list to play offensive with infantry. So I mocked up a Thyra list, and didn't playtest it at all:
Protectorate Army - 75 / 75 points
(Severius 2) Hierarch Severius [+26]
- Blessing of Vengeance [13]
- Crusader [10]
- Crusader [10]
- Scourge of Heresy [16]
- Reckoner [16]
Choir of Menoth (min) [4]
Choir of Menoth (min) [4]
Daughters of the Flame [10]
Wrack [1]
Vassal of Menoth [3]
Vassal Mechanik [1]
Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6]
Horgenhold Artillery Corps [6]
Vassal Mechanik [1]
Bunker (Steamroller) [0]
Protectorate Army - 75 / 75 points
(Thyra 1) Thyra, Flame of Sorrow [+29]
- Blood of Martyrs [16]
- Dervish [7]
- Dervish [7]
Avatar of Menoth [20]
Choir of Menoth (min) [4]
Exemplar Cinerators (max) [16]
Knights Exemplar [9]
- Knights Exemplar Officer [5]

Game 1 - Thyra vs Kaya3 = The Pit
I confess, this was my first game against Kaya3. He brought Loki, a Feral, an Argus, and 4 Scarsfell along with some sentry stones and a blackclad. I really wasn't prepared for everything to have Dodge, bonus def, AND stacked Synergy+Primal. That was rude. The right side of the board was actually looking really good for me with a Dervish and a unit of knights collapsing in on Kaya's flank, but the Blackclad and Loki tore away Thyra's bunker of Cinerators and she got bird'ed.
Loss by assassination.
Game 2 - Severius2 vs Sloan = Take and Hold
This game tilted me so hard, because this was the list I had designed my Sev2 to beat, and I lost it to a pair of rookie mistakes. Lesson 1: Against gunlines I need to ignore scenario, hide Severius, and win by attrition. Lesson 2: Kill the GMCA's first. I had the opportunity to do both of those things after landing Rebuke on his Storm Lances, and that would have made the game mine to lose. Instead the pope of nope got shot in the face bottom of turn 2. I am somewhat consoled by the knowledge that I will not make those mistakes again.
Loss by assassination.
At this point there was a lunch break, where - based on my AWFUL tie-breakers - I lamented my near-certain bye in the 3rd round with my buddies. However, Menoth smiled on me and I dodged it. I'm still not entirely certain how.
Game 3 - Thyra vs Skarre2 = Extraction
I needed this game, just to come off tilt a little bit. During list selection, I noticed that both of my opponent's lists were really heavy on Incorporeal stuff. Despite my Sev2 being the better list by miles, it doesn't have a lot of answers to that. Meanwhile, my Thyra list has a grand total of 5 models that DON'T have magic swords. He RAN a pair of Wraith Engines and 3 Machine Wraiths WAY far up front, keeping a unit of Ghost Raiders and 3 Slayers in reserve. He had apparently gotten great mileage out of Incorporeal and ARM bonuses against other opponents, but against a bunch of angry magical weapon masters were having none of that nonsense. I killed his entire first wave trivially, and he was solidly on the back foot from there. I wasn't able to completely table him due to deathclock, unfortunately.
Win by scenario.
Game 4 - Severius2 vs Rasheth
This was far and away my best game of the day, and halfway through I knew that whoever won, this game made my tournament entry fee worthwhile. He brought kind of a surprising Rasheth list - basically ranged infantry spam. No heavy beasts, nothing that lacked a ranged attack, it was a swarm of potential arc nodes, and was really quite disconcerting. The game turned into a slobber-knocker. He feated early, I took first blood on scenario, he killed literally all of my infantry, I feated to block some of his sight lines and take another Scenario point... In the end I had to Arcane Ward Severius2 and put him on a hill to force large CRA's (Oracular Vision FTW) while I trampled the Scourge of Heresy (who was ABSOLUTELY the MVP - Arcane Vortex keeping Rasheth SOMEWHAT honest) into the fat man.
Win by deathclock. (With 3CP and a mostly-undamaged Scourge of Heresy in melee with Rasheth)
So I went 2-2, placing somewhere in the realm of 12th out of 21. The Thyra list did very competently considering the lack of proper effort put into it, and it was fun to play the Avatar again even if he's not optimal in mk3. I still think that I'll replace her with Feora3 for the big tournament next month.
