G'Day all.
I missed a bit of the mk3 releases, and it seems I've come back just in time for some super restrictive theme lists. hooray.
Just a disclaimer first, I am looking to only play theme lists. It has been pointed out to me by people i respect that this is PP's will.
Therefore pretty much anything i post in these forums will be from that mindset, ie, how does xyz work, in theme.
As mentioned i unfortunately missed the release of the character unit, Spears, while it was still cool to run your balanced non theme list.
Because of that I haven't been able to get a feel for them.
In theory, and on paper, I do like what they're bringing to the table for their points cost.
Of course this can easily be mitigated by match ups, and real experience.
For now though, we can only really talk about them inside the mage hunter theme.
Has anyone had much success with this mage hunter theme, and utilizing these Spears?
Personally, I'm theorying an Issyria Mage hunter list where i think they can work, with the feat potential,
The threat range extender available, and their innate ability to shield guard + get vengeance.
Someone mentioned to be in passing that there is a play with Goreshade, where you can revive the grunts in the unit, as they're not all characters.
While this seemed neat... I'm not sure the revive game is very live at the moment, which said models needing to forfeit action, the spell should be cheaper.
Would love to hear thoughts and opinions on where you've seen the spears shine.
The next thing was Nyss Hunters...
Now it might just be me, but I'm finding myself adding them to almost every theme list, adding them through the merc option.
It then gives you friendly faction models, but adds much needed versatility to your lists.
In both units current form, I don't see any situation where you are really going to want to take MHSF+UA over a unit of Nyss (for less?)
It's a real shame they decided to nerf MHSF with more than just one hit of the bat, then decide to keep there points basically where they were.
