Not at all true, Ganso. I look at the tail-end of MKII as the most balanced the game the ever been (certainly better than at any point in MKIII), and that needed no themes to balance it. It took diligent work and rebalancing, and with CiD in place PP is in a better place than ever to get it right. This notion that it's impossible to balance the model stable in an open format is defeatist and flies in the face of what PP showed us they can accomplish. -und_ed I have to agree with the others. Personally I think the sweet spot, was after the Karchev/Una2 Apocalypse and before the release of the first iteration of theme .machine

There seem to be a lot of talk in the lines of PP tricking people into spending more or people being unwilling to leave or something. Many of us simply like what PP is doing. I've greatly enjoyed the amount of detailed fluff we've gotten in NQ Prime for each of the released theme forces and I like a lot of the models that have come out of exploring the themes some more; I'm excited to see what we get for Blighted Ogrun, Man O' Wars, and Dawnguard. I can see how it can be perceived that way, but really i think most of us are not trying to frame it in being tricked. At least, I have not. I've gone out of my way to state that certain goals are not nefarious. There is a fine line between manipulation and influencing behavior or action, and its a subjective one usually involving ultimate motive. I also mention in a couple places that there is absolutely a camp that fully enjoys what's going on. I'm trying to have an honest discussion and do my best to frame things from ... not necessarily unbiased, as my opinion is clear, but a logical and unemotional light. I don't agree with a lot of what is going on, but my disagreement does not equate to unethical behavior on the force of my opinion alone, it'd be nonsense to suggest otherwise. Of course there are people that like what's going on. I think its at least fair to say that the handling of themes is a thorny and controversial issue. The breadth of opinions in this thread (bellweather, such as it is) illustrates that, as did countless previous threads on the old boards, and on a bunch of other places i frequent. Anywho, i'm not trying to suggest that the cabal of Wills are growing handlebar mustaches to twist in the wee hours of the morning over how they can Firetruck people out of money. I am saying there's absolutely a marketing element to Steamroller, NQ, Themes, edition changes without question. That's not really debatable if the parties engaging in debate are well informed. It's also not inherently a negative thing either. chillychinaman - oddly enough that was my favorite spot too of MK3.

Didn't feel that this warranted a new thread, but does anyone else wish battle engines were part of the minions allotment for themes?

Well that I disagree with. No part of Mk2 was nearly as balanced as the game is now - even with its current flaws. But the imbalance in Mk2 was not due to a lack of themes, but due to a lack of refinement and playtesting. There were just some pieces (Haley2, Vayl2, Cryx, the list goes on) that were poorly balanced, hardly tested and (mostly) never adjusted. Model overlap was not the issue. Yep. This, all day long

I've got a Vault that I converted to be Circle-fied (Bloodweavers on top with a satyr head, two Ravagers pushing it) that I'll now never use, and probably never sell.
