Spoilers for the book
One of the most exciting things to me moving forward is the hints of maybe a troll sniper/Magnus3 unit. Seems pretty cool to maybe get a new blackops caster, and drastically different at that from Caine. Also that mechanic with dominate might be a thing going forward.

I thought the troll sniper was the express team?
You mean a troll sniper as a warlock? Magnus3 unit warcaster... who are the other guys/gals/its on that unit?

I can't imagine Magnus ever being unit. All the books I've read it's like Magnus is doing his own thing. The concept of Magnus willingly working with others seems odd to me but I haven't read Acts of War ii. Magnus only seems to "play well with others" so long as it suits him.

Oh, and while we're talking fluff, the former King Leto is a raging dumbass.

Lol well the new book paints Magnus... In a different light. And the troll sniper might be the muse for the express team, but.... SPOILERS. He pledges himself to Magnus and wont leave his side, and Magnus repeatedly starts talking about how him and stryker are starting to get a long and how hes becoming more moral and a team player, as well as becoming border line buddy cop with a CRS Ranger Lieutenant Dane. I fully think Magnus, if he goes epic, should bring his buddy with the sniper rifle along with him, maybe even Dane as well.
And that JR I'm proposing Reconstruct and Dominate to go along with his actions in the book.

Jesus... what is wrong with fiction writers? As soon as a villain gets interesting it gets a face lift and becomes a nice(r) guy...

I mean I have dreams of a warcaster combo magnus3 stryker4 like the twins. That would be hilarious / glorious. Their feat would be "Glower untrustworthingly at each other. Ever model in the control range of Magnus3 or Stryker4 feels uncomfortable."

Magnus has never seen himself as a villain, more the (anti-)hero Cygnar needs, even if they don't deserve him. And in fairness, his character development in the more recent novels isn't implausible (rushed, but not implausible). He's working in a different context and some events/people do cause some reconsideration of earlier attitudes. But there won't be a new Magnus version until the Acts of War series is finished. He's already held multiple ranks in two books, so any new version would either be too static or a spoiler. That, and I suspect he's going to die towards the end of the series...

Jesus... what is wrong with fiction writers? As soon as a villain gets interesting it gets a face lift and becomes a nice(r) guy... He was never a villain, he was a bad*** soldier determined to do all that it takes to keep the rightful heir on the throne. He was relentless, cunning and deceptive, but he wasn't a sadist or psycho, he just does what you do in a long a long war and hazardous situations to try to survive and eventually overcome the difficulties. He played hella dirty.

Well, what exactly is a villain? Is it an antagonist? Then we can have "good villains". A Villain as far as I know is an evildoer, he enjoyes doing evil acts and has plans that are going to hurt other for his own benefit. The more the hurt, the merrier he is. I doubt that was Magnus.

We can consult here: dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/villainI like grey characters, what I don't like is moral whitewashing. He promoted war for his won ends. Caine assassinated because he was told to and doing anything about it was too much trouble. I like them as character but as soon as they start gathering reasons why I should invite them into my home I stop linking it. Magnus is a cool character and so is Cain but I don't want them anywhere near me. My favorite character in IK is the Butcher, I hope they leave him mad, violent and a truly repugnant monster who is used by a cold-hearted monarch for her own ends.

He was relentless, cunning and deceptive, but he wasn't a sadist or psycho, he just does what you do in a long a long war and hazardous situations to try to survive and eventually overcome the difficulties. He played hella dirty. He's certainly a villain, or was. He's also not psychotic. He doesn't mind breaking a few eggs, even innocent eggs, to get what he wants done. He's not morally grey either, he's detestable. You may or may not agree with his ends, but when Stryker and Vlad are fighting to the death, and they both agree that Magnus went over the edge, something is up. Vlad will stab an MF'er, so will Stryker, but poison an entire army? That's overboard and dishonorable, even in the IK, even to Khador. Magnus will do that. I'm not sure where he sits on archetype chart, he's prolly true neutral. If it serves his ends he'll do it. Sometimes that means doing nothing, sometimes it means killing innocent people, and sometimes it means being an honorable knight of Cygnar. His moral fluidity is what has made him the most interesting character in the IK of late. He's still a villain and someone to not be trusted by anyone at any time.
