By which I mean he has a battery in his base.
He's actually subtly reposed (I wasn't really a fan of his old "pointing while doing the limbo" pose). The head is taken from Croe (the Cutthroat), with a goatee sculpted on. I figured, since he's Nemo's first incarnation, it made sense to show him in his younger days. Way more photos, including TONS of WIP shots, on my blog post here. BTW I call him Joules Verne, which I happen to think is hilarious and highly appropriate.

Two details I really love:
-You bothered to actually sculpt the holes in the safety gratings around the coils, which is really obvious when you look at them with the light on.
-The pun. 10/10 would laugh again.
Awesome.

Gorgerous! I love it! Did you cast the electro coils in semi-transparent resin to make them?
The painting is also extremely smooth and clean.
I like the new head, but sadly it loses a bit the "static electricity running around" feel. Anyway, still very beautiful.

Also, had you considered to light up also the shoulder pads of Nemo1? I can't think of something that would be cooler than a Nemo1 with the runes and the "circle nodes" on the shoulderpads glowing up!
It's obviously too late to do it now, but there was something in particular that stopped you from doing that?

Thanks Aegis! I made the coils by cutting lengths of acrylic rod and filing rings into them with a jewelers file and sandpaper (which is why they're a bit rough and the spacing isn't perfect). Casting in clear resin would have been a much better way to do it, but casting resin is something I have yet to take the plunge into. The blue colour on the coils is just Badger Minitaire's Ghost Tint: Plasma Fluid. Since this is Nemo 1 I thought it would be cool to show him when he was younger, hence the head swap. The head was taken from a spare Croe model - as it happens I was able to buy two min units for less than the cost of one max unit, leaving me with a spare. Little known (alternate) fact: his full name is actually Borin Croe, and he has a merrier and better looking brother called Robin Croe: The good thing about Croe's face is that it's bit craggy so Nemo wouldn't look too young. I also sculpted a goatee on to make him look a bit older and less constipated. I didn't try to light up his shoulders because it would have been VERY difficult, and a LOT of work - just getting the big LED in his body wired up and positioned right was much harder than I expected, I ended up having to cut his body in half to sort out the wiring. The smaller one in the staff wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. Sometimes you just gotta manage the scope of the project, you know? Plus the idea never actually occurred to me...

Well, yeah, I tought you did recast the parts you did light up. If you actually sculpted them it would have been a nightmare to light up the shoulder pads.
The most "simple" (if a work like that can be defined simple) way to do that would probably be recasting the upper part of Nemo's body in clear resin and just leave the runes and the other places unpainted, but doing so drilling the metal would likely be impossible.
Anyway, expecially after understanding that your worked with the metal model and sculpted the coils from an acrilyc rod, I'm even more speechless on how good it came out. Honestly, I had nightmares every time I had to cut or drill mayor parts of metal models (like in my Eyriss2 conversion, where I had to "carve away" the building under her keeping the cloack intact... I had my hands aching for one week after that work...).
Great job, also with Croe! I can't wait to see your next work!

This is pretty epic! The LED work is pretty incredible, especially when you consider the size you are working at with a small based model.
Resin casting is an interesting experience, but you do need to make sure you have a way to reduce air bubbles...I tried my hand at it a few times but I didn't have the funds to invest in a degassing chamber at the time so I had a number of failures from air bubbles. I recently saw a DIY vibrating table though so I may have to retry casting again at some point. In theory, a vibrating table should help reduce air bubbles and would be cheaper than a degassing chamber.

First, your work is amazing.
Second, I'm commenting because I name all my warjacks and I've got a firefly named Joules. Great minds and all that.

Thanks again for the kind words gents, it's very encouraging and helps keep me motivated! I had nightmares every time I had to cut or drill mayor parts of metal models (like in my Eyriss2 conversion, where I had to "carve away" the building under her keeping the cloack intact I know what you mean, I had a devil of a time carving the rock out from under Harkevich's foot! Interesting. It's something I hope to work up the courage to try someday. Although to be honest I'm leaning more towards 3D printing these days... that reminds me, I have a model I had printed up (many months ago...) in clear(ish) resin just waiting to be assembled, the big question is whether to put the time into filling it with LEDs, or just get the damned thing done quick and easy... ish... I name all my warjacks and I've got a firefly named Joules. Curses, once again I have been beaten to the punch! But seriously, that's cool! I do like naming my models; makes them more personal.
