No freebooter love? Thorn gun mages under feat for kd, freebooter not having to boost to hit gets 2 weaponmaster attacks and a headbutt Oh I love the freebooter. It's just not super thematic for landlocked Llael (say that 5 times fast). I've slowly been moving towards bringing more of them in my lists and having great success. I even thought about bringing them under Gaston into a Rhulic list with Avalanchers. That's the new hotness for me lately; I'm just trying to stay on topic. As for the Rover, its definitely solid, but we're comparing an 11 point heavy to a 15 point heavy and saying that the benefits of the 15 are situational. That's generally my problem with Mercs; we overpay for flexibility worse than any other faction. Compare Trencher Infantry and High Shields if you need an example. Sorry for sidetracking the conversation! I like the Gaston idea.

I love Ashlynn a lot. She may be not the strongest one but still playable. Consider Forge Guard, Idrian Skirmishers, Kayazy these unit will be happy with Quicken. I also have a list that run Gastone with 2 Freebooters, they are heavy missles and they are able to remove a KnockDowned heavy warjack. Also consider Rorsh & Brine, Brine able to charge 14" and 18" if Brine are buffed with Quicken.

Good advice guys. What about solos? We were looking at Rutgar and Taryn, Acosta, and Anastasia specifically. For units, he already has idrians and wanted to use those as his main faction is the protectorate. Thorn gun mages were on the list. Gaston is in. Gorman is in.
I really like Taryn, very flexible as most gun mages are. Rutgar makes her better. Acosta is ridiculous. Anastasia looks really fun but hard to use appropriately.

For solo, Gibbs is a must. If you are going to use gun mages, think about Gorman otherwise Ragman is better. The psychology effect for Anastasia is much more important than what she actually did. If you have 3 points left, try her. She is fun haha

Right, forgot about Gibbs, he was on the list too. Love the cat. The hot meal ability looks ridiculous.

Unrelated but my friends and I went into a Chinese restaurant and the menu had a typo for Human Beef...we questioned the waitress what it was actually made of, and noted there was a lack of homeless people in the area.

Haha, i guess it was Hunan beef. Anyway, hot meal is nice, but really, Reposition and Feign Death for Ashlynn is unvaluable and dramatically increase her chance of survival. In mk2, one of Ashlynn's main weakness was how easy it was to assassinate her by Knocking her down. Gibbs just solved this. And now she can cast distraction 10" away (Silys) then Reposition 3".

Won a game with Gibbs. Khador heavy with auto knockdown failed to kill Ash(left her on 2) winter guard couldn't shoot her, so they tried a CRA into Gibbs, with enough left over to finish Ash. Gibbs toughed. My turn, Gibbs stood up, hot meal.

Gibb's also can hit like a truck on the charge. He's amazing. Taryn is ok...but I'm not terribly impressed myself. Even with Rutger (who marshals a talon or buccaneer pretty well) its an overall package that doesn't support it's cost.
I love Anastasia personally. She frequently lets you go first and she eats a flanking Eiryss, Aiyana, Kell, etc. For 3 points, I always get my money's worth, but only if I didn't have something better to do with those points (meaning that I don't make room for her, but if I have 3 points, I never regret it).
Also Rhupert. If you have a unit, you should have a Rhupert.

We play her very differently apparently! When I win with her, it's because you can only cover so many angles of approach and it's hard to plan for the Rorsh and Brine murder bullet.

Wow, Brine with pigfarm up and under her feat, that is pretty much guaranteed caster kill. I am pretty sure diversionary tactic is my favorite ability in the game at the moment.

Ya...feat + quicken + diversionary tactic + lanyssa means that you're getting hit from 18" away non linear threat away by a decent heavy rocking bonuses to hit and damage.

Quicken and diversionary tactic already give 18" threat range to the pig. Add hunter and you get 20" ...
But normally you don't need Lanyssa. If the caster is 20" away, he is usually also too far for Lanyssa's Hunter mark. If he is less that 18", then you don't need her (Brine already charges for free with pain response, if needed shoot Brine, then let Rorsh heal it -but not completely- before diversionary)
The wins I got with Ashlynn were with the Ninja pig assassination move. All of them, 100%. Pigs and Gibbs are both auto-include for me
