Would it be legal/possible to convert vanilla longgunners to trencher longgunners ?
Now i have these longgunners from mrk 2 in my drawer unopen. (strange...)
I was thinking of trying to convert them to trencher longgunners, who seems sweet. But would it be legal in tournaments ?
Looking at the steamroller rules the weapon must be the same etc etc. The majour part of the model must be from PP, but it doesnt say that it must be the original model.
Now looking at the pictures it seems like the difference mainly are - trenchers have longer robe - trenchers have a big backpack - trenchers have a trencher helm.
So it could be possible to green stuff som robes. Add backpack from a Tamiya sett, and add some heads from a trencher set (and some without)
Opinions ?

It all depends on your sculpting skill and the amount of trencher details you pour in. They are PP models, so for the conversion rule it would be ok as soon as it's clear that they are trenchers and not normal long gunners.
If you want, you can also buy the metal backpacks from the PP site (to have the actual trenchers backpack to make an even stronger reference).
That said, honestly old long gunners sculpts aren't great enough to be worth it losing so much time on converting in my opinion. I would just proxy them as tr.long gunners if I play them only occasionally, or buy the new unit if I use it often.

I'm in the same boat as Cain. You also forgot to add in the giant shoulders that trenchers were. This is what I would do personally, buy backpacks for each one, sculpt shoulders on some while headgear on others. The unit leader would get both. Shoulders shouldn't be that hard to sculpt especially if you have left over knives from your commando unit.
