Thanks for the write ups! And I'm actually pretty enthralled by your Gorten list! I've always been a fan of the model, and I love the Avalancher, Basher, Brun and lug Models as well! I just to date haven't found a way to get them all working, so I may try this!

Give him some time lol. He writes in really detailed responses and is disseminating a lot of information from a lot of games. Not to mention he just spent some time traveling and is probably catching up on several things, so it will take him a day or two. It will be worth the wait, I'm sure. I was just giving him a hard time. I know it's worth the wait.

Agreed! I love the idea of Brun and Lug but hadn't really been able to find a spot for them. This is very encouraging.

I use him regularly in almost all of my Hammer Strike lists (I'm biased towards bears though) and have never regretted taking him. Very big fan of him. I use him similar to how tanan described with Brun on/near your own flag as he is very resilient with transfers and Stonehold

DAY2 GAME4: Gorten vs. Australia Bin Chicken: Andrew Haidon: Wanderer and 4 free gremlin swarms in Spread the netIt's the most live scenario in SR2017 and like many Finns I had too much fun last evening while searching for the "Spirit of WTC". Still, I wouldn't have changed a thing. I spoke about the hobby, politics and life with some of the best people I have ever met. It's moments like these that make you believe in good of man. A match that is supposed to be a plus becomes a minus, because I'm trying not to throw up on my models. I get an excellent feat turn during 2B, kill two Skin&Moans and force the wanderer to use his special trump card. Due to bad luck, activation mistakes and Andrews’s skill with his faction: the four free gremlin swarms, he gets a lead in scenario points. In the end, I have destroyed most of Andrews’s forces, but slow activations and forgetting to swap back to deathclock means that I lose to time on 6B. While it may sound that I'm a bitter man, this was all my fault. At the skill level we are at playing, I should (and usually are) have been more careful. Well, played sir. After the game we talk about how poorly I deployed TACs. I had spread them more to my flanks, I could have easily destroyed the contesting gremlin swarms. GAME5: Gorten vs. The Netherlands Deathclog: Michael Boom: Vindictus double Vengers and Exemplars in OutlastFeeling better already and another plus-matchup for Gorten! Outlast is also my favorite scenario when playing Gorten. It's virtually impossible for me lose this match, if there is no LoS and movement blocking terrain on the middle of the table. Michael aggressively runs his Vengers on 1A. I make the Basher bunker with flag and stonewall blocking landing zones and kill two Vengers (from same unit ocf) with Avalancher and HACs. Michael doesn't see the trap I have built for him and foolishly charges a Basher with both Venger units and uses Vindictus feat to prevent my charges. During 2B, I activate Gorten and catch his entire army in his feat. I kill all but one of the Vengers. Next turn, Michael activates his army, does some damage, but concedes at the end of 3A. We talk how this scenario and table heavily favored Gorten. There was very little that he could have done to prevent me from winning the game. GAME6: Gorten vs. Greece Prime: Vasilios Mavros: Krueger2 in OutlastFeeling great! I'm surprised that we are going to play Outlast again. Apparently a judge ordered us to play a wrong scenario in the previous round. I'm not complaining . Mavros chooses Krueger2 push list (gallows, feat, Loki), which is a terrible mistake IMHO because all rhulic warjacks are immune to pushes. When we start to play, it's obvious that Mavros is very tired (searching for the spirit of WTC too hard last night?). On many occasions, he forgets to leech fury and shake knockdown. Being a gentleman, I allowed him to correct these mistakes. Mavros sends Nyss hunters first, which CRA the basher for 5 damage and kill a single TAC grunt. During 2B, I kill all Nyss grunts with TACs, knockdown his caster by shooting nearby Megalith (don't you just love premeasuring and put two HAC shots on his caster, which he transfers away. Brun scores the flag and Avalanchers contest both zones. Once again, my opponent doesn't see the danger and commits his entire force. Primaled Slalker and Loki remove Brun&Lug and Avalancher. During 3B, I feat with Gorten and cast SoG to Rockram. Slalker and Loki get trivially removed and Thor scores the flag, so it's 2-0. TACs and Basher block LoS to Gorten to prevent last ditch assassination attempts. Mavros uses 10 minutes eyeing for an assassination, but there isn't one and he concedes at the end of 4A.

If you have any questions regarding models, lists, tactics, scenarios or the spirit of WTC I will gladly answer them.
It seems that DAY1 pictures have disapeared. Have I broken some rules regarding posting pictures?

so with the new info. on theme forces, and rhulic getting tough in theme, I was thinking of maybe modifying Tanan's list a bit to look more like the following; Mercenary Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Hammer Strike (Gorten 1) Gorten Grundback [+31] - Ghordson Avalancher [17] - Ghordson Basher [9] - Ghordson Basher [9] - Ghordson Driller [10] Brun Cragback [16] Thor Steinhammer [4] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [0(6)] Horgenhold Artillery Corps [0(6)] Tactical Arcanist Corps [7] Siege Crawler [18] Horgenhold Forge Guard (Max) [16]
Drop one Avalancher, a unit of TAC, and change the Wroughthammer to a driller for a Siege crawler and some Forge Guard. The additional units mean you don't have to sacrifice the Artillery. This way you have lots of units to benefit from Solid Ground, and Recursion from the Siege Crawler. Not only that but Thor isn't tied to a jack (unless you wanna put the Avalancher on him) so he can move around to either repair the siege crawler or boost Avalancher shots, or ya know... what ever! The only thing I don't like is the loss of shield guard from both... Tanan, since this is based off your list, what thoughts do you have? I'd love to hear them, and even without the Siege Crawler and Forge Guard I think the list you have is still killer even more so now with the inclusion of tough for warriors!

Thor with Avalancher can be very dangerous with the jack marshal benefits and tune up (and repo 5).

crow The problem with not having two Avalanchers is that your models might have trouble hitting stuff. Avalanchers are also one of the best ranged jacks* in the game and the theme upgrades every rhulic warcaster to mini-Harkevich (pun intended). There is very little reason not to include Avalanchers. Gorten control area is also very limited, you can't fit many small based models in there (warjacks take a lot less space and toe the area). That being said, my Gorten list lost to pre-errata double battle-engine, double forge guard list in the WTC. Having access to hard hiting tough recursible infantry is very good in the current meta. If you are going for recursion, you should play two battle engines, even if it meant playing minimum units. * Lets compare Avalancher to Avenger. They cost the same. Both have quake gun. Avenger has +1 MAT and three more p+s on melee weapon. Avalancher has +2 ranged threat range, +2 healthboxes, +2 ARM, shield guard, sturdy and 3" reposition from theme. I wonder which jack is better

I wonder which jack is better hmmmm... I can see you're point(s). lol I actually played your list against my dad the other day, ( he being a legion player) and was surprised with how effective the list was. I made several mistakes (spread out to far on either side, left a unit of TAC open for ambushing blight blades, etc.) but it still performed admirably. Heck even after a turn of seven important rolls, needing a 7 on two dice, failing I was still able to come back and turn it back into a grind fest. The one major thing I was unhappy with was he was able to kill thor... which meant that I was out an Avalancher kinda early on, since I wasn't able to get it focus to have it run to get back into position, and yeah it was slow plodding to try and get it back into position. The Avalanchers though only helped with KD once really, and even then it wasn't THAT important, but that's also because he was playing Fyanna and the +3 def on already def 14 models really hurts. Oh, and immunity blast damage. As I've said before though, this list uses a TON of what I love in dwarves (aesthetically) . I love the TAC, the Avalancher and the Basher are my two favorite jacks in the game, Brun and Lug have always been my most favorite of the lessers, and I like that the Artillery Corps have a female dwarf model . Oh, and can't get better then Gorten as far as dwarven looking goodness. Yet for some reason... never thought of putting them all together! Only issue now is I have to get two of many of the models in the list as I only kept one (cause I loved the model... but had no way to play it). Thanks for your honest feedback!

Losing Thor doesn't hurt the Avalancher "that" bad. Yes, it no longer gets repo 5, and can't get the jack marshal +2 to hit bonus (or any of the jack marshal bonuses). However, it still has repo 3 from the theme, and it is "Autonomous" after it loses its marshal, not "inert" as it would be if controlled by a Jr. So it still gets to move, and shoot and do things, it's just not as accurate. Yes this hurts its purpose in Tanan's list, but at least it has a fighting chance. Against Legion, and in your case, Fyanna, Gorten's feat helps counter that high defense or her feat. You can either try and delay during her feat and feat after her's is over, or use it to negate the defense bonus. Btw, crow , your favorite models echo some of mine. Just wanted to let you know you have good taste lol

crow How did you lose Thor? Considering all the LoS blocking heavies, blast immunity, shield guard and distance (10" (Thor run) + 9" (Thor CMD)+ 2" (Avalancher large base) + 4" (Avalancher SPD) + 12" (Avalancher RNG) => Thor distance from Avalancher target is 37") the last time I lost Thor prematurely was in 2016... I usually just take the +2 hit order and aim for +4 to hit and repo 5" to a better position. If enemy is lacking ranged weapons (or has just one non-spray gun), Thor is ofc hugging his warjack. I also want to highlight that I love the flexibility of marshalled Avalancher: Gorten's control range is limited. It's very handy to have an independent warjack that can score or hold sidezones while the caster is pushing towards the center of the table. Being a non-pushable warjack, there is very little the enemy can do besides destroying the Avalancher to score the zone. Onerounding ARM21 34-box heavy that doesn't mind keeping the distance is impossible for most lists. It's also worth mentioning that your father's Fyanna (OaA?) list is a top tier tournament list. It was played extensively in WTC so there is no shame in losing to it. Getting +3 DEF and dodge from feat on top of KD immunity is Gorten-good (so good that you have to use Gorten feat to counter it ).

When placing rock wall in front of the Basher bunker, you should follow the following procedure:
1. Take a 2" melee range finder* and place enemy proxy base where it can engage Bashers. 2. Place proxy** rock wall template so that's on top of enemy proxy base. Ask opponent or judge approval for unclear situations. 3. Try to repeat step 1 and if possible, repeat step 2. 4. Stop when the best landing spots are blocked. Remove enemy proxy base. Use small proxy base for Gorten position, if necessary. Activate Gorten, cast spell, move, shoot and then cast rock wall-spell and replace the proxy rock wall template with the real rock wall template. Alternatively if meaningful landing spots can't be blocked, remove the proxy wall template and don't activate Gorten.
* I'm assuming here that enemy has a melee range of 2". Usually that's the case for serious threats. ** Same as the real proxy wall template, but it's considered good manners to tell your opponent that you haven't yet committed to anything.
