I dunno.. IME the feeling of opening a good product is super good, and as I get older, it starts to exceed this "tight ruleset" factor for me. (They're not that tight tbh to deserve any special praise anymore. Maybe compared to GW at most, if even that.)
On the other hand, spending good money on a half melted product feels really bad. If only the Hydra was the problem..

I guess different players put their priorities in different ways. Many WM players don't care about the visual side of the game very much and care mainly about the rules and their precision. That's why people play with unassembled models and such - this represents that the game comes first and the models (and aesthetics in general) come second. I think we can all appreciate this to some extent. I've certainly played with cardboard circles when I didn't have any models available. It works.
If you use this as a general attitude, then buying a model is just a "PP tax" to be allowed to use the rules in organised play. If the model is melted and has mushy detail, who cares? You're not even going to assemble it anyway. You just want the rules.

Wishing indeed and this is exactly one of the reasons why some players cant stand WMH and the community. I personally know several people who wouldnt touch this game anymore, because theres no terrain, people dont paint their models and the price/quality ratio is dreadful. I try to understand both sides, but am personally leaning towards aesthetics these days.

Shrug* I personally appreciate being able to play not fully painted because I'm a slow painter. I try to get things painted as fast as i can and would be pretty miffed if a aesthetic fanatic refuses to play me cause a couple of my models aren't painted. But i think I've personally found a good balance between appreciating aesthetic and rules

The issue is most games have expensive models (infinity prices are pretty high too) but compensate fro that in some way. GW has really good looking models that take center stage on the tabletop and are normally customizable and IME assemble together easily and securely (at least the newer stuff that isn't pewter) Infinity has a rock solid game and their models are actually pretty cool (my biggest issue is I have trouble painting the smaller miniatures with lots of detail and theres not much in the way of customizing to my knowledge) Warmachine I was mostly into for the community (honestly I gues Im just lucky over here on the east coast but the people I have met and played against in this game are awesome) and the fact that I can play a caster like mohsar and still win games or have a chance. In 40K I could never bring just any list to a game shop and expect to win. I always either utterly obliterated my opponent or more often than not got obliterated by severe levels of cheese. Now that the game is going to balanced around attrition I just get a feeling that its about to get silly. (hoping Im wrong here) To me the models never drew me into to warmahordes (outside of the woldwrath and Fulcrum) it was always the people and gameplay.
I can count on one hand how many awful experiences I have had against players in this game and ive been playing for a few years now. 40K on the other hand...gosh people just forget its a game sometimes and I've been getting that vibe from the infinity players in my local meta too (but i don't know if thats widespread)
On the topic of painting I also paint slowly and I tend to paint pretty mediocre finished products (just cant get the models to look up to the standard of other peoples) I played horde armies a lot in 40K so I always had at least something unpainted (who has time to paint 400 ork boys decently) One of the things I like about warmahordes is its easier for me to set painting goals and it feels more rewarding and less like I'm trying to clean up rice off the floor with tweezers haha

GW stuff's up on MM now, a little disorganized at the moment, but I guess that will improve in time.
EDIT: Sad thing: even with 15% off, GW stuff is cheaper *full price* in GBP than what is charged in USD.
Gotta love that collapsing pound. . . .

In a related note, since the launch of Mk3 I have had a drastic increase in the amount of miss casts or missing parts in PP kits. Maybe I have just been unlucky. I played for 2 years before the launch of Mk3 and never once had to use the missing/replacement parts service. Since Mk3 launch I have needed to use it 3 times. All for missing parts.
PP are moving in the right direction. All the new plastic kits are lovely. However it seems to be at the expense of the quality of their other items.

Just opened a Bane Knight box and a Bane Thrall Officer and Standard. Bane Knights are missing 3 heads. Officer and Standard has two officer bodies rather than the one for each..... :-(
