I hope beyond hope that some additions to the Rhulfolk in the next year will provide options for the HSGC. This isn't just naivete, there are rumors/ isolated discussion about it. And after years immersed in Rhul, I've become patient.

When PP designs a new unit they compare them to what's already out there. Would you rather take High shields -> redesign Would you take it instead of Storm Lances -> redesign
thus High shields have a unique and meaningful position in the game as a whole.

And after years immersed in Rhul, I've become patient. I don't think they are lacking for "options"; I actually think that is the problem. They are seen as a toolkit unit like Trenchers, but lack all of the utility and efficiency that trenchers bring to the table.

They aren't terrible-terrible... but boy do they lack a selling point.
Laughable threat range, and ARM 19 is good, but not great.
I felt when they gave them CMA, that the studio didn't know what to do with them, so just rolled a die to see what random ability to give them.

Like...uhhh...just give them another keyword. Which one? I don't care! Put em all in a bag and pull one. Oooo....except any of the ones that increase threat range or survivability.

Honestly I thought that MAT6 and, possibly, POW 10 melee would've made them a shooting unit that could fight it's way out of a jam. It would also make shield wall a more tempting options, since engaging them wouldn't mean they were done for the rest of the game.

Hey, they're not SOOOO bad! I used them once during MK2 and they killed by themselves @24 Doom Reavers...in one turn! Too bad the other 6 Doom Reavers plus Butcher 2 just decimated the rest of my army the next turn

It was just one unit. Ok, my numbers are a bit off. Sorry, it was a while ago, and it was a MK2 35-pts game. It was ~24 Doom Reavers from the entire army, but the one unit of High Shields did the bulk of the work. Out of 22 shots, only like 4 missed or didn't wound. Mini Feat + aim + snipe. Still not saying they're great. Just that they can be useful...in a very specific scenario...and dice don't bone you...and you just don't want to take one of the many other units that can do the job just as well or better.

I was just giving you a hard time, but I'm always happy to hear stories about someone putting a lesser utilized unit on the table and seeing success.
Now, who wants to vouch for the OAC?

I've heard a couple of times that a Madhammer list with 3 OAC stomps Cryx. I don't know if I want to invest that much cash to see if it's true.

It's been a long time since I did it, but I used to run a list with madhammer and the OAC and it worked relatively well! Keep in mind though this was in the good old days of mark 2 soooo infantry was more of a thing, and he had inhospitable, which slowed the crap out of enemy armies without pathfinder. Not like now though... haven't put them on the table since mark 3
