The christmas CID is up.
We have Lt. Falk:
He's a solo with Rat7 Sp8 Pow12. Three attack types. 1. Attack becomes rng8. If the attack boxes the model, then a sp6 attack is centered on that model. 2. Incindiary (meh) 3. Models hit suffer an additional +2 dmg whenever taking magic damage.
He has reciprocate (when attacked with a ranged attack, he can shoot back afterwards). And he has Run&Gun.
Along with Falk, the following changes to SotT are up: -Up to 1 Merc solo, and 1 merc unit, may be included in the army. -Gun Mage Pistoleers and B13 gain Pistoleer rule in theme. (Boosted damage when making gunfighter attacks). -No more CRA.
Thoughts?
I think Falk looks really good. SotT improved, but is still subpar. Pistoleer is a really silly rule. I don't see much value in it.

Lieutenant Bastian Falk - Looks like a good addition to the gun mage theme. I'm super excited to have a damage boost available to them. I hope it's easy enough to trigger Run & Gun with his prays, b/c otherwise he'll be danger close to stuff after shooting. I do wish the Hail Fire was on hit or damage, not on box-ing. Makes it a lot more niche application.
Gun Mage Theme - Adding merc solo + unit option is nice. Could see doubling down on damage buffs by adding Aiyana & Holt w/ Murdoch, but that may be a bit much. Still not loving the theme, as it doesn't feel like the "gunfighter shots gets boosted damage rolls" is enough of a benefit that makes me jump to make a gun mage list. I'm honestly not even sure _what_ benefit would make me interested in playing SotT right now. Maybe with the addition of Falk, "Warjack weapons gain magical damage", or hell, "Friendly faction model weapons gain magical damage" would make this theme force super interesting to play. Too powerful? Too much overlap with Caine1? Not sure.

Warjacks marshalled to a gun mage unit gain some sort of cool ability (accumulator: gun mage, beacon, or something like that) 3. Black 13 get Ambush 4. Gun mage unit WITH CA attached gain Arcane Precision/True Sight/Old True Sight (ignore concealment instead of Cloud los) Those are just some ideas anyway.

Pow 12 weapon master with Falk isn't enough?! Weapon master? Are you talking about the Pistoleer rule in Sons of the Tempest? Because that's only for shots as a result of a gunfighter attack.

I played a couple games with CID Kraye in the SOT. The gunmages were real good at applying the feat and Adepts were great for dealing with stealth. It was fun but not super strong. A damage buff would help.

Would SoT benefit from being able to take the full complement of Warjacks instead of those with guns? Cause that's why I don't play it.

A damage buff would help. The gun mage models themselves are generally solid. The only one that stinks is the ATGM CA. He doesn't give the unit anything they want. Falk will offer a nice, in faction, damage buff. He should be fairly strong with them. The theme needs help.

Having no Ironclad or Hammersmith means you have no cheapish heavy ootions. The theme would love a Centurion because it can hold a zone, unlike any of the units. And since no Lancer, the only arc node options are Thorn and a Colossal. SotT would be way better if it allowed any non-character, non-lightning-immune warjacks, which would actually be thematic.

Combining concepts, they could alter it to allow any jack in faction but any marshaled jack with a gun counts toward free points. Bam. Suddenly I'll play the theme.

Allowing warjacks without ranged weapons would certainly make this a more playable theme because it then opens it up to some of the casters, especially Darius and somewhat to New Kraye. If PP won't budge on this then opening it up to allow warjacks with arc nodes would at least allow Lancers. The Pistoleer rule gives the gun mages a better ability to deal with high ARM targets like warjacks, medium infantry, and shield walled units, but you're hoping to get a critical hit to do any real damage with Critical Brutal Damage. (Black 13th and GMCA just became vicious with their Brutal Damage shots.) I'm not sure giving away CRA is worth it, though. I would like to see Pistoleer ~and~ CRA or Pistoleer and Dual Attack. Would it be worthwhile to ask for Pistoleer on marshaled warjacks?

I have a CA in my current list and it's pretty poor, he's definetly a model I'll swap out for a second rifleman to help deal damage. And, no, the Rifleman isn't a big time damage dealer but Deadly Shot helps this theme in tremendous ways. Stormsmith Dropout, have you taken any of your ideas to the CID forums?

Yeah, allowing any warjacks with gun counting for free points would make the theme a lot more interesting and would open it to a lot of casters (Sloan, Caine2 and Kraye too, that would fit into his theme).

I'm actually playing a CID game right now. Haley1 with as many gun mages as I can fit. I really miss CRA on them, because making them accurate is a real challenge will do a write up later.
