Today I got to play my first game with Ret. My friend and I started thought we’d start with some lower point games since it’s been a while, and he’s learning Grymkin, so we played at 35 points.

My opponent won the initial roll and decided to choose his starting table edge and go second. We rolled The Pit II from SR 2017. In the center circular zone there was a triangular rock formation actin as a 1 inch high obstruction. I deployed with my riflemen on the left flank, jacks, caster, and heavy gun center, and stormfalls on the right flank. He had a skin and moans, gorehound, and Lord Longfellow on the left flank, piggybacks, Heretic, and Cage Rager center, dreadrots on the right across from my stormfalls. Turn one all my stuff ran up, snipe went up on the heavy gun. Turn one for him all his stuff moved forward and he put a wall of fire in front of my riflemen.
Turn 2 Ret: Knowing he had the Shroud card and how Firetrucked I would be if I triggered it, the stormfalls on the right moved up and rained fire on the dreadrots. They hit all of them and lit the whole pumpkin patch on fire without actually killing anything for him to trigger shroud. The heavy gun put a shot into the cage rager and did about 8 damage. The manticore came up and laid down covering fire in front of the flaming garden while staying near the rock formation to protect his side from piggybacks. The Hydra walked up and put another shot into the cage rager for another 9 damage. Ravyn activated and moved Snipe over to the riflemen and dropped an inconvenient veil of mists to block all the charge lanes on the left. The riflemen started taking shots into the skin and moans putting about 15 damage on it, and a two man CRA knocked 6 points off the gorehound. Lots of stuff was damaged without triggering shroud, so I was happy. Score 1 CP
Turn 2 Grymkin: Half the dreadrots die in a fire. Things move up, the gorehound runs to engage a rifleman. Dreadrots come in from the side to kill stormfall archers next round. The piggybacks adopt a flying V formation and protect the Heretic. Score 1 CP
Turn 3 Ret: Snipe drops. The riflemen on the left reposition and put some cra’s into the gorehound but leave it on one. The ones that can’t get a line to him cra into skin and moans putting 6 more damage into him. The Manticore gets focus and empowered by mechanics (seriously way too many mechanics hanging around) and walked into the cage rager, throwing it into the rocks. It took a little damage and was knocked down. The heavy gun and Hydra shot the crap out of it, but left it on 3 boxes. I realize I should have walked the hydra up and melee’d it, but I was being cautious. Stormfalls miss some shots. Score 1 CP
Turn 3 Grymkin: Skin and moans walks through the veil of mist and kills 3 riflemen, then eats them to heal. The gorehound kills a rifleman and casts lightning strike to go hide behind a building. The Heretic is pissed and charges my manticore, raking its field right off and tearing half its boxes off. The cage rager gets up and finishes the manticore. Dreadrots come in and kill all but one stormfall. Score 3 CP.
Turn 4 Ret: Ravyn feats, drops a veil of mist on the cage rager, and puts a shot into the Heretic. He transfers 5 to Skin and Moans. A stormfall missed a shot on Heretic. Heavy Gun puts a shot in for 9 on the Heretic and he transfers to skin and moans. All his beasts are down to about 2 boxes, and he only has 1 fury left. Riflemen put a cra into Heretic for 6 and he kills his gorehound with transfers. Hydra walks up and finishes the Heretic off with initials.
We were in a hurry to play today, so I didn’t have time or the presence of mind to take pictures. Still, it was a fun game, and went by very quickly. My plan going in was to end as quickly as I could, and to let him move himself into a poor position by giving him bait to chase. The manticore took a forward position and teased him out of his flying V, but if I hadn’t killed him he would have won on scenario. The longer the game goes for Grymkin the better off they are.
