As someone who started off in Mercs playing pirates, I was pretty bummed that the old pirate boat fared so poorly in the transition to Mk III. I still play Shae with the commodore and lesser Warlocks and sometimes play Bart and Fiona with the Galleon and lessers respectively, but I have four trays of beautifully painted sea dogs and solos mostly collecting dust. Even when the theme force comes out, I doubt that the pirates will make much of a splash (har har) thanks to the changes in tough, proliferation of anti-infantry tech, and the lack of tools to crack armor or RFP undead stuff. The bonuses necessary would have to go far beyond the usual free solos and ambushing unit, and I just don't see it happening.
That said, with Company of Iron coming out, I'll definitely start putting them in the bag for game nights again. From what I've read about the rules, I think they'll be pretty good. Scary warjacks with flamethrowers and munch through infantry? Nearly eliminated. Casters with feats that directly or indirectly cause full units to evaporate? Gone. Just infantry and solos as far as the eye can see, perfect for pressgangers with Grogspar and Doc or Sea Dogs with Hawk and Rockbottom. Maybe I can even squeeze the DSM in there somewhere.
Anyway, I hope CoI takes off in my meta and if and when it does, my pirates will be ready.
Has anyone else been dojoing armies for Company of Iron?

I was sort of hoping for a theme benefit of Take Down for Pirates personally...

Where can I find the rules for this new version of the game?
I'm interested in setting up a stable for it.

Pirates in CoI might just be the excuse I need to make a full-size ship terrain piece...

Will CoI allow themes? I imagine that might be a little wonky in certain cases.

That was my assumption as well, but I figured I would ask people who were actually good at keeping up with things!
