Just a general ask to the community about who else is useful bar obviously Rhups... from my faint recollection of markII, we used to use a lot more variety but I guess theme forces mess that up a little at present...
what happened to Gorman? Eiyriss? Aiyanna+Holt?

To clarify further, I guess I mostly don't know why Gorman has disappeared as Blind just used to be amazing...

The main reason for the disappearance of Mercs/Minions is the introduction of theme forces which disallowed the vast majority of them. This is set to change in a coming CID, though the extent of the change is currently unknown.

Used goreman once, but failed to used it well. Never used him anymore. Used Eiryss a lot. High threat vs jacks and casters. Never used Aiyana and Holt.
Saxon Orik and Allen Ashley for beast hunting. I was thinking about Kell Bailoch too, but no opportunity using him for now. Rhupert, of course. Always useful. Madelyn with Reznik, sometimes. But she's in competition with the Hierophant.
I've heard about McHorn and the Devil's dogs with HR, but I've not give them a try for now. Same for the Thorn Gun Mages with Malekus.

Taryn has her uses.
Shadow fire is pretty boss.

Oh, and try devil dogs with attendant and vessel. You can knockdown a beast/jack on their turn, meaning they can't shake.

Points are at a premium. The only mercs I tend to take these days are Kell and Rhupert. Although I think I will have to pick up Madelyn for Reznik 2
I also want to pick up Taryn at some point if I ever start playing the Kreoss pop and drop again
Eiryss can be useful, but I usually do not have the points left to include her in anything
I've been considering Thorn Gun Mages with Malekus and Reznik 2

I've never seen Taryn used but I can Understand why she would be useful if the other side has anit-knockdown tech

Kell is absolutely amazing. Keep him safe and around until the end game where he has the most value in his auto3 damage and double shots. Advanced deployment is a bit of a trap for him as his time is better spent in the late game rather than thinning the herds of tarpit in turn 1.
Eiryss (both versions) are incredible assets on the field. Eiryss is expensive, but god help your opponent if he forgets she's around. She can win games just by wandering in and popping a shot at the right model. I'm not using her as much because I have opponents who appreciate her threat and plan accordingly around her, so her value is lowered somewhat.
Gorman is an odd one. He was really valuable but now doesn't seem to have a place in my lists. I faced him recently at a tournament where he rusted my Templar, but it wasn't enough to make a big difference to take him off the board.

I'm particularly favorable to eiryss 2. We have a lot of incidental anti-hordes tech with the spell hate and ashen veil working on beasts and the like, and then eiyriss comes in and disrupts key targets with excellent reliability.

I have to say as long as Cav and jack spams are the thing, Kell Bailoch is an auto include whenever out of theme.

To clarify further, I guess I mostly don't know why Gorman has disappeared as Blind just used to be amazing... Because you couldn't shake it, so he was a 2pt model that could stunlock a 19pt colossal if he started within 11" of it. Ditto for how Eiryss2 could run 14" to "elf-bomb" a colossal to deny focus allocation, ignoring the usual rules for disruption immunity.

I actually ran Gorman in a Cygnar list this week. He's great into shield wall infantry because black oil can take a good part of those heavy shield wall infantry units out of the fight for a turn. He's also great to drop the armor on a colossal. Protectorate in particular benefits because -4 Defense means that an aiming redeemer is (barring snake eyes) going to be able to drop 3 boosted damage shots per turn into a heavy.
Again main problem is the theme list. He's great but not.....giving up 15 free points great.
