So this past week I got my Ossyan list from my painter ( except for the AFG which shoukd be done next week). I dropped him twice this weekend in my first SR17. I had him paired with my Helynna double sentinel list.
Round1 i dropped him into skorne ( makeda1/rasheth). I was certain he would drop makeda since run and jackhammer ( for AFG) and krea was a good safeguard. He choose rasheth who had 3 titans, slingers and a BE in theme.
I dropped Ossyan even though I was sure he would drop makeda1 with molik and the cats. I did not want to drop armor skew into corrosion AOEs and a trampling BE and a feat that makes them weaker.
The current list is not in theme. It will be once swordsmen are painted.
The current list is:

Lord Arcanist Ossyan - WJ: +28

The Scenario was Recon2. He chose to play Rasheth which made me confident in my choice. He went first and I chose the side of the table with a hill and the flag that was shielded by a forest and a lake.
Turn 1 I got Quicken on the Sentinels, Fortune on the AFG and Admonition on Moros. I ran everything but the AFG, I advanced him and shot 2 4" AOEs to close the gap between the forest and the lake by shooting at 2 of his slingers and killing them. I also used the minifeat on the sentinels and used them to screen my force.
His second turn he used the slingers to corrode all but 2-3 of my Sentinels. Then Charged in to kill some of them with his BE before using his repo to get into his zone. The only other model in his threat was Moros who he managed to get some damage on by giving eyeless sight to something with one of his solos. He did use feat on this turn.
My second turn 2-3 of my sentinels corrosion wore off and I did my vengeance maneuvers to position them to charge over the lake at his heavies after my guns had all gotten some damage done. I popped feat, killed his bronzeback, his cannoneer and his Battle engine leaving him with just a gladiator, 5-6 slingers and his artillery piece while also scoring 1 on my flag( his gladiator was still in the zone so I couldn't score 2. He clocked out on his next turn.
Round 2 I dropped Helynna.
Round 3 I was up against PoM Harby/Reznik2. I don't think he felt that he had enough shield guards to keep harby safe ( roven + shield guard jack) so he dropped reznik2 ( in jack theme). He went first ( 3 games in a row going second!) and I chose the board side with 2 forests and a hill. The scenario was standoff.
His turn1 he ran up the board aggressively with all his jacks and Reznik doing his best to keep them behind one of the forests. I did notice during deployment that he had all of his choir on my left but his heavies on my right. I ran Hypnos and AFG to the right, Moros to right behind the forest and my HRTs onto the hill with my 2 units of archers in reserve.
His turn 2 he used curse, flare, and a light jack( on tristan) to kill Moros. Doing so left his reckoner and the light jack exposed. I killed both jacks and got some damage onto his Templar with a shield guard and some shots from one unit of SFA. I managed to score both circles and my rectangle ( with Ossyan). End of turn 2 score was 3-1.
Turn 3 he sent scourge into my objective to contest zone and score for destroying it and ran a mechanic behind a house to toe in the far circle zone where I'd never get it. Using the book he contested the other circle. I put quicken on Hypnos and loaded him with mechaniks, got 1 damage on book and sent him in for 4 more points to clear my closer zone. The sentinels removed Templar and got his Devout to 1 box with the rest of my firepower going into Scourge ( taking out both of his arms). We both scored a few more points.
Turn 4 he used feat to trivially remove all of the sentinels. He tried to send scourge into Ossyan but I purposefully did not put any upkeeps on him so he wouldn't get to use his purgation weapon. Hitting with one dice did not work so Ossyan was left untouched. He ran some mechanics and a vassal in to jam up Hypnos and contest the zone. My turn I used arcantric bolt( 2x b/c he had a focus to AV) to stationary scourge( had to future sight damage to land it) so I could charge one of the mechanics blocking Hypnos and to get out of the way for AFG to charge Scourge to be in the rectangle to score ( I was 4.1" out of the zone). 2 AFG shots and a HRT shot I killed Scourge. All my SFA went into killing his objective to score another point. My mechaniks were not close enough to get to hypnos and I needed him to move into his rectangle to contest. I used my power up focus to Trample over the 2 models and get into the zone.
Turn 5 he used his entire stack to kill Hypnos with Reznik ( he got a crit knockdown on his first attack) and ran stuff in to my zones to contest. Next turn I only had 1:30 remaining and I lost on clock. At the end I had destroyed 84 points and he had destroyed 61 and we were pretty even on CP. I think if I had played more efficiently I could have won considering all he had left was choir, mechanics and Reznik. Overall it was a very close game.
This list will be changing to a new list to get into theme in the near future ( once it's all painted) :

The biggest problems the list had in my 2 games was:
1. Moros was way easier for my oponent to deal with than I imagined
2. Having Sentinels in both lists makes things difficult ( when enemy has sniper, anatomical, corrosion, etc)
3. Lack of solos I'd want to sit b2b with the flag
4. Upkeeping 3-4 spells leaves Ossyan strapped for focus.
The changes to bring it into theme give me several ways to shore up these weaknesses.
1. A banshee is way more resilient than Moros. The loss of paralyze hurts vs things like Fyanna2 but strengthens my long game armor cracking abilities.
2. The biggest weaknesses the Sentinels face are auto point damage and corrosion AOEs ( since having to stand b2b for their bonus this really sucks). With Quicken the Swordsmen will be DEF17 to sniper fire and the turn you really need them to screen you can minifeat to protect them from melee infantry. Since they don't need to be b2b you can screen a larger area. They also have parry so the following turn you can either run them 16" into a zone to score or walk 8" + RNG 2 behind the models engaging you to kill all their juicy support models leaving their front lines unengaged in aiming range of your archers. They'll most likely have to send a heavy or a BE to clear out the swordsmen leaving something in charge range of your beatsticks.
3. In scenarios where you need to send a solo to either hold a flag or to kill the solo on their flag the Pain Knight gets the job done. 13" charge threat without quicken and not the easiest model to remove.
The other option ( CID pending) would be to swap him for Eiryss1. With fortune on her your "hit confirm" for some assassination runs gets a lot more viable. At RAT9 needing 7-8s to hit with a reroll your odds go way up. Plus being stealth to score a flag is nice. After she gets the shot off you can swap Fortune onto something else in range that can increases your armies chance to hit ( like Shadow Bind, Temp Distortion, Banshee Gun, AFG slam). If you get shadow bind off on a DEF 16( down to 13) caster then even a walking AFG with 2 RAT7 4d6 POW 14s can kill most casters that have no focus/fury and if you can aim it's game over.
4. Having 1 free upkeep + arcane assist ( to even further prevent having to future sight spells when you need them) + 2" more on getting out upkeeps( when casting through yourself) can't hurt either.
The main things I feel that need improvement are being more efficient in both deployment ( having everything you want to get an upkeep on in range and in LOS of Ossyan or Hypnos was tricky)and in my activations. Since these were my first 2 games with Ossyan it is bound to get easier. Having to check war room for stuff can really slow you down( never thought I'd need to know what Ossyan's MAT was!). I feel that between practice and the changes coming to the list in the near future that this list will do well in my pairing. A 3rd list is also in the works, hopefully painted by Christmas... Vyros1! With more meaningful terrain and the removal of kilbox on the sides of the table I feel his ability to perform a strong flanking maneuver and turn the table 90 degrees on an oponent makes him a strong SR17 caster.
