I gotta say, I'm weirded out by the trend of sexualization with their "exclusive model" line. When they aren't making bizarre pinup versions of things they're putting Arlan Versh in assless chaps. I fully support their right to do this and I hope they find an audience but that audience definitely not me. It just reminds me of Kingdom Death, where the pinup concept has been a huge thing for ages as far as I can tell.

I'm really starting to think of it as a potential investment opportunity. Get the mini, sell it on eBay for an additional 25% in a month or so.

Maybe, maybe not. For the fun of it, I would say yes.
It would be an experiment, for sure. Who knows how much they could sell for? If someone was willing to buy them for double a few months after they came out it would probably be worth it.
Edit: I am also trying to give people better context for "money grab".

Exactly, if it was a truly limited release or where the sculpts will be very difficult hard to get (eg Gorman di Sea Wulfe, or the NQ Eyriss), then yes, it'd probably be a good investment for future resale. PP is going to make as many as people order, so if a ton of people order it (which it seems quite a few people will be), it's not going to be exactly rare.

While I love the pin-up models, I don't think they are worth a subscription to Mini-Crate. $17 USD each or $100 USD for 6 models is very steep even for a limited production run. My gaming budget is limited in the first place and with the upcoming Man-O-War releases it will be stretched thin. Shelling out $17 a month just for a mini I may or may not use is not a good idea. Even if I sell off those that are out of faction, I don't think they will sell much more then what you will pay for them.
I keep thinking back to everyone buying the special cover comics in the 90s and early 2000s, All you have to do is hold on to them and they were going to be worth so much in a few years. Think they are selling for cover price 20 years later. I would not buy them just for "investment" purposes, If you like the model then I would buy that model not subscribe.

People wanting to buy them just to eBay them is pretty weak. They're cool sculpts of cool minis. Get them if you like the sculpts. If you don't like the sculpts then don't get them.

You made a judgement: people buying minis to sell is weak. I want to hear the justifications on why that is worse than another option, assuming "weak" is a negative attribute.

Scalping is a legitimate business, at least in the U.S., though it does annoy me when they buy up actually limited products just to drive the price up for profits.

I think it's lame. That's my justification.

I'm really starting to think of it as a potential investment opportunity. Get the mini, sell it on eBay for an additional 25% in a month or so. When the Retribution was *first* released at Gencon who-knows how many years ago I had the same thought: "I'll drive from Dayton over to Indianapolis, snag some of those Elves, and put them up on Bartertown. It's the first new faction, everybody is going to want them! What could go wrong? Easy money!!!" The sound of the crickets chirping after I put them upon Bartertown was deafening. Nobody wanted them. I still have them, by the way, unopened. I don't see your scheme as scalping, because they are going to make as many as they need to fill the orders - it's not like you're taking from a limited pool of available product to turn around and resell. If 10 people want a particular month's mini, they make 10 copies. If 1,000,000 people want a particular month's mini, they make 1,000,000 copies. They're just not going to make any more after that month. I'd advise you against the idea simply because I doubt the demand is going to be there, unless they turn out an unusually spectacular miniature. And even then, you may only break even on the sale. Remember, limited supply drives prices up from heightened demand only if the demand is there to begin with.

Looks like I'm in the minority here but I'm very excited about this. The annual pin-up sculpt was something I looked forward to and I collected them all - even for factions I don't own and have no intention to. They're just a fun twist on game people tend to take too seriously. For those planning to be ebay scalpers go for it... I'd probably buy an extra or two of anything non-character off of you.
