In this CID cycle we are testing a new core rules change that will change the way Theme Forces work. In addition to the models that are allowed in a Theme Force, a player may take one Mercenary/Minion Solo, Unit and Battle Engine. The goal for this change is to allow for deeper list building inside of themes lists by allowing for more options while remaining thematic. The Mercenary/Minion model must be able to work for the faction taking it, it doesn't become a free-for-all. Additionally, please note that with the current wording that Mercenary and Minion theme forces will remain unchanged with this rule and will not be able to include these additional models types.
Those be tge words of privateer press.

Siege Crawler brings a lot to the table. Especially in themes that don't have.a lot of heavy hitters.

Umm as a circle player who always misses with Loki having puppet master on a stick is going to be bananas. Also, star crossed in oracles of annihilation may be silly This Cid looks awesome. Cannot wait to test this stuff out.

Well, there goes my Sorscha_1 non theme list out the window With this new core rule I can totally run her in WGK or Jaws and still have access to Sylys and Siege Crawler Right now the RAW says you can run one of each, and still take Merc Jacks with their respective Marshals and Juniors. I wonder if tests will make them limit them to One thing period?

It seems like Creator's Wrath has finally gotten its screening unit since Idrians are Partisan Mercs.

Yeah this is the single dumbest thing I've seen in MKIII so far. Theme forces were doing great by introducing limitations to list building while adding powerful benefits. Now a whole bunch of those limitations are just gone. I think we'll see a very strong resurgeance of Ragman, Ruhpert, the spy chick and the introduction of partisan mercs back into lists.
The biggest issue I see here is the piper. Lots of theme lists had trouble with pathfinder. Now that's going to be a trivial problem to remove again so terrain will end up meaning a lot less. Also tough on a stick will be everywhere in the Protectorate and Cygnar. Cygnar's theme forces just got a universal damage fixer ... great.
Errants just got moved to the back of the shelf again as you can now have tough Idrians in the interdiction.
Bad move PP ... bad move.

I have also heard nonstop complaints about how theme forces are dull and too constricting. Pp cant please either way.

Yup, looks like a singularly bad idea to me. Maybe if some of the earlier themes were to be revised a bit it could be ok, but I don't see that happening.

What else is supposed to balance their benefits otherwise?

The way I see it, the "balancing" of including Mercs/Minions, is that they most likely won't benefit from the Theme benefits. This is however countered with some of the better Mercs/Minions being supporters who provide buffs.
On one hand, the introduction of Theme forces basically removed most Mercs/Minion from the game. On another, it does remove weaknesses from Theme forces.
Finally, Rhupert is powerful, but he only affects 1 unit. Is 1 unit gaining tough, concealment or Pathfinder really that gamebreaking?
