This is not a thread to be which one is better because they do very different things but rather which one do you see yourself reaching for first in your lists and why? Which casters have you found prefer one over the other in your experience given your playstyle.
For me, Issyria for example always takes Hyperion in her lists because it provides a lot of what I think she needs and gives her a nice all game anchor and they babysit each other.
Hellyna, I have used both but overall I think Helios gives her more tools that she wants (though Hyperion is still solid with her) especially broadcast power and the drag gun, plus with her it becomes even harder to remove than it normally is (and that is saying something).
Vyros 2 is another caster that I enjoy Helios with for similar reasons to Hellyna but in addition it ups his game a lot thanks to being able to drag targets closer and with birds eye they have far fewer places to hide.

Issyria wants Hyperion - every part of her kit synergizes with it, from Ancillary Attack for the Sparklecannon/another PS 23 attack, to feat for Crit Consume, to the huge base giving Issyria a place to hide, to inviolable resolve keeping Hyperion alive, to Hyperion being a durable and hard-hitting piece to give Issyria a credible late game presence.
Everyone else who wants a colossal takes Helios. He just does waaaaay too much work and brings way too much utility to ever take a Hyperion over him, except in the very specific case of Issyria.

Well actually I would say Ossyan also digs himself Hyperion a LOT (which I failed to mention in my first post). Fortune provides a decent accuracy-ish buff for it and it brings a lot of guns, and can take major advantage of his field marshal.

That's fair. If I were to take a colossal with Ossyan, it would be Hyperion, but I find that Hypnos + Banshee is too good a loadout for him to consider a colossal most of the time.

Oh I get you, I do not always take a colossal with Ossyan or really anyone (other than Issyria) but when I do, I reach for Hyperion. Helios could however make pretty good use of fortune but misses out on the feat too much for me to consider it.

In general, I find that I reach for the Helios if my 'caster has melee threat extension (like Vyros1, Elara2, or Thyron). As mentioned above, extra shots or extra range or damage on ranged weapons makes the Hyperion more interesting. Here are a few more instances where the Hyperion shines (although I find it can be useful in just about any list):
1) Forges of War. Playing a list with a ton of 'jacks means that you often lack anti-infantry capabilities and the Starburst Cannon helps significantly.
2) Ravyn also loves Snipe on the Starburst Cannon, making it much more difficult for most enemies to charge the Hyperion after you unload the high-POW shot. If you add an Arcantric Force Generator for an extra 2", it threatens 21" (the opponent had better keep his 'caster safe and out of sight).
3) Garryth. If the extra shot is good with Issyria, Garryth can do the same thing (note that the Hyperion is an excellent Sentry target due to being able to shoot while in melee). Garryth incidentally also loves to hide behind huge bases.
I haven't played Ghyrrshyld yet but I'm tempted to try the Hyperion with him due to Mage Sight.

As much as I want to like Helios I still find myself reaching for Hyperion 99/100 times. My experience with Helios from proxy games is that he never has enough resources to do what I want him to do on any given turn; if I want to protect him I can't boost his RAT5 gun, if I boost all his gun shots I'm not getting many melee attacks, If I'm trying to use Broadcast Power he's probably not where he needs to be offensively. Hyperion on the other hand provides an excellent gun platform for a pretty minimal price increase. For me as much as I want to like Helios I just can't bring myself to put him in lists.

I know that I have regretted not putting the Hyperion in my Rahn Forges of War list but I have fared better with Helios under Thyron and Vyros1. I need to test Helios with Helynna for even more survivability.

I've tried him with Elara2, Rahn, and Vyros2.
