Here I am again, hello darkness my old friend......
Anyway, my legion opponent wanted a rematch, so we faced off for the last time this year. Well unless we meet up on Christmas day instead of spending our time opening presents. More specifically the Old Witch2.
Now I'm not really the kind of man to jump to second base without spending some time at the first base, and seeing as Christmas is the time for giving, so I decided to gift my opponent an easy win and play with OW1.
Now I pretty much stole this list from
jonnyboy , so any issues with the battle are obviously his fault and have nothing to do with me.
I ended up going into the Twins.

Right, now Ol' Witchy really doesn't like getting tagged with attacks from range. And with the change to Guidance, Craelix gets 3 shots a turn that ignore stealth. Thanks PP. I thought the idea was to get rid of 'essential' merc and minion models, so if I get my hands on you it won't be pretty. It also just means that I'll throw warjacks at Legion until my opponent decides to drop him.
This whole 'The Witch is just going to die like a dog.' really sticks with me throughout the entire game. But I win the roll off and choose to go second.
I actually remembered to take a lot of pictures in this one, but I fall apart towards the end anyway. You may also notice that my opponent forgot to play his Hellion. It's because he felt bad about facing off against the Old Witch and has nothing to do with his shoddy memory.
But the Swordsmen gain Occultation and everything goes running or charging up the board.
Old Witch puts Iron Flesh on the Kayazy, Avatar of Slaughter on Scrappyjack and throws out a cloud. In standard tradition, everything that can run or move does so posthaste!
This picture is half way through my opponent's turn, he is avoiding the great big zone of spikes. But Craelix gets eyeless sight and proceeds to kill a Kayazy Eliminator, the Raptors move up far enough to kill 3 Kayazy including the Underboss. Sad times to be alive. Azreal hits one of the Juggernauts twice, but fails to slam him and fails to do more than a few points of damage.
Now I do make a few important mistakes here, I fuel the left Juggernaut to full firstly the Witch Advances and feats. Which pretty much catches the entire right side of the board. Now I probably could have played more aggressive with her here, but alas. This allows a Kayazy to move up and kill Craelix without taking a killer countercharge. However, I fail to move Scrapjack into the right zone. Behemoth tries to kill the Raptor in the centre zone but misses both shots due to cover. But the Kayazy can kill the front most Raptor, allowing the Juggernaut to remove the majority of the boxes from Azreal. But he doesn't kill him. The Destroyer, which has been wandering around for a few turns, kills the Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew.
Now my problems were that I didn't contest the right zone with enough, and I should have shot Azreal twice because he'd probably be dead. As I failed to clear the centre zone, the score stands at 0-0.
Now, using a spell martyr to sneak into non-stealth range, Saeryn kills her with a razor wind. And the twins move around. The single swordsmen out of the zone moves and then dies. Allowing my opponent an easy score. He attempts to clear my left zone, but Azreal isn't as good in melee as he is at range and so he only half kills the Juggernaut, but only removes his left arm. Charging Raptors fail to do anything else. Zuriel does a much better job killing the metal juggernut, using precision strike to knock out his right arm and cortex. And then putting up dodge to stay safe.
This allows my opponent to go 1-0, although I fail to take a picture.
But on my turn, the Witch gives out some focus to the undamaged Juggernaut in the middle. Scrapjack goes berserk and kills a few Swordsmen, the Witch moves away from them to stay away from WM attacks that will kill her dead and pulls the jack back with her. The healthy Juggernaut boosts to hit Zuriel, hoping for a critical hit, but he doesn't get it. However he takes him down to a few boxes. The remaining Juggernaut tries and fails to kill him, however my opponent takes the bait and Dodges Zuriel out of the zone. The Juggernaut kills Azreal, and because I'm an idiot Behemoth fires two shots at Saeryn. Both hit easily enough, but she transfers the damage to something else. I should have gone for the raptors. But an idiot I am, intelligent I am not. Sylys moves to prevent a cleave shot hitting the Witch.
Anyway, it goes to 1-1.
Now Scrappy's high defence saves him here and only 3 swordsmen get hits on him. Sylys dodges the swordsmen attack and declare him a chicken. Rhyas has to come into the Juggernaut in the zone herself to do the dirty work and kill him after the Raptors, Zuriel and Stinger fail. Again due to not using Behemoth correctly, this allows my opponent to score again. On that zone, and Zuriel prevents me from scoring the middle.
So its now 2-1.
Now this is it, Scrapjack still has his head and his legs, and these guys are in a lovely looking arc. This is a berserk masterpiece, there could not be a better moment for Avatar of Slaughter to go mad. He gets a full load of focus he goes in deep.
AND HE FAILS TO ROLL A SEVEN ON FIVE ATTEMPTS!!!!!!
I was furious, if I was a lesser man I would have sold my Khador then and there and picked up Cygnar instead. But I'm not a lesser man luckily. Sylys misses the one in front of himself again. The two Kayazy charge and try to tie up Saeryn, but the charge attack misses and she kills him with Riposte.
Behemoth does manage to kill Rhyas, but he fails to kill off the barely fuctioning Zuriel. A lucky shot from the other Destroyer manages to finish him off however. Bare in mind, I didn't actually shoot Rhyas and the blast damage killed her. But a Juggernaut charges Saeryn and does pretty much nothing to her due to her DEF 18 from the Guard dog. The crippled one walks back and kills the Mist Speaker. The witch slaughters herself and then kills 2 Swordsmen.
Due to les incompetents, I fall behind to 3-1. After failing to clear both zones on the right, and failing to actually contest the zone on my left. I also fail to take a picture, potentially due to sadness.
The Raptors kill both Forgeseers and then proceed to engage Behemoth to keep him out of the zone. The 2 swordsmen that Scrapjack failed to kill then kill him. Or they just tell him he's a bad boy and he falls apart due to stress. The remaining one still cannot kill Sylys. The Protector kills the Kayazy, Saeryn moves around to be able to attack the Juggernaut that charged her, and respawn her sister to kill the other one. They manage to do this quite well.
No picture again, but its now 4-1.
So I make yet another error at this point. Rather than keeping Behemoth in melee I move him back and shoot the raptors, only killing 2. I was hoping to kill the middle one with blast damage, but I failed at that. However the Old Witch does kill 2 more Swordmen, and it takes 2 Gallows attempts, but I finally kill the Swordsman in melee with Sylys. However in doing so I moved the witch out of the forest.
It doesn't take much for my opponent to seal the deal, the remaining Raptor that I should have killed just walks away from Behemoth, lines up a shot to the Old Witch's butt and whacks her for 6,6,5 damage. Then Saeyrn arcs a Razor wind through her sister and that ends the game.
So its a very festive Khador defeat. Ho Ho Bugger off.
Of course in standard Welshhoppo tradition I shall take no blame for this defeat! It's all Jonnyboy's fault!
Of course I am kidding, I made several mistakes along the way and most of them ended up with me dying. If I had killed Azreal first, then I would have been able to take out the raptors sooner. Although I'm not sure why I didn't just walk in and punch them to death, as I could have 3 fully boosted hits and left them in melee. Same for walking the witch out of prowl, and I died the exact same way I feared to die. By being shot to death. But I think the game was decided before then. I still had Behemoth, but the Twins were approaching and I doubt the witch could clear them off. Without the marshal behind the Destroyer, he was worthless. And that's normally why I keep them in the Battlegroup, because I have this fear of the marshal dropping dead.
But it was a good fun game, no doubt I played the Old Witch Hella wrong, and I'd appreciate advice on how to improve for when I pull her out again!
