When you think of Arlan, you think Empower, Magical Weapons and Repair, however he does have another ability, the apparently seldom used 'Evasive Action'
Evasive Action states: ... when a model with Evasive is hit by an enemy ranged attack....can advance up to 2"
This is very interesting for 2 reasons
1) It is not a one-off ability, you can trigger it each time you are hit
2) it does not specify 'directly hit' so getting caught by blast damage will trigger it
What bought this to mind was a game I watched on Youtube between Haley 2 Heavy Metal and Rahn with Helios and Hyperion, if the Haley player had led with a jack that had Evasive Action, Helios could have shot it with his tractor beam, pulled it 3" forwards, then it walks 2" back, only gaining 1" per shot, not enough to drag it into melee.
You could also use it as a threat extender if they a kind enough to trigger it, or it can act as a deterrent to shooting that will weaken it, rather than kill it outright.
Have you ever used Evasive Action? it seems to me it could be pretty powerful in the right circumstance

It's kind of cute on Thorn. Miss him and he dodges. Hit him, and he evasive action moves.

Its an excellent ability, I use it all the time.
Its best on models such as Jakes 1's Stormclad (or and of Nemo 3's jacks) as they can't be knocked down and can really abuse the range.
I like to cast it on Nemo 3's Lancer if I go out for an early attack like a chain lightning or Force Hammer. If they attack the lancer in melee he's a pain to kill (I often Arcane Shield the Lancer early on for Def 13/15 Arm 21) while he can bounce around whenever he gets shot.

I usually take Arlan for Colossal sitting duty. So it never really comes up.
I can see some utility in it, though.

I am use it on the round 1. After then all he does is Empower. Sometimes I need him to be Repair one warjack though....

I use it on the approach with Nemo 1 to fill up my power tokens when there's no good reason to empower. One of my Kraye lists stacked it with Bullet Dodger to make shooting one of my minutemen a particularly frustrating venture as well.

I pretty much always use it turn 1 and maybe 2. Anytime I don't need to give focus or repair too. It dissuades pot shots at your jack which means less chip damage on the way in!

Put it on Thorn under Jakes1 to be a pain in the ass. I know, waste of a jack and all that but I can't resist. I play Long Gunner, you can't tell me what to do.

Gallant under Blaize. Enemy shoots a model, Gallant shield guards it and advances 2".

I use it every game with haley 2. It helps keep thorn alive into lots of guns. On feat turn many times it is thorns job to engage a bunch of guns. If they back up, taking a free strike, then shoot you, then you get to evasive into combat with stuff to increase your defense.

It seems that it is good to put it on the warjack before charge. Then on the following turn the enemy is hard to remove it by the melee attacks.
