I'm new to Protectorate, but I plan on playing a Durant shooting list in the Exemplar theme. Gaining +2" Deployment and Blessed on your True Sight jacks is appealing, and you can leverage Manifest Destiny once the lines crash.

I think Creators Might, since he wants 7 jacks alive when he feats if possible.
I used Double Vanquishers in my list - fully loaded, with manifest destiny they do a lot of melee work. I also have a Guardian. After that I think just a mix of lights to get me to 7 jacks.
I had a lot of fun when I tried it out.

When I played him I tried to go super tanky and bully the field.

Based on the above suggestions I've arrived at: Sovereign Tristan Durant (Creator's Might) Indictor Reckoner Redeemer Devout Vanquisher x2 Crusader Units/solo's: Min Choir x2 Vassal of Menoth x2 (both free) Wrackx3 (free) This puts us at 75 points exactly. I like the idea of having an arch-node but I'm not a fan of what I have to give up for it. Played a game last night against Trolls (Madrak 2 I believe) and lost. I waited too long to go into melee and lost on Scenario (spread the net). He had a large number of multi box infantry (tough) with granted weapon master. I look forward to getting in some more games and better acclimating to the list, then deciding how to further tweak it. I am debating taking Hierophant instead of the three wracks or a vassal. Thoughts?

Keep the wracks, drop the vassal. Focus efficiency on a caster is better than the vassal most of the time.

Thought: a single castigator isn't necessarily a bad choice. Combust is one of the most effective ways we have of killing DEG reliant assassin models....theres a few merc solos and Khador units that come to mind.

They're cheap heavies, and the easiest way to ruin Tristan2's day is to jam him with high-DEF infantry. Castigators solve this.

With Tristan2's ability to heal, Enliven is pretty good for baiting traps; even if the jack loses it's cortex, heal plus feat means it can still charge in and do some decent damage.

True sight is a false good idea, and since Tristan2 doesn't give a bonus to hit with range weapons, you want melee Jack for him with Manifest Destiny, Inviolable resolve and Hand of the Creator.

Vigilant and templar are here for cover, so they're not the first priority for focus. Mechanik are here to help Tristan and/or repair the jacks outside the control range.

It's not all bad. A lot of those stealth models have atrocious armor, so true sight means that if you shoot with a redeemer one of those shots is probably going to score some kills on that type of model.

Sure, but low ARM means they were likely to die to a scattered blast anyways. True Sight only really matters, imo, vs the rare high-ARM stealth model, and I really don't want to build a list around such an unusual situation. Of course, saying that caused me to remember my last game with Tristan, where I tried a gunline, and was completely screwed by Kaelyssa's feat because I forgot Tristan had field marshal [true sight], so....yeah. Can't benefit from rules you forget, kids.

Having read the book, do you reckon we'll get a character vanquisher for Tristan? Aegis of faith has definitely developed into his own in the book, especially with the device added to him. To me it reads to be a force barrier-like ability. Wild Speculation: I Really Hope we get Aegis of Faith as a Tristan Bonded Character 'jack. I'd like a decent melee, above average gun, and an ability that helps protect our casters against shooting somehow (lore based). It would be cool if he auto healed a bit from a bond with Tristan. if aegis became a shooting jack with shield guard, I'd drop theme and run him with Harbinger.

First, go creator's might unless you plan on taking advantage of the CID change to senguine bond. - Second, put in the Vessel of Judgement.
Explanation:
Bonds of Faith + Hand of the Creator = 2d3 (1d3 on the VoJ) health on pretty much every faction model regardless of if it is living, undead, or construct. BoF also removes buffs and animi, making the only bonus from the Exemplar theme for your current list moot.
Eruption of Faith- same thing as a castigator, only with a much larger base. It also pushes the models 4" away, an easy way to un-jam neighboring models.
Its gun- works the same as e-leap, only it's magical based, allowing you to clean high defensive models and incorporeal models at the same time. It can also reload.
PLUS! It still counts towards free cards ^-^ *high five* - 3rd- several popular casters and lists that you will end up fighting against will be using cloud cover, such as Khador's vent steam and Cryx's poison clouds. If you bother to read battle reports you'll see that several games are decided based simply on the fact that one opponent could not see the other. True Sight, while it would be better if it also let you see through non-obstacle terrain, is true miracle work, please smack the people who attempted to tell you otherwise. - 4th- Use the book. Explanation:
Large based, 5 boxes, can only receive 1 damage per attack even if a POW 21 rolling 4d6 full crits on it with armor piercing (that would 1 shot anything but a few colossals as an FYI). Use it to contest or to block charge lanes.
Lawgiver's Creed + Choir = immunity to pretty much all ranged attacks - 5th- Vessel of Menoth is better than 3 wracks IF it can survive 3+ rounds.

I was looking over Tristan's card today and thinking about the conflicts he has. He has true sight, but no boosts otherwise to ranged weapons, instead having Manifest destiny which ONLY boosts attack and damage in melee. It's a shame he couldn't have had a unique spell for ranged attacks instead of hand of the creator.
