Just want to hear some of your suggestions for synergistic jacks for Caine 3. I hear Chargers and Hunters are good options for him. Any thoughts?

Cyclones and Hurricanes are also pretty darn good with him. Cyclones during feat with calamity can do 2d3 rat9 pow17s. Hurricane has really useful slam guns for assassination.

Slams are not needed for assassination that much as Chargers (my go-to jack) can shoot with boosted Rat 9/11 and we've got two or three (most likely three) Shadow Fire shots Other than that, Hurricane is great for 3Caine. Board control with slams, powerful shooting, huge melee and scenario presence, great infantry clearing (though not as good as Stormwall's) and 120mm base to hide behind. My first and only list (I didn't and wouldn't change anything) for third incarnation of my beloved caster looks like this: 3Caine (Heavy Metal) Squire Hurricane Ace 4 Chargers JWC + Firefly Arlan I've got something like 95% winning rate with it, playing against multiple different factions. Chargers are amazing as we need both quality and quantity of shots. I think that Hunters are not so good as one attack is not enough to abuse feat and Calamity. After errata it's possible thay they will loose AD so threat and positioning will be a lot worse.

Basically, the goal is assassination. Positioning Hunters ahead and behind forests while keeping the chargers mid distance from Caine and the lancers and solos stay back to buff and keep him safe.
On Feat turn, will use Mage sight and shadow fire to open up LOS to enemy caster with hopefully, overwhelming ranged jacks in my arsenal with upped stats due to feat to take down the caster.

Do I need defensive jacks for this or any shooty list in general? I've only played melee Khador lists and this is my first venture into a ranged play style.
The lancers I figured would be a cheap meat shield that could take out a heavie's cortex both when it's being attacked and the other way around, making the enemy unable to use focus to boost melee roll and make it it very hard to hit Caine. I have seen lists that utilize Defenders tho. I guess due to durability and ranged capabilities that benefit from the feat. Thoughts

Also using more than one Lancer is a waste, and a Lancer is only acceptable for a warcaster that need for an Arc Node.
If you want something to shield the others, take the heavy warjacks instead. If you want a cheap shielding models, you better find out for the other factions instead. Else, you may hire Gastone Crosse and put a lots of Talons and/or Bucaneers, but I don't recommend to put so many warjacks on a solo.

So instead of lancers I opted for heavy Cyclones who could also benefit from caines feat.

It's been a while but my caine 3 list is something like,
Caine 3 - grenadier - grenadier - Ace - Squire Trenchers - ua Journeyman - Charger Journeyman - Charger
Then you just wait for the enemy to get in range and it's something like 11 or so shots into the enemy warcaster all pretty well boosted.
