Yeah, I'm looking forward to using the Meat Thresher once I no longer need to fit it on a plane. Agata is one of the models I plan on dropping, though I won't deny that she's a fun little solo. I really wish she were 8 boxes like Maximus. Opponents keep doing 5-6 damage to her

Day three of the convention involved a three round Steamroller. I took my Arkadius list from the Masters and the Midas list I'd been toying with in Iron Arena. Round 1 - Spread the Net I got my opponent from Round Three of the Masters, running Fyanna2 in Ravens and Lylyth3. I dropped Arkadius, he dropped Fyanna, so we were set for a repeat of Day One. Deployment This time I won the starting roll. Set up so that Arkadius could shelter behind the forest near the central zone. He stuck Raptors on each flank again, Fyanna and her battlegroup in the middle, and the Hellmouth in the zone. Pigs Turn 1 Sadly the threat of being shot up by Raptors and dragged in by the Hellmouth prevented me from running too far forward turn one. I did manage to do a point of damage to the Hellmouth though and shot two tentacles off the table with Gun Boar shots. I ran Hutchuck into range of the Hellmouth, figuring he wasn't going to get much done this game and that if my opponent went for him with a tentacle and tried to drag him in it would mean one fewer tentacle jamming me next turn. Arkadius put up Guardian Warbeast and Forced Evolution on the left-flank Road Hog. Picture taken just after my opponent put a tentacle back into play, going for Hutchuck as planned. Legion Turn 1 My opponent went for it with the Hellmouth, hit Hutchuck, and dragged him in for about four points of damage. A Neraph came in, killed Hutchuck, and sprinted back. Fyanna gave it Admonition and the right-flank Raptors Admonition, and Feated. The Raptors on the left shot my Razor Boar off the table. Pigs Turn 2 Arkadius came forward, put Crippling Grasp on the Hellmouth, put Raw Adrenaline on a Gun Boar, and repositioned back. Between Targ, two regular Gun Boar shots, and two Road Hog sprays, the Hellmouth lived on 1 health. Couldn't roll above a 5 for damage. Bleh. Even ran my Mist Speaker in so that Orin could hit him in the back with a Chain Lightning and try to roll a 7 to finish it off, didn't work. Did do two damage to the Mist Speaker though. I killed the last tentacle to minimise the damage the Hellmouth could do and sulked. I mean ended my turn. Two games in a row leaving that thing on 1 health though, seriously. Legion Turn 2 A tentacle spawns, worms into the back arc of my Road Hog on the right, pulls it into the Hellmouth, who chomps on it. My opponent puts in a Neraph, who flubs his damage rolls and only does about a dozen damage total. Two Grotesque Assassins go in and both miss combo strikes. One of the Furied Raptors on the right charges in, the others mill around. The Raptor repositions out of the way and the Sorceress on Hellion gives it a crack. Still the Road Hog survives, now down to 1 health. Given how much he was about to lose if this thing didn't die, my opponent chose to charge Fyanna in to finish it off. She cycles Admonition to herself afterwards, and camps one. On the left a Neraph I hadn't noticed because it was off its base goes in and kills my War Hog, after the Raptors there soften it up. I see an assassination and get super eager and forget to take a picture. Pigs Turn 3 Gun Boars start putting shots into the Neraph standing next to Fyanna, rather than risking shots at her, missing, and having her Dodge. The Witch Doc gives the remaining Road Hog Ghostly before Arkadius activates. Arkadius then Raw Adrenalines a Gun Boar for Targ, casts Psycho Surgery, Feats stuff up the board, and hits Fyanna with a fully boosted Primal Shock. Before anything can try to get Fyanna in melee though, she dies to Targ's Ancillary Attack from the Raw Adrenaline'd Road Hog. I really need to remember that Aggravator is the game winner into Raptors. Also roll better against Hellmouths.

Round 2 - The Pit II My second ever Grymkin game! My opponent had King of Nothing and Dreamer. I dropped Arkadius, he dropped King with: King -Cage Rager -Cage Rager -Cage Rager -Skin and Moans -Skin and Moans -Skin and Moans -Crabbit -Crabbit -Crabbit -Crabbit Eilish Lady Karianna Rose Gremlin Swarm Gremlin Swarm Gremlin Swarm He picked Labyrinth and Sacrifice as his Arcana. Deployment I won the starting roll and opted to go first. We both deployed in largely symmetrical lines. Pigs Turn 1 I ran everything. The Road Hogs used Full Boar and ran. Arkadius spent Fury to heal them and ran. All the running. Grymkin Turn 1 My opponent ran his Warbeasts up. King advanced and laid down four cloud templates to block LOS to his army. I forgot to take a picture. Pigs Turn 2 King on zero Fury out of range of both his Cage Ragers and his Crabbits seemed like easy prey. I knew I'd be hit by Labyrinth, so I gave my left Road Hog Ghostly and Primal and had it run through the obstruction on the left to get behind his battle group so that I'd be able to Frenzy it into King. He activated Labyrinth at that, but I was within 7" of him. Did something similar with the Razor Boar on the right, though it wasn't likely to survive seeing as it'd need to take two free strikes from Skin and Moans to get there. Then Arkadius activated, walked up, and threw two fully boosted Primal Shocks at King and killed him.

Round 3 - Standoff Last game of the day, last game of the convention. I got a player who, funnily enough, I played in round three of this very tournament last year. I dropped Midas into him when Arkadius would have been better, so to keep tradition alive I dropped Midas again. He had a Zaadesh2 beast brick and a Rasheth gunline, both with double Animantarax of course. He dropped Zaadesh: Zaadesh -Gladiator -Sentry -Sentry -Krea -Agonizer -Agonizer -Rhinodon Min Beast Handlers Min Beast Handlers Feralgeist Animantarax Animantarax Deployment He won the starting roll and opted to go first. Animantarax on both flanks, beast brick in the middle. I put my Brigands on the left, most of my other stuff on the right. We both picked Stockpiles. I forgot to take a picture. Skorne Turn 1 My opponent put Inviolable Resolve on the right-hand Animantarax and ran it straight forwards. The left hand side, being the Brigands' Prey target, advanced more cautiously and stayed inside the Krea aura. The rest of his army advanced with a pair of clouds masking them from my guns. Pigs Turn 1 I hit the right-hand Animantarax with Calamity and Hex Blast and shot it off the table, killing it on the final available shot. Stuff ran up to keep the zero camp Midas safe. Brigands walked and Dug In. Skorne Turn 2 The Animantarax on the left shot an Efaarit off the table and missed a lot of shots at my Razorback Crew in the trench. Feralgeist ran to contest my zone. Zaadesh put down three clouds to screen his army. Forgot to take a picture again. Pigs Turn 2 I sent Pendrake in to kill the Feralgeist but he missed. That forced Midas to come forward, Curse it, and nuke it with a boosted Hex Blast. I got three shots into the left-hand Animantarax from the Brigands with prey, doing a few points of damage. Waffled a bit with my infantry and ended up trying to spread out the Valkyries to the flanks way too much. Skorne Turn 3 My opponent decided he couldn't win an attrition game. The Animantarax shot a screening Slaughterhouser dead, Zaadesh put Rush on the Rhinodon and Feated, and it charged Midas. It needed to hit every single attack for the assassination run to work, and naturally it hard rolled a double 5 on the charge attack. Dead Midas. Eh, that was dumb. I needed to position a lot better, and I probably should have just had Midas nuke the Feralgeist without ever sending in Pendrake, since that would have avoided the need for Curse and allowed me to keep him safe. Even so, without that Crit Knockdown the odds of that assassination run working were real low. Anyway, that wrapped up the convention for me. I came away with a new Broken Egg token set from the Iron Arena, first prize in Speedmachine, and a lot of great games under my belt. More than anything, I've been impressed by what Valkyries add to my infantry lists. Never had a chance to play them in CID, and was overseas when they released, so I know I'm coming late to the party on this one. Got a whole lot of different Midas builds I want to test, but I think I'll start with this one until the rest of the new Blindwater stuff releases: Midas -Gun Boar -Gun Boar -Gun Boar -Splatter Boar Max Brigands -Warlord Max Brigands -Warlord Max Bone Grinders Valkyries Valkyries Valkyries Efaarit Scouts (free) Efaarit Scouts (free) Alten Ashley (free)

It ended up at 15 games in three days. I wrote up, what, 11 of them? Not bad I think. Got my first game with triple Valkyries lined up for tomorrow

Team Triple Valk is 3 times better than just Team Valk! That was indeed the plan. Saturate the board with Valkyrie goodness! I can't muck up my Shield Guard positioning if my Shield Guards are everywhere.

Shield Guarding the shield guards is so meta. Just Sturm and Drang things. I am in a really weird place with them. Their tools seem like they should gel with a lot of the new releases (WWFF benefits; Decel on Valkyries, Husks; Soul Slave and TK), but I cannot seem to strike on an idea/strategy that really pulls those disparate pieces together.

I can't add weight of experience yet but Pigtaur! is my next snowflake project now that I'm done getting a winning record with Grayle at the ATC (barely, but count it). Going to try and put together some battle reports for Pigtaur and pigs in general in the Gaston and Azahul style, so thank you for the inspiration! (Naturally not as good as Gaston's - cause no one can battle report like Gaston) (Also, I'm stealing Azahul's Dr A list straight up as the pair, so thank you for that too!)

My personal take is that S&D really relies on the damage output of the beasts he brings to punch through armour reliably, meaning his job is to help facilitate that - while he can do this, its done often through somewhat middling means.

My personal take is that S&D really relies on the damage output of the beasts he brings to punch through armour reliably, meaning his job is to help facilitate that - while he can do this, its done often through somewhat middling means. I would generally concur with that sentiment. I am trying to be super good and just focus on a list pair instead of ADD on all the casters, but if I were to dojo.... Sturm, WWFF -Soul Slave -War Hog -War Hog -Battle Boar -Battle Boar Meat Thresher Dahlia -Skarath Rorsh -Brine Orin Gatorman Husk Gatorman Husk Gatorman Husk Totem Hunter Bone Shrine -This is probably not a final list for him, just my starting dojo based on games played. The gun lights don't work fantastically well with him, as he doesn't really support them beyond the occasional TK and Lucky Shot, which realistically any caster can do. -Polarity Field is typically (not always) best on a huge base, and while the Dracodile seems a strong target for it, when it comes to support and list construction it gets awkward. I have done it with Snapjaw too, Submerge and PF is tricksy, but doesn't cover the real estate that I would like. -Vision on Totem Hunter; he was already a pain in the ass to kill, now he is a...painer in the ass...to kill? -Soul Slave; free TK, free upkeep. This ties in to why I always take Dahlia and Rorsh. I have found that offensively casting TK with Sturm is challenging, and I do not particularly anticipate the Bone Shrines helping in this regard. Thus, I want beasts that are already long threat range, so that I can stack strengths and make them threaten even further. Additionally Skarath can get Prowl which interacts well with the Thresher. -The Husks are the most experimental part of the list and most likely to change. Since the list is beast heavy, I wanted something to round out the infantry clearing ability. Also you can pop them for a pseudo cloud wall, which is of limited utility for the Thresher, truth be told. -Valkyries are intriguing with Decell, but I already have 4 shield guards of Arm 19+, so they feel a bit redundant, at least at this stage of the game. I have also theoried him as the best caster for Slaughterhousers, but...hey open minds right?
