There is a lot of nit-picking going on with this video, and rightfully so.
While some "arteests" would say that physics should not stand in the way of telling a good story, I disagree. When the action gets that "physics be damned" quality about it, the quality goes down. Haley can jump like an Olympics long jumper wearing heavy armor over uneven ground? So can the several-ton steam-powered bone jacks? I didn't know that Slayers could jump on the backs of Ironclads like that!
While that stuff bugs me, I'm disappointed that the steam aspect of the steam-powered warjacks wasn't represented. I'm going to be nice and assume it wasn't represented because computer modelling steam well is not an easy thing to do and their limited budget prevented them from doing it. I'm hoping that it's not because these guys came up with a game that involves steampunk stuff and that THEY HAVE NO DAMN CLUE ABOUT HOW STEAM ENGINES WORK!!!
Visually, it was very nice and was really neat to watch. I would use this video as part of a sales pitch for a movie - something to get the idea of the setting and potential for action across to executives who don't know the setting, would ignore the details, and see the potential in "the big picture." I could see this video bagging $250 million of backing money for a movie. As a video for fans of the setting, technically minded people, and the detail oriented - it's an A- / B+ effort.

Legitimate gripes aside, it wasn't really for the fans of the setting I expect. While they definitely were considered, it looks more like a "Did you watch Lord of the Rings? Then you'll be able to conceptualize what is going on with D&D" kind of deal. That was my take away. It was for those people who haven't necessarily seen anything like this before, as mentioned, and a visualization is a helpful tool.

Anon is right- this video isn't really for current players, they're for the possibly-interested individual who tunes in on the PA stream/any other media and sees the giant robots and guns and goggles and magic booms and starts going "Pls tell me more."

The thing is in my opinion if you show this to a person not acquated top the setting i feel like they'd be confused as to what is going on. I feel my knowledge of the setting helped me understand what was actually happening.
So basically i respectfully disagree

I feel my knowledge of the setting helped me understand what was actually happening. So basically i respectfully disagree Sure! Of course they'd be confused, but then at that point the viewer has two options: A) Go "cool story bro" and go on with their lives, wallets heavier and with a regular sodium intake. B) Go "I don't know what's going on, but I want to know more", look into it and bam, there's the hook. Given option B), there might then be a point where hypothetical viewer would be told "Warcasters can see through their 'jack's eyes," and maybe hypothetical viewer will make the connection and go "Oh, like in that video with Haley!" Then they'd be in a place where you are, and the community has +1 member. As an aside, I've heard that this piece was actually a fan-made video... I have no clue as to the veracity of that statement, however.

Probably false unless Matt Wilson is now a plagiarizer.

Yeah, for all of its faults (which really don't bother me that much) this video is of quality that I would never suspect to be fanmade. It would be a heck of a fan who would make all of this.

I thought it was cool. That is all. Me too. There were some missed opportunities to bring in the "steam" in steampunk, but I'm willing to give credit where it's due. Cool stuff.
