Anyone have some fun Thyron lists that use these guys?
Maybe it's because they are not yet out, but I have not really heard anyone talk about the swordsmen in a Thyron list .....when I rarely here about a Thyron list.
Feat plus cleave seems amazing.
But not really sure what else there would be.
Thanks

Kaelyssa can make them DEF18 vs range. I'd say that's enough to get them across the table in one piece, that's about all she'd do for them though.

Thyron (Defenders of Ios) *Fane Knight Guardian *Banshee *Griffon Fane Knight (Free) Lys Healer Arcanist 2 x Max Swordsmen + CA (Free) 2 x Max Halberdiers + CA In order for this to work the Ret theme will have to make it through CID with the new wording on the "free stuff" rule intact. I sincerely hope it does because it allows you to play something other than "ALL_THE_HALBS" with Defenders of Ios.

I played a match against them a couple weeks ago. The UA is pretty nice for the mini-feat Defensive Strike to help them survive the first charge.

Win condition attrition? Looks fun

Forgive me if I'm wrong but... doesn't cleave resolve before side step? If so, Ret getting some skornergy.
edit: Asked a rules lawyer about it... I was wrong
12. resolve active player effects that trigger after attack is resolved that do not involve making another attack (sidestep) 13 inactive player stuff 14 resolve active player effects that trigger... that involve making an attack(cleave)

I played my list on our livestream last night. It was a fun list. It overwhelmed my opponent with sheer numbers. I don't know how effective it would be in the greater meta but it could probably be playable with a good pair.

We've already recorded Monday's podcast but I might do a short discussion of it for the following week.

Credits to Mike Ireland (The double banshees, all the support pieces, and swordsmen were his idea - basically 60ish points were based off of what I saw him run - the last 15 or so points I filled in). The concept was his idea as well. Just thought I'd share it because it has been really fun playing this list and it has been working.
Idea: Thyron as your front lining bad-ass tanky warcaster. He will literally face tank and lead your army. Cast Storm Rager on yourself in the beginning and upkeep it basically the rest of the game. Cast Assail on one of your Banshees. Thyron just walks up the board to score points/wreck stuff in the face.
Thyrons Support Bubble:
Fane Knight Guardian - +2 Def to Thyron in Melee (bringing him up to Def 17 w/ Riposte). Also grants him Parry/a shield guard. This solves any real issues you would have with Thyron getting Meleed. Def 17 on a warcaster than can hit you back with a weapon master POW 15 is really scary.
Artificer - Force wall. +2 Def against ranged brings Thyron from a DEF 17 to a DEF 19 against shooting. This is necessary, especially since there are so many ways for opponents to debuff def or get more accurate shooting. DEF 19 mitigates a lot of that. Also Force Wall makes units immune to blast (which will protect your Thyron Support bubble from any aoe blast damage)
Lyss Healer - No knock downs (Make sure to keep her back - no need for her to get picked off by a shot to the face). Most people deal with high def by trying to knock the model down.
Void Tracers - Nice to have in the bubble of supports. Works in a few different ways. Punish anyone that is slinging spells into the bubble (2d3 damage every time you target someone thats within 5" will soften the warcaster OR straight up punish units/solos that cast spells). In the games I ran, the void tracers were able to papercut the warcasters over time. Thyron is armor 18 with storm rager and usually camping focus. People will be able to hit him easier with spells but they won't be able to do it without paying a small price. They are also great at going out to control flags/contest. Magic weapons had also helped me in a few of the games.
Rest of the Army: Banshees - I've had a lot of luck with them hanging back a bit and just shooting my slam cannon to soften up/knock down stuff I didnt want right up in my face. Make the opponent spend the extra focus to stand up their warjacks/warbeasts. Slam/break the lines of infantry coming at you. Then in the later turns you get to send in a wailing banshee that is now charging for free and wrecking face.
Swordsmen - Thyron gets a LOTTTT of mileage out of these guys (Even if you dont get the alpha). Pit them up against infantry to get the maximum use out of their cleave. They can clear up high def/low arm infantry like its no ones business under thyrons feat. You can mini feat defensively if your opponent is going to get the alpha or (if you get the alpha) you can charge in, cleave/kill almost a guaranteed 2 under thyrons feat and then mini feat afterwards to make your opponent think twice about retaliation. With sidestep - these guys can get in reallyyy deep and tie things up pretty badly. However, I will say - the swordsmen die easily. Def/Arm 13 makes them easy to hit even with blade shield (and once they are hit - they are most certainly dead). Also watch out for the Aoes.... terrible terrible aoes. Spread them out a bit.
Spears - I have been using them a few different ways depending on what I am facing. Almost always bring Eiryss attachment as an auto-add (AD and repo 3 is really nice. Also having vengeance on eiryss just really sets up assassination vectors very well). Sometimes I will send one or so in early to jam up certain solos/units/warjacks/warbeasts. Def 17 in melee is really hard for certain match ups to deal with. Other times I have gotten a lot of mileage out of keeping them relatively safe until I’m in range to kill off certain pieces that I really want off the board. They can get the job done.
Ghost Snipers – Not sure if they deserve to be in this list. I am still testing out different variations of this list as far as points wise. Had some luck using them to take out support pieces/thinning out units/inflicting 6 points of damage onto heartier things. Still, a total of 6 points that I am willing to invest elsewhere? Possible dropping these guys and adding Ayanna and Holt? Not sure.
Arcanists – don’t need 3. It’s nice to have but 2 will suffice for what you probably want to get done. 3 just lets Thyron camp an additional focus. Possible drop it down to 2 and use the points elsewhere.

I have a very similar list to adakai, but with a few modifications. I've got a jack marshal'd Hydra, because with Assail it charges for free and hits like a damn truck (6 POW 19's and a headbutt) and with the Scyir's drive, it goes hella far. I haven't found the voidtracers too helpful (though you can drop my Scyir for them and marshal the Hydra on the Artificer if you'd prefer) so I cut those and the snipers for the Hydra. Also had to downgrade the Banshee to a Sphinx for points, but a second cheap beater is never a bad thing to have.
Thyron, Sword of Truth - WJ: +27 - Fane Knight Guardian - PC: 4 - Banshee - PC: 18 (Battlegroup Points Used: 18) - Sphinx - PC: 13 (Battlegroup Points Used: 9)

This list looks fun, but what's the win condition? Attrition until Thyron kills caster? It is a very fun list! It is actually competitive on a few different levels. It attritions really well/definitely does have caster kill potential. However, it is also pretty good at scenario. Thyron just slow marches up the field and can clear/dominate zones. You have void tracers/ghost snipers to control flags/contest zones to prevent scoring. In the 6 or 7 games I've played - I have won 2 on scenario and 3 on assassination. It's an all around really fun list to play. I will say the swordsmen have either done a LOT of work for me or very little. In either case, I have enjoyed all the games and its so much fun leading your army with your warcaster. Something that feels really foreign to all ret (and to most factions in general.. haha)
