Actually your opponent cheated you, he cannot gain souls from models killed by friendly attacks. He actually can, it's a little unintuitive but Direct Spirits allows him to bypass the Reclaim restrictions.

Finally some good news. Played this: Lord Ghyrrshyld, the Forgiven - WJ: +28 - Fane Knight Guardian - PC: 4 - Hyperion - PC: 36 (Battlegroup Points Used: 28) - Manticore - PC: 14 - Manticore - PC: 14 - Chimera - PC: 8 Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2 Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2 Ryssovass Defenders - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16 House Shyeel Arcanists - Leader & 2 Grunts: 7 Into Aiakos2 -Stalker -Stalker -Arc node of some sort -Stalker -Kyribdis Withershadow Min mechanithralls -3 brutes Min mechanithralls -3 brutes Machine wraith 2 sirens In the theme that gives a Mechanithrall unit Ambush. We played the SR2017 scenario with two circles and two flags. I went first and put the Hyperions central with Ryssovass on my left and both Manticores on my right. Frost Fild went on the Ryss. He ended up deploying Deathjack and one unit of Thralls opposite the Ryss but ended up running DJ to my right turn 1. Turn 2 I dropped a pair of Covering Fire templates to block off parts of the right zone and keep the Withershadow and Machine Wraith out. Ryssovass moved up to to the zone in triangles and Hyperion took a potshit that killed a couple Thralls and I feated. He brought in Thralls on my right that ran up to threaten then feated and charged Deathjack in to my pair of Manticores. I got super lucky and he flubbed a lot of rolls so only one Manticore died and he ended up with a stationary DJ and stalker. On my left Kyribdis killed a three Ryssovass between assault and melee and me making some Tough rolls. Ghyrrshyld and the Guardian killed the stationary stalker, Manticore killed DJ and toed the zone. Ryss killed Kyribdis and saved me from continuing to misspell his name in this report. Hyperion killed the remaining mcthralls on my left, leaving only the brutes. Right side Thralls then killed the Manticore and brutes and a Siren spray killed another 3 or 4 Ryss. He scored on my right zone and his flag. The game wound down to Hyperion holding the right zone against Withershadow, Thralls, and the arc node, Chimera in the center contesting flags, and all the Ryssovass dead. I thought the game ended on turn 6 so I put everything I had into clearing the right zone and ended up at 3 to 4 CP with only a single brute, siren, and aiakos left. I figured that was it but then my opponent went for an assassination run that I didn't realize he needed. He tried to seduce the Guardian out of the zone but Ghyrrshyld was camping 4 and cancelled it. Aiakos needed to boost to hit 17 and didn't manage to land enough attacks so he surrendered with no camp in melee with Ghyrrshyld. While this was easily the best game I've had with Ghyrrshyld I have to partially attribute that to luck; Deathjack should have been able to kill or heavily main both Manticores with Scything Touch in play and just blew his attack rolls. That said I may have still been okay; I left the Chimera nearby so that he would still be in range to freeze DJ in his likely landing zone in the hopes that DJ would have run out of attacks by then. Hyperion would have then been able to finish him off instead of killing three mcthralls. I definitely love Hyperion with Ghyrrshyld. He's a huge Arcane Vortex host and can protect a lot of models, plus he makes good use of Frost Field. The other star was the Guardian who not only saved his master's bacon in the end but wracked up the finishing blow on both stalkers (one frozen and one knocked down by a Chimera headbutt) and one-shot a Brute Thrall. This guy is just fantastic and at the end my opponent was trying to figure out how to get rid of Guard Dog and just didn't have any good options thanks to Vortex and his +4 ARM. Ghyrrshyld himself basically spent all game cycling Frost Field and Ghostly. I cast one Hex Blast to kill the Machine Wraith and cast Revive twice to try to swing the attrition war back in favor of the Ryssovass. That said, those are all good buffs to be able to hand out and with the Guardian I felt safer keeping him forward where he could occasionally make melee attacks, something he's quite good at. I want to reexamine the Manticores. I feel like every game they get one round of Covering Fire which is either super effective or doesn't matter and then get stuck in melee. I might swap them for a second infantry unit (Ellowuyr maybe?) and Aelyth or try another jack loadout.

Thanks for keeping up the battle reports. I have heard of a lot of people enjoying double Banshee with him. How did you enjoy the House Shyeel Arcanists?

I liked them a lot more than I expected. The longer range on Empower let me keep my back lines a lot less jammed up with support which helped order of activation once Ghyrrshyld needed to start moving in late-game. Only one of them did any repairing but with the three of them glued to Hyperion's ass I could have done a lot more had I needed to. Luckily both the enemy heavies died before Hype entered the fight.

Very nice, do you feel that at PC 7 they are appropriate as well?

I think it's okay? I don't know that 6 would have been too cheap but 7 is tolerable. I've been liking 1 unit + 2 solos whenever I have more than two heavies just so my caster doesn't have to worry about it. It's a lot of support points but it's damn effective.
Also, forgot I took some pictures of the last game, though I don't have one from top of 6 because I thought I had already lost.

Played a couple games with a buddy on Saturday, one of them was Mr. Shyld. Ghyrrshyld -Fane Knight Guardian -Hyperion -Banshee -Chimera Arcanist Arcanist Shyeel Arcanists Ryssovass Defenders Spears of Scyrah -Soulless vs Abby 2 - Oracles of Annihilation -Proteus -Carnivian -Scythean -Seraph -Neraph -Raek Shepard Shepard Forsaken Forsaken Spell Martyr Spell Martyr Blackfrost Shard I lost the roll and went first. Hype to the left with Spears, Banshee center, Ryssovass to the right. Positioning to threaten zones, put Hyperion behind the forest, put Frost Field on the Ryssovass, and put a Mage Sight as far up as I could in front of Hype to dissuade Abby from putting any beasts that far up. Carnivian ran up opposite Hyperion while a Raek circled across from the Spears. Proteus and Abby hid behind a central wall. Turn 2 I decided to try to shoot the Carni dead. Dropped Mage Sight and moved up so I could get the Carnivian in it and feated. Arcanists filled up the big guy and the Banshee. Banshee knocked the beast down and Hyperion unloaded on it. Sadly Hyperion rolled 1 for both of his Thresher cannon shots and left the Carnivian with about 10 health. The leader of the Spears had a charge lane and left the Carni limping but alive. One of the other Spears ran to engage the Raek and the third ran to the center of the zone. Ryssovass ran to engage the Neraph and spread out to avoid the Scythean the best they could. Abby started by casting her heal and feating, then killing a couple Ryssovass to free up Proteus. She forgot to cast the Scythean's animus so she wasted an attack on a Tough Nyss and ended up camping nothing. Neraph killed one of the jamming Ryssovass but Tough saved me again and one stayed on his feet; my opponent forgot Neraphs can Sprint now and the beast ended up frozen. The Carnivian got Slipstream'd backward so that it could get the charge off on the Spear leader and sprayed her down, the Raek jumped behind the member engaging it and killed her, and the Blackfrost Shard killed the third. Scythean cast it's animus and charged, killing three Ryssovass. Proteus charged and killed the Banshee. I considered Reviving Spears but decided I needed the Focus. Ghyrrshyld dropped Frost Field and Mage Sight and charged the Scythean. He hit, freezing the beast, and bought a second attack against Proteus to freeze him as well. He then hit the Scythean 3 more times leaving it at 2 health and camped 3. Arcanists filled up Hyperion and gave it Concentrated Power and it charged Proteus. Despite Bracer and Unyielding the big guy managed to finish the job with a Focus to spare. Unfortunately I forgot to put Hyperion in the zone to contest. Ryssovass charged, killing the Neraph in two hits and finishing off the Scythean. Unfortunately I had no attacks left to clear the solos in the zone to score. With my opponent up points I was in trouble. He charged the Carnivean into Hyperion and put some hurt on without killing it, then charged Ghyrrshyld with the Seraph. He boosted his charge attack and got the Critical Poison and rolled high, taking Ghyrrshyld down by 9 damage after spending a Focus. He boosted his second attack and got a Critical again and rolled high again, leaving me on 1 health. He also managed to clear out my left zone and score with the Blackfrost. At this point i was down 3 CP to 0 and decided I had to go for assassination. Hyperion got Focus from Arcanists and killed the jamming Seraph and put some hurt on the Carnivean. Unfortunately that put Abby up to a sizable camp but I hoped that with only the wounded Carni to transfer to I'd be able to put in enough damage to blow through it. Ghyrrshyld cast Ghost Walk on himself and charged Abby over the wall. I boosted by first attack and hit, freezing the crazy dragon lady. Unfortunately the dice were not with me and at Dice -1 damage I rolled a lot of 5s and 6s. In addition I had forgotten about the Raek, which remained undamaged and (thanks to Long Leash) well within Control range. Ghyrrshyld ran out of Focus after burning through 3 of Abby's Fury and my opponent won on CPs on my turn. I told my opponent at the beginning of the game that this didn't feel like a good matchup and I was right. Ghyrrshyld just doesn't have the tools to deal with that many high-accuracy, high POW attacks (some of which can ignore Tough) that have longer threat ranges than him. Still, it was good to see how much he can deal with it if need-be. This is the second game that, thanks to the Guardian, I've felt comfortable having Ghyrrshyld closer to the action and making attacks and I'm starting to enjoy playing him that way. His sword is really high POW and the auto-Stationary acts as the ultimate accuracy buff for the rest of his army to clear stuff he doesn't/can't kill himself. I'm still liking the colossal with him, I might try dropping the second heavy for some more solos and maybe a Griffon just as a harasser. I continue to be a big fan of Ryssovass but what I think I need is some good combat solos like Aelyth or one of the Eiryss'. This is the, what, sixth game with Spears of Scyrah where they've gotten wiped after making one or less attacks. I'm not sure if I'm using them wrong or if my meta just has too many boostable attacks but their DEF 17 never seems to save them since only one hit ever has to get through. I'm thinking of dropping them from lists entirely until I start seeing less boostable attacks and MAT fixers.

Since my first game was into an anti-infantry list, we decided to mix things up and play against an infantry list instead. I still played with all my new toys.
Ghyrrshyld - Sphinx - Hydra - Hemera full Ellowuyr Swordsmen + CA + Soulless full Dawnguard Sentinels + CA + Soulless Spears of Scyrah + Soulless 2 Arcanists
Constance Blaize - Hunter - Hunter - Gallant 2 full Precursor Knights + CAs full Sword Knights + CA Harlan Versh Gobber Tinker
The fight ended up being Ellowuyr Swordsmen, Spears of Scyrah, and Hemera on my right against the two Hunters, a unit of Pedrcursor Knights and the Sword Knights, and Harlan. On my left, the Sphinx and the Sentinels faced down the other unit of Precursor Knights and Gallant.
Cygnar went first ad ran up without Shield Wall due to my lack of shooting. I countered by running the Swordsmen up and mini-feating to discourage charges. Normally I would have put Frost Field on them but Harlan Versh loves Upkeeps, so I decided against it. The plan worked and my Swordsmen got the initial charge next turn with Frost Field, chewing through as much as I could (Parry helps). I also feated and tried to get as many CP as possible, which was significant (planting an Arcanist next to my Hydra on a friendly flag). On the left, my Sentinels charged two Precursor Knights and mini-feated. The counter-punch from Swordsmen and Precursor Knights swung the battle in Cygnar's favour on my right side but my Sentinels survived since my opponent was reluctant to use the Precursor Knight's mini-feat to go through my Sentinels on mini-feat due to the two 'jacks on that side. Constance feated. To make a long story short, I cleared things on the left and eventually won on CP although Cygnar had obliterated my right flank (4 charging Precursor Knights on mini-feat after a Hunter shot vaporised Hemera). My opponent swore it was because of the Arcanist I had managed to camp on a flag.
Evaluation: The army works decently. I did not get to use Arcane Vortex as much as I had planned on the Hydra, so I feel tempted to swap it and the Sphinx for a couple of Manticores. Doing so will allow me to use Covering Fire to further direct enemy infantry and screen my expensive elite units. I think it might be decent into Cryx or similar (although Ghost Fleet might still shoot Ghyrrshyld to death, so it is possible I have to think in a completely different direction). Mage Sight made the opposing 'caster very paranoid and may have prevented my opponent from scoring 2 CP by bringing Constance a bit up the table.

I think he'd be ok into ghost fleet, as he can arcane vortex away any spells that would make him easy to hit.

That was pretty sweet. I thought that you were screwed for sure after that initial spitter shot wiped so many out That clever use of ghostly made me interested in Gore. PS. Love all your battreps, I enjoyed even the Menoth ones in mk2.

Good video report. I got to try g4 out last night myself and he is SUCH a focus whore. He wants that arcanist unit out ther so much to aid him I found (and I am glad I ran them).
