@Michael, I'm so looking forward to read the rest
I know that there is not necessarily any connection between canon and game mechanics. Thus, the impression we get of Man-o-Wars do not necessarily map into to game. Just think about: "...their muskets and elk-horns bows resemble antiques... they are no less deadly... Trackers and deadly hunters... [they] trust in nothing save their own abilities..." and "... have earned them a fearsome reputation among the enemies of the Motherland."
Who would have guessed that this maps to RAT 4, POW 10 and no ambush until recently?
Anyway, I could be persuaded to see the point of ARM 25 as a bit over the top. However, if we disregard Iron Flesh, it is "only" ARM 23 (assuming that they actually had a shield).
I'll stick to my gut feeling. It feels right. They can actually survive moving up the field; which currently is quite fast thanks to the improved version of Shield Guard.
It is also worth noticing that onces they actually engage something, they will most likely drop out of shield wall and down to ARM 19 (again, if they actually had a shield). This makes them easily killable by most (slightly) above average infantry. There is a lot of P+S 10-12 weapon master out there (and many can easily swing ARM or P+S with quite a few points). Only three (slightly) above average infantry is required to kill a Man-o-War; and hitting them is trivial, even for a blind guy.
Just to get back to canon: "The Man-O-War suit of armor is a miraculous creation imbuing the solider with almost the same strength, durability, and protection against the elements as a warjack." Well, perhaps, depending on which version of 'almost' and 'warjack' we talk about.
Yet, I'm not complaining. Shocktroopers is actually at a good place right now. They would just feel right with an actual shield
Oh, and I think we can do cool stuff with Sorscha3 and her friends outside Armored Korps. I'm working in it.
