Hello LormaHordes, I've been painting minis on off for about a year when I first started wargaming. I've found my schedule for painting to be atrocious and have not been able to get a lot done. Most recently I have decided to get more done, increase my experience and tackle new skills. I just wanted to use the forum as a source for feedback (positive/negative) and another place for keeping my painting motivation up. By all means I know I've made atrocious color choices or flubbed a brush stroke in the past for a mini so let me have it. Here is the latest thing that I've done, moving forward I'll get a more photo appropriate background and composition. Edit: Photo to more appropriate size

Welcome, brother from the Motherland! Painters (even if they paint dirty swans) are always welcome.
(one quick suggestion: crop your photos before uploading)

Hey Fanguard, I tried to use the forum help functions but it wasn't very helpful. You seem to post a lot of creative content here with photos whats the best way to get the photos the size ya want before bringing it to the forum. In addition, is there a specific file you use to upload because I was only able to get links to work for the photos. It said all of my small files were above the memory limit and when I checked my photos file size they weren't.

You'll need to use an image editor before you upload the photo. If you're taking pictures with your phone, you can probably crop right from the image gallery app. And you'll need to host the images somewhere else - I set up a free Wordpress blog and just link to the images stored there.

I feel about saying this, but it's a little hard for me to give useful feedback in this instance because I personally dislike red & green colour schemes.
What I can say is that your work is very neat, you have a subtle but nice glow effect on the axe, and I like your base. I quite like the bold eyes. I would like to see more contrast overall; some more agressive shading and highlighting would add a lot.

I agree I Feel torn about the red-green scheme as well, but I wanted to try and work past it. I really like the 5th border legion look though, so maybe my red-green dislike isn't as strong. The end goal is that it doesn't remind you of Christmas so much and that it appears to be more of a military color choice. I may need to continue to peruse the panzer ace colors a bit more thoroughly in an attempt to avoid that more. It does need some finessing, but it's a start on the miniature painting motivation train.
Thanks for all feedback so far, and I'll make sure to get the picturing posting done in a more forum considerate manner. (Thanks fanguard will be looking to follow through on you suggestions before next mini post)

I definitely think the 5th legion look can work. I'd Strongly suggest you look at other people's work for inspiration. iwargame.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/khador_koldun_lord1.jpgI think right now your dude's robe is too saturated, and the lower flap being the same green means it sort of blends together. Had a long day, hope I'll have something smarter to say tomorrow.

Shmeep, and everyone else thanks for ya'lls input so far I just wanted to share a resource for color theory, that I found really insightful. I feel like its super obvious but I woudln't know what to begin to properly call it. This guy does a nice succinct explanation of basically how to approach the idea (rule of thirds) and it highlights where I messed up on color placement, (unlike Shmeeps source @ the iwargame link) aside from the contrast obviously needed for the colors I did place. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnmjcoILc3MI think it's a big thing I have struggled with the minis I have done so far and maybe a lot of beginning mini painters struggle with it so I thought I would share. If this is off topic let me know. I know sites like Cool Mini or Not, Discord Mini painting server, and others have this kinda information buried in spots on threads. I thought I would add this kinda of mini-painting life lesson to the thread as I learned too to share with others.

As long as it's related to miniature painting, prep, assembly, in practice or in theory, it's fine. If you look at my thread, half of it is my trains of thought and various theorycrafting, the rest is either posting pics or asking for help with equipment. and LMH is barely moderated to begin with. Go nuts.
