as a belgium player i naturally get alot of info passed around about the warmahordes WTC.
and i must admit i noticed a perculiar thing about menoth.
every faithfull masses list had 3 free units of iniates, with the only exceptions beeing 2 initiate units and a UA for the idrians or vilmon.
with all the options we have for freebies, including double vassals/reclaimers/mechaniks, are the initiates just that insanely good that they are a mandatory auto include?

9 shield guards that can be kept alive beyond being frustrating and are tanky are a lot better than a lot of options that die to a decent gun.
They don't have the closing power of most units, but they make sure you can survive almost any non-melee assassination run.

I don't play Protectorate, but as someone that faces Initiates of the Wall often enough, I feel that 2+ units are mandatory especially with Harbinger and there are other casters out there that can make them tick. Using the third Requisition on them might be pushing it though as there are other good choices you may want to add to your list at that point. Casters that have powerful unit buffs might not want as many of them, because they don't scale well, but often those casters will simply play in another theme anyway.
Initiates don't have stellar output, but they can get a job done and they are insanely survivable and difficult to dislodge. And then they are all ARM 21 shield guards to boot. They are worth every point of the 7 they cost, so they are by far the best requisition option available to the theme, which makes it only logical that you see them so often.

I think they are way too good as freebes. If you would have to pay for them, then it would be differend. But getting them for free is insane. As are their defense stats, I am hugely surprised they have def13 and set defence, tactitian, shield guard, 5 boxes, pretty much always arm21 (and hardly any way to get them out of base contact). Combined with any recursin or Harby try checwing through that!
They should either be a little more expensive / not free in Theme, have no boxes, be def12, have arm+2 bonus per guy. Just one of the things. They aren't super broken, just a little too good combined with being free .

The initiates under Harbinger pose a problem that requires a solution. If you didn't bring that solution, you will have a bad time. This is also probably the best source of free points in the game.

I love them in FM with the menite archons. It's a game where you might actually decide to put one out of formation ready to shield guard, to get righteous vengence off on the archon. Have just ordered mine and here in the UK nobody has them in stock... Looks like I'll be waiting 6 weeks  |
