Several folks started playing Jarl in SotN because of the free upkeeps. I played a few games and thought it was pretty fun.
Why not look at Jarl in PoD for similar reasons? You get swift hunter for the battlegroup (mauler, bomber, bouncer and maybe a few bashers?), plus you can start with quicken, tactical supremacy and weald secrets on some of your runeshapers to help get them into zones and dug in. Throw in the knot, some whelps and janissa for now. Swap in a dhunia archon later on.
I'll have to add this to my list to test out once I have a free weekend or two.

I played jarl in PoD long ago prior to SotN being released and thought it was pretty fun. Not a big fan of runeshapers but his spells aren't bad on your beasts. a quickened brawler or mulg can be pretty scary to the opponent and his feat is pretty decent at delivering his army.
Until the tehempocalypse the issue was board pressence on scenario. A list built around PoD might still have that issues but definitely has more options now. Could probably build some self sufficent options like gator husks and croaks or brigands. Also might even be worth bringing boomhowler1 given his upkeeps and partisan now.

I could see quickened Boomhowlers being a thing. I just hate to give up Boomhowler2 and his reposition fell call.

Problem with PoD is that it helps first turn and that is not the biggest problem of Jarl. Jarl needs free upkeeps on later turns so he can use magic bullet and his guns. PoD will give him space on 1B, but clever opponent wont give you good magic bullets anyway.

Why wouldn't I do this in SotN, get similar bonuses, better unit/solo options, and not have to beat my head against the PoD wall? Do you want Mulg really bad? Because that is the only reason I can see playing PoD after the update. Just do a beast list in any other theme, they all do it better (my own opinion of course, counts for basically nothing).

I think getting puppet master would be really good as well! Jarl and two Bombers would appreciate! But SoTN just has a lot of advantages too.

I don't think you're wrong, although mulg is pretty fantastic. I still need to put them on the board but runeshapers don't seem to shine enough to want them. the dhunian knot is good as is janissa but I'm not sure they're sufficient to encourage one to play in PoD with Jarl, particularly because puppet master is available through merc/minion options.

The problem with jarl in PoD is not Jarl. Its PoD. The Dhunian Archon might change things (we dont know what she does yet) but PoD does not function in a steamroller environment. You can include men nions to help, but why not play a theme with better units and go beast heavy then?
