I like the look of Vlad3, I'm just not sure how to run him. Would he viable running the Iron Fangs theme with double Uhlans and him having grolars for that knockdown. Has anyone had good luck with running any Vlad3 lists?

Tried him once, was disapointed, Vlad1 runs jacks better than he does, Vlad2 runs infantry better than he does, he seems overshadowed by our other casters. Also he probably has the worst feat in Khador, if not in the game. He has to pull his weight with Hand of fate and dash.

He's an All Gimmick Caster.

His feat is amazing for Vlad's personal threat and results in some fun shenanigams with Flashing Blade and impact attacks. Though he's not as good since ride-by attacks got removed. I loved him in theme in Mk2. Ran him with one of all the cavalry and Drago, have yet to use him in Mk3 but double Uhlans sounds fun. Markov + Uhlans + Dash are crazy fun.

His theme used to be interesting for the double ulhan, but now that they are standard, Vlad3 doens't have that novelty anymore. His feat can make Vlad3 do some stuff, but I don't like that it entirely depends on your oponent placement and list to be effective. Overall Vlad3 is the Vlad I like the least and I think he's the less powerful of the 3 by a faire margin, what he does, the other Vlads do better.

Id say being able to pull off a second cavalry charge is less impressive then just doing more damage on yoru first one =P

I actually like him a fair bit in SR2017. I have been generally playing against more dudes lately and his feat has some really good mileage in those match ups. Windwall is really hit or miss though. I would say he's a solid caster in the right match ups. The question is how common those become. Zaal2, Double Sentinel, Satyxis, Idrians, Mercs, and some more corner cases are pretty fine to play into in my experience. But I don't think he's always the best choice or anything. Try him out in legion of steel. It's pretty good.

Well, he's our cavalry caster. So you usually want two units of Uhlans.
I think people are under-rating the strength of Spd 9 Uhlans that ignore free strikes. The problem is of course having stuff that can trigger sprint in a lot of match ups, which greatly varies the milage you get out of the feat. Though they still get to reposition 5" when you add side step.
If you're running in Legion then you will have Precision Strikes on your Uhlans. So even if you can't trigger sprint and you didn't get the kill, your charge targets should have the important systems knocked out. A jack that is missing its cortex and was almost certainly knocked down can do nothing to your Uhlans that just walked 5" away from it.
Vlad3 himself is a melee monster, but again needs LIVING models he can kill to stack up his Blood Boon to be seriously terrifying.
So, he does a lot of good stuff but a lot of his good stuff is dependant on having models to kill. Whereas you can take Vlad2 and he will be good in to pretty much ANY match up.

Cavalry charges aren't that powerful (because cavalry are only warriors, not boostable high P+S jacks). They're good, but usually not game-ending against either AMR/Box skew (not hard enoug hitting) or horde (not enough attacks) lists. Cavalry become much more significant in game if you can reliably get two charges out of them.

I'm going to play a few games with Vlad3 in the coming week. I am really torn between being in Legion or being out of theme with access to the gun carriage and drakhuns theres a lot of reason to consider either.
I think in a general sense if the Gun Carriage survives CID as it is now I am going to be playing 2xGun Carriage and 2x Max Uhlans. It's pretty scary.

Yeah I think the Vlad3 double GC, double Uhlans list has potential. Or you could go single GC, double Drakhun, double Uhlans.
Kinda want to fit a Kovnik in for the precision strikes though...

I'm a huge fan of him as well, but I haven't dropped him on the table as much in Mark 3. If you run him with all the cav, we have speed and board control that is really hard to beat. I haven't tried him yet with anything that isn't cav or a warjack.

A list that comes to mind might be double uhlan, double drakhun and double kodiak.

He was my favorite Khador 'caster in MKII, really much stronger than the internet would give him credit for. But, a lot of that was because he could predate on a dudespam meta. No dudespam, he loses a lot of his personal destructive power. Not sure what to do with him now.

Well, considering the amount of dudespam being brought back, I guess the answer is put him on the table and see how he does!
