I am not sure how I want to paint it, but pretty sure I want to go with a more naturalistic scheme than the studio. One thought that popped in my head is to do a sort of reverse azimuthal prime, with the aim of it looking like it is night and big K is being illuminated by spotlights.
If I don't go that way I think I'll be googling octopus pictures for a good while unless someone has a cool idea.
Oh, and if anybody has both big k and a swamp horror, I would love to know if they are remotely size compatible. I would be love to get red of the legs.

Realistic you say? So I take it a baseball cap and catcher mitt to go with his bat are out of the question?

No pictures, but I don’t think the Swamp Horror bits are going to look good against Krackenoctus. The scale is off.

Check out Cthulhu art. There's lots of attacking city, spotlights, night time type stuff out there.

That is pretty entertaining, soulsamurai, but I was thinking more of painting it to look like a mutated version of a particular breed of real octopus. The blue-ringed octopus looks amazing, but I don't know how I would make rings that vibrant. I also liked the Caribbean reef octopus, but with mimicry being such a big part of their kit I feel like I could paint it to match the colors and patterns of the city maps, too...

Just googled blue ring octopus, that's very cool. It looks doable to me; basecoar yellow, apply dark blue rings, paint successively thinner rings in lighter blues?

That's amazing! For either one I think the secret to making the blue "pop" is to transition through a very dark blue, almost black, between the light blue and the main orange/brown colour. Surrounding light areas with dark areas make them look brighter.

Would p3 coal black be dark enough or should I mix it with a real black?. Thank you all for your advice and research on my behalf. By the way!

Doopsie, I had seen that picture but not looked at it enough. K does indeed have plenty of suckers for it, too. I wonder if an undercoat of a shiny metallic paint would help make the suckers look brighter still?

I am also tempted my green stuff world's color shift line. I haven't had time to look in detail, but they use flakes to shift color based on viewing angle.

I haven't used many PP paints, but going by PP's colour charts, Coal Black looks like a dark teal rather than a dark pure blue? I think Exile Blue might be a better choice?
By the way, you might want to blend through purple if you're blending to a reddish shade like an orange or brown. For example here's my Koldun Lord:
It's not a great photo, but hopefully it gets the idea across? Basically I went from bright red to dark red to dark purple to dark blue to light blue to white. In your case you probably don't want to go all the way to pure white, unless you want the rings to look like they're actually glowing. By the way, I relied entirely on drybrushes to blend between colours on this model; you can read more here.

That was one of the models that started me hunting for your content! I will definitely have to go read that article again.

Well... I drew a picture of him in pencil? Right after school and I left for a three week seminar which finished tomorrow. I will be getting to work on either him or my ambitious base idea (ice and snow drifts with bits of other models sticking out) for the glacier King in the next two weeks.
