I began playing in the mid-to-late MKII days and stopped playing shortly after MKIII was released for various non-game reasons (work, family responsibilities, etc.). Like a lot of gamers, I kept buying models in the hopes that I would miraculously find spare time to play. I know, a little unrealistic but what can I say. A man needs a hobby.
I have a trip planned in four months to get together with some old friends for a long weekend of gaming. We are going to primarily play a ton of Warmachine/Hordes. So, I'm completely out of practice and I am out of touch with the Khador faction. I plan on playing some local games to get some reps in but I need some help focusing my efforts to a few lists. Ideally, I would like to come up with a few lists to practice to play during the Warmachine weekend. This is where I need some help. Should I come up with one list per theme? Should I avoid a particular theme altogether? Assuming access to the full stable of Khador models and a lot of Merc models, what do you all suggest? Thanks in advance for any help.
Armored Corps Jaws of the Wolf Legion of Steel Winter Guard Kommand Wolves of Winter

Welcome back.
Legion of Steel is generally seen as subpar at the moment, so probably best to avoid that. All the other themes have good lists.
2 questions:
1 - Any preferences in play style? For example, I don't like running my casters into the enemy list most of the time, so I don't like playing Butcher3. Some people on here really like him.
2 - How much space do you have for transport? Some Winter Guard lists have lots of models, similarly Wolves of Winter. Armored Corps and Jaws tend to be easier to transport.

Good questions.
1) I usually play conservatively at my own detriment because I'm afraid of a round two caster kill. That is largely due to my own lack of experience. I just played a game (Irusk2 with Winter Guard Kommand) and that was a grindy attrition game. With that said, I really want to try my hand at a more dominant and active caster like Butcher3 too. Long story short, I guess I don't a preference for this trip. Need to try new things.
2) Space is not a concern. I am driving to the rental house so I can pack any/all of my models.

That's a tricky one! If we were speaking competitively, you'd be told to cross Legion of Steel from the list. But you're just playing your friends, so you should really just play what you think will be fun.
Of course, that's not really very useful advice for narrowing down your options! I would say that Armoured Corps is by far and away our most fun theme. It's the only infantry theme that has access to both shooting and melee options, and because it has so many support options it is highly tailorable. The theme doesn't need anything in particular from a warcaster, which means you can run a very wide range of them in theme.
So if you had to pick one theme, I would 100% say Armoured Corps.
All our other themes are a little cookie-cutter. Wolves is just X amount of Doom Reavers with seasoning, Legion of Steel is just Pikemen. Jaws has a surprisingly flexible selection of models, but gets no benefit from running most of them and thus tends to end up as JacksJacksJacksJacksJacks.
Winter Guard Kommand is the other option; whilst the troops are all ranged, the theme benefits are actually excellent for jacks. It allows you to run something of a combined force. I personally view WGK as a better jack theme than our actual jack theme. Also, if you have one, I'm told Gun Carriage = Fun Carriage.
So if I had to pick two themes for max enjoyment, I'd go Armoured Corps and Winter Guard Kommand.

We are going to pick two lists per day and play with those. That will allow different lists for the following days so I'm not stuck on only two lists for the weekend. I'm trying to impose some limits between now and the event so I can actually practice. Nothing worse than switching lists every time when you are trying to learn/re-learn the game.
I actually played my first game with Armored Corps a few weeks ago. Below is the list:
Theme: Armored Corps 3 / 3 Free Cards 74 / 75 Army
Orsus Zoktavir, The Butcher of Khardov - WJ: +28 - Kodiak - PC: 13 (Battlegroup Points Used: 13) - Ruin - PC: 17 (Battlegroup Points Used: 15)
Man-O-War Strike Tanker - PC: 5 Man-O-War Strike Tanker - PC: 5 Man-O-War Suppression Tanker - PC: 0 Man-O-War Suppression Tanker - PC: 0 Man-O-War Kovnik - PC: 4
Kommandant Atanas Arconovich & Standard - Arconovich & Standard Bearer: 7 Man-O-War Bombardiers - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 - Man-O-War Bombardier Officer - PC: 5 Man-O-War Demolition Corps - Leader & 4 Grunts: 14 - Sergeant Dragos Dragadovich - PC: 0 Man-O-War Shocktroopers - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16

Some thoughts:
Winter Guard Kommand:
Vlad1
- Marauder
- Marauder
-Juggernaut
-Greylord Adjunct
Max WG Infantry + UA
Min WG Rifles + 3 rockets
Mortar (free)
Mortar (free)
Gun Carriage
Sorscha0
- Marauder
Kovnik Joe
Vlad1 buffs everything, and you have potential 14" threat range on probably two of his jacks on feat turn. The Gun Carriage is great with him, and the Adjunct is also really nice with it if you run into a reasonable amount of incorporeal. WG Infantry keep Vlad safe from shooting and once in range are good contributors (medium most infantry does not like 2 man CRAs under S&P). It's nicely flexible and I will play it into most things. Not an easy win button, but has game into lots of lists. Struggles against lists with lots of heavies, especially if they can close the distance (the Gun Carriage AoEs help here).
I find it way more interesting to play than lots of rockets, and is more balanced if you run into a shooting counter.
Armored Corps
Irusk1
-Victor
-Adjunct
Max MoW Shocktroopers + UA
Max Bombardiers + UA
Min Demo Corps
Kovnik
Suppression Tanker
Suppression Tanker
Strike Tanker
Strike Tanker OR max Mechaniks (still on the fence about this)
Ragman
Load up the Shocktroopers as your buffed unit from Irusk1. They can be sitting on ARM23 in shieldwall and still advancing 9" (4+ 2 (Kovnik) +3 (reform)). Ragman follows them for protection and making them hit harder. Add Battlelust if you need to. Basically a pretty much immovable anchor that take a lot of effort to take down and will keep grinding.
Demo Corps are a disposable unit that can do lots of damage when you add Battlelust - the min unit should take down a Juggernaut on the charge. Victor can run 12" turn 1, and is then very relevant for the rest of the game in different ways. Combine with Bombardiers for a reasonable ranged assassination threat with arcing fire. Tankers are great solos. Inhospitable ground is a good way to slow charges on the list, which makes everything more survivable. Mechaniks if you take them are great after the feat. It depends if they stay alive to get there.
Sorscha3 with double Shocktroopers, 2 Kodiaks, 1 Marauder and the Tankers is also a really good base for an Armored Corps list, where the jacks do more of the work.

What do you own? And what’s painted? I own everything in the faction with multiples of most things (2x Gun Carriage, 2x Man-O-War Chariots, 3x Colossals magnetized, 2x Uhlans, 2x Outriders, etc.) I am working through my back log of painting right now. I know it seems crazy but I really enjoy the hobby side of the game and kept buying models with the hope to play more in the future. Its time to get back in the saddle.

Given what you listed outright, you could have a helluva time playing the new (not yet released) Warriors of the Old Faith theme with Vlad 3.
But I digress.
Do you also own, say 3-5 units of doomreavers?

I have 9 units and 3 UAs that have been collecting dust since the MKII days. Ok. Well, then.. 1. Wolves. Doomreavers are good. All of the support is good. Outriders are good and great with Vlad 2. There are a couple of good threads on Wolves builds so read those. 2. Armored Korp. Every true Khador player bought a bunch of MoW and the. Put them on the shelf for ages because they sucked. Now they’re really good. Discountgames or any of the tournament listings on Conflict Chamber (several threads to links to those - southern Ontario, welsh masters, ATC.

I played a fun Vlad1 Jaws list over the weekend, not sure how competitive it is, but was trying out Kossites in the new scenarios that are in CID. I do have to say, it was a heck of a lot of fun for an experiment.
Khador Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Jaws of the Wolf
[Vladimir 1] Vladimir Tzepesci, the Dark Prince [+28] - Behemoth [25] - Juggernaut [13] - Juggernaut [13] - Spriggan [17] - War Dog [3] Kovnik Apprentice Kratikoff [0(4)] - Berserker [8] Manhunter [0(4)] Manhunter [4] Yuri the Axe [0(6)] Battle Mechaniks (min) [3] Kayazy Eliminators [5] Kayazy Eliminators [5] Kossite Woodsmen (min) [7]

Ok, going to look into the various Wolves threads. Definitely want to get the Doomies back on the table. I see that Vlad2 is a popular caster for that theme, at least from the tournament scene.
Thanks for the list suggestions everyone. I will certainly try those out in the next few weeks.
