I’m starting a journeyman league tomorrow and wanted to document my games as I take the plunge into Convergence. I have my path already planned out taking Syntherion and building towards a Locke list in DI. The starting list is:
Forge Master Syntherion - WJ: +27 - Monitor - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Diffuser - PC: 6 (Battlegroup Points Used: 6) - Galvanizer - PC: 5 (Battlegroup Points: 5)
I’m anticipating seeing almost every other faction.
I will update this thread with my battle reports and list additions as the weeks go by.
For this first week, is there any recommendations for a new CoC player to keep in mind? Any cool plays or model interactions within the Battlebox?
I’m not planning on using Hot Shot at all for these first games, instead focusing on giving the Monitor Reconstruct, and Synergy on Synth. I feel like with single shot non-AoE guns I’m better off Inducting the one Focus to boost the damage roll manually. I could see argument that with free upkeeps Hot Shot saves me the one Focus and I could easily have it on the Diffuser turn two onwards.

Week 1 Recap
For the first week of Journeyman I was able to get in three games on our game night. I went 2-1, winning vs. Cryx MK3 and Skorne MK2 while losing against the Ossrum Mercs MK3 Box (easily one of the strongest battleboxes week 1). Our league allowed MK3 AND MK2 BG boxes.
Week 1 was Mangled Metal and was played on a 3’ x 3’ play-space. The goal of Mangled Metal is to kill either the Caster or all of the jacks/beasts.
Cryx: This game I won the roll-off and chose to go first. I ran up the board with the jacks and put up Synergy and Reconstruct on the Monitor. My opponent ran up the board.
Next turn I stayed out of Charge ranges of the Heavies and shot the Arcnode off the table. I put the Galvanizer a little forward to bait out one of the Heavies. My opponent took the bait and walked the Reaper up. He drug the Glavanizer forward but did not kill it.
The following turn I feated and killed the Reaper. I kept the Moniter just far enough for The Slayer to reach it but not Agathia. He kills the Galvanizer and triggers Reconstruct on the Monitor. I finish him off by killing the Slayer with a +1 Synergy Monitor.
Skorne: He was playing Morghoul1 MK2 Battlebox. I won the roll and chose to go first. This box is fast. It is impossible for me to stay out of threat of the two Cyclops here. I put the two lights more forward than the Monitor and Synth. He runs and engages my lights with one of the Cyclops.
Turn 2, I cripple the one Cyclops and Magnetic Hold the other, I chose to camp 3 here because I knew he’d get on me with the crippled Cyclops. His turn he goes in with the Cyclops but chooses not to Abuse it, he didn’t want to re-cripple it after he healed it. He leaves Synth on 3 boxes after Focus. He also moves Morghoul forward and feats here.
Turn 3 is an interesting one. I cannot spend Focus this turn with my jacks. I upkeep Synergy. I start the chain with Syntherion. I feat and boost an attack into a Cyclops. I hit and Synergy goes to 1. My Galvanizer is next and he attacks the same Cyclops, hitting and moving Synergy up to 2. The Diffuser is next and he also hits, maxing out Synergy.
My opponent forgot that I get free Charges on my feat turn and left Morghoul within Charge range of the Monitor. I have one shot at this needing a 7 to hit, which I get. At dice plus 6 I need a 9 to one shot him, which I also get.
Mercs: I lose the roll and go second. My opponent Snipes a gunner and shoots at me top of 1. It does some damage to the Galvanizer. He then runs up with everything else, but stays out of threat of all my jacks. I can see where this is going so I camp my full stack here and move the jacks a little forward.
Turn 2, he shoots my caster down to 12 boxes. Ossrum Feats and is able to get the Driller into Syntherion. I have three Focus left at this time. When it’s all said and done I have 3 boxes left.
I try my best on the following turn to not die. I put up Synergy and camp 1. I start the chain on the Driller with Synth. The Galvanizer Charges the Blaster and Synergy goes to 2. The Diffuser goes and gets Synergy to 3. Even at 3 Synergy, the Monitor is still -2 on every Damage roll. I fail to kill the Driller, but I do knock out the Cortex and Arms here.
His next turn he puts up Bulldoze and with his last Gunner shot takes down Syntherion.
Post Game Thoughts: These first two weeks are odd. Some boxes really shine here, especially those playing the old MK2 boxes. I think when week three rolls around, and I move into Destruction Initiative, I’ll be sitting in a good spot. Having the Servitor Shield Guards will be super strong against a lot of these boxes and gaining another heavy that week will also help with the ARM cracking problem I have right now.
I tied for first in points with my W:L between myself, the Mercs player, and a Menoth player (playing Malekus).
Next week I am adding the Corollary and a second Galvanizer, playing down four points. I’m not sure if taking an Invertor next week would be more beneficial to me though. I don’t think I need a Corollary just yet and having that second Heavy would help out a ton. Then in week three I can add in the Corollary, Galvanizer, Optifex Directive, and a bunch of Servitors.
I will try and remember pictures for next week.

I appreciate the reports! Though Syntherion has never been my favorite caster I still just appreciate battle reports involving convergence . Also yeah, the dwarf battle box is stupid... and that's coming from a dwarf fanatic... but congratz on your other wins!
