I played a game with Grissel 2 last night. She has the quake effect on her gun with a 3" AOE with knockdown on direct hit.
My opponent insisted that this only knocked down the model DIRECTLY hit, not all models within the AOE. I pushed back quite a bit but eventually let it go and only knocked down the target directly hit. In the end, I pulled out the victory so no harm no foul, but I wanted to be sure.
Does quake knock down ALL models within the 3" AOE if it hits the initial target? Is there a rule clarification from PP that communicates this more clearly somewhere? I even read the battlecollege clarification but he wondered if it was too old or had been nerfed since the card didn't say the exact same text.

Your opponent certainly managed to pull a fast one, given the text of Quake:
On a direct hit against an enemy model, all models hit become knocked down.
You can't directly hit more than one model, so referring to multiple models is a dead giveaway. Also, you can check the core rules to find the exact spot it says so, but all models under the AOE template are considered to be hit by an attack (just not directly hit).

Thanks. I hadn't considered checking AOE rules to clarify further. Thanks. He certainly wasn't trying to cheat or pull a fast one. It was a friendly game between friends.
Half way through the game I found out that for months I have been adding 4 to my beasts threshold checks because the War room app automatically adds +2 to threshold when you're in theme. I have been seeing the threshold it listed and adding 2 to it myself also. Oops!

Didn't mean to actually accuse your friend of cheating, that's just my sense of humour Everyone makes mistakes with the rules from time to time.
