Lately I've been overly competitive and decided that I would only run lists that seem fun at every and any chance I got, including events. Maybe the dark horse power will help me win more, maybe not. We have a very good stable of casters with a few that just don't make the cut. Feora2, Malekus, Tristan, and Feora3 all spring to mind as the casters that I frequently see as our least successful. There's plenty of reasons why each doesn't compete, but why not try to make the most competitive list possible for them?
Now that we have new and exciting options, we can probably be fairly successful with Feora3 with all the shield guards in Faithful Masses without worrying about how enemy guns love large base caster problems.
My focus is on Malekus, though. As our Battlebox caster, he is the introduction to Menoth. While the box doesn't suit him, he isn't a slouch. He has a situationally defensive upkeep, an offensive upkeep, a very offensive feat, and decent stats. He's a very offense oriented caster.
While it isn't anything new, the Revelator loves him. Any fire guns love him. Our major source of fire guns in Cleansers is RAT 5. While that isn't bad, it isn't great and Severius0 is not allowed in that theme. So I like the idea of warjacks everywhere. Eye of Truth makes a great tarpit on his own, he's almost impossible to 1 round by less than 2 heavies. Eye of Truth also doubles as a buff bot.
Malekus -30 -Revelator 37 -Eye of Truth 20 -Reckoner 16 -Hierophant 3
Sevy0 (0) -Repenter 8 -Repenter 8
Min choir 4 Min Choir 4 Vassal 0 Vassal 0 3 Mechaniks 3 2 Wracks 2
Sevy and 2 repenters is old tech. So is Malekus with the Revelator. However, mixing them gives you accuracy all over the place. Could we just call Sevy "Bacon?" He goes with everything. On feat turn, you can shoot away an enemy Garg or colossal. That's pretty nice. I think the field control of 2 accurate sprays and 2-3 scorched earth templates is also pretty fun.

I was thinking that this could be an interesting list for our resident fire lord. conflictchamber.com/?c2201b_-0dfZgSg9melM9x9x3z3z303G3HProtectorate Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Creator's Might [Malekus 1] Malekus, the Burning Truth [+30] - Eye of Truth [20] - Revelator [37] - Hierophant [0(3)] Scrutator Potentate Severius [0(6)] - Repenter [8] - Repenter [8] Vassal of Menoth [3] Vassal of Menoth [3] Choir of Menoth (max) [6] Idrian Skirmishers (max) [15] - Idrian Skirmisher Chieftain & Guide [5] Hard to justify the revalator though when it could be a judicator+3 wracks.

The Revelator gives him a whole battery of fire for his feat. I think he's one of very few casters that prefer it.
I've also thought about Feora2 with 2 Judicators. Swap Firestarter every round and Escort gives them decent speed. The Judicators also don't really need Ignite or anything that she lost in the MkII to MkIII transition.

Funny enough, I have a Tristan2 list that I want to try out. I had a version of it for the BE CID, but did not het to try it with him (it was fine with Sevy1 ). So now that we have Sev0, heres the revision. Theme: The Creator's Might 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army Stockpile - Steamroller Objective Sovereign Tristan Durant - WJ: +28 - Hierophant - PC: 0 - Guardian - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 15) - Reckoner - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 13) - Reckoner - PC: 16 - Dervish - PC: 7 Vessel of Judgment - PC: 18 Vessel of Judgment - PC: 18 The Covenant of Menoth - PC: 0 Wrack - PC: 1 Wrack - PC: 1 Scrutator Potentate Severius - PC: 0 - Dervish - PC: 7 Choir of Menoth - Leader & 3 Grunts: 4 I guess you hope those guns and healing are enough? Theres some melee to back it up if someone runs to engage.

I'd almost be tempted to run that same list with 4 Indictors as the battle group and no covenant with 3 free wracks instead to make up the points. Huge armor skew and it gets almost totally healed up every round. Double Vessel is also super interesting, those are some powerful guns.

Ive found this Malekus list so-so. I think Guardians just needs to get better, though.

Malekus, the Burning Truth - WJ: +30 - Eye of Truth - PC: 20 (Battlegroup Points Used: 20) - Repenter - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8) - Repenter - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 2)
Nicia, Tear of Vengeance - PC: 0 Pyrrhus, Flameguard Hero - PC: 0 Wrack - PC: 1
Choir of Menoth - Leader & 3 Grunts: 4 Daughters of the Flame - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10 Flameguard Cleansers - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 - Flameguard Cleanser Officer - PC: 4 Thorn Gun Mages - Leader & 2 Grunts: 9 Temple Flameguard - Leader & 9 Grunts: 11 - Temple Flameguard Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 4 Flame Bringers - Leader & 2 Grunts: 11

I will always,ALWAYS suggest the following list whenever Tristan2 comes up. I really like it, and (at least at the beginning of Mk3, last time I took it to a local tournament) does quite well for a dark horse list.
Tristan2 Hierophant Devout Castigator x2 Indictor x2 Templar x2 min Choir x2 support to taste
Run the heavy jacks in pods of three, with one of each heavy. This gives you infantry-clearing (Combustion on Castigator), Shield Guard (templar), and anti-magic (Indictor), plus you can potentially have 5 ARM21 jacks.

Of those 4, I would say only Malakus is really a dud. Feora2 is just waiting for Infantry to be back in style. Feora3 very good, her only problem is that she has to expose herself. Tristan is also very good with a jack heavy list.

Feora3 very good, her only problem is that she has to expose herself. I really feel like the Initiates bumped her up a ton. Madelyn and Initiates makes her pretty tough. Faithful Masses loves a caster like her, especially when Idrians are +4/+4 against a prey target. Then the damage swing on her heavies is absurd and probably not necessary, but fun to think about.

Or Warder + Madelyn? 17/18 aint nothing.

I'd love to know how well the BoV works with Sev0. I feel like it gives a really good scalpel/assassination angle on the feat turn since the first Immolate is going to be a boostable 15+3d6. If you double boost that one cast, it has a solid chance of Crit Fire and average 29 damage before armor reduction. The following 12+3d6 fire roll should finish off whatever lives.

In the one game I tried BoV with him it did pretty good, the Immolate through him on Malekus' feat turn was especially fun!
