Ok folks. So decided I wasn't as excited about Zerkova1 as I would like. Lots of reasons but ultimately I think that the meta is still in a place, at least in Southern California, where she has to hang back too far to avoid walk and die or pay 13 points for a babysitting "Watcher" juggernaught.
And thus today I went V2 AC and Sorcha1 in Wolves. 5 units of doomies, 2 ternions 2 bad santas, one Forgeseer, and then Ruin AND Beast 09 in a local 10 man SR. First time with Sorscha1 but I am hopping that I will just be able to drop Vlad2 for practice (good luck with that.....)
Match 1 it is a one list new Cygnar player with Gravediggers. Well this will not end well. Essentially freeze two units of Trenchers on feat and scenario bully to 5-0 win. Didn't kill that much (this will be a theme) but infantry machine is not good. Not a great test as this was the players 5th game and he really didn't understand scenario scoring.
Match 2. Mirror. He has Vlad2 in AC and Zerk2 with double ponies. I originally feared that drop but in thinking about it later s1 has immunity to cold so a huge part of the game is negated. But he ends up dropping Vlad2
Well again, didn't go well. He is scared about the doomies threat range and really doesn't want to waste is feat. Victor does do some fire but keeping well spread out using my blast key helps a ton. Meanwhile I simply bully the center forest, removing a supression tanker and a chariot that got too close. Feat turn Sorscha freezes out the demo corp and leaves him with limited ways to contest the right flank. I go and clear the one demo corp (Dragos) with a huge number of doomies and then Ruin charges and ruins the objective and I win 7-2.
Final table I get moghul and makeda3. I have played morghul as he blinds by AC so that is bad. Spell ward being a thing I get Makeda 3. We muck around a bit. I kill the supreme guardian with a brittle frost and charging doomies since he doesn't have a soul in the Beast Theme. He kills Ruin with Molik Karn, surfs the dream after I mistakening take a free strike and give Makeda 3 battlecharged for pathfinder (won't do THAT again) so she surfs through a good 7-8 doomies. But she makes a mistake and doesn't cast either the no stationary or fatewalker, putting her in an exposed place.
Weel it is go time. 1 to Beast. Empowered him to full up. Sorshca wind rushes. On her way she hands out boundless charge to Beast. We then measure it out and I am a quarter inch in so I can just charge -feat- and start wacking (not sure that made a difference). With 4 transfers she is in trouble. S1 hits her with the 4 dice charge and then the 3 dice second. Beast charges for free and with just 2 transfers left she takes the necessary damage from Beast. I had a last doomie ready to charge who MIGHT have bee out of agonizer range. Win good guys.
So went 3-0 and finished second on SoS.
It is really strong. 13 inches on 1 unit of doomies is REALLY good. Def 15 doomies are really good with FoW. Sorscha is really good with personal melee with Shatter. And Beast and Ruin are two GREAT jacks that work well with the points we have.
I highly recommend the lovers pair. Vlad2 makes people feel they need Armor cracking and that often, at least right now, is infantry. S1 LOVES to see about 90% of the infantry in the game. So you really have a decent pair.
I think one change I am going to make to my Vlad Pair is dropping the Tinker and going Conquest. While Fire is Great I think in a lot of matches I want that sweet critical devestation to throw beast bricks all over the place. But time will tell.
