Thank you! On my nicest pieces I always take a little bit of time to search for some inspirational photos. I found a great example of that look for the stone Elder. I put the pyre troll and storm troll on the painting table tonight. As absolute proof that I am getting faster, they were just primed to start the night. I’d like to hear from y’all about the pyre troll. It’s wip for sure, but mostly done. What I’m not pleased with is the face. I’d been wanting a “lava” type effect with the skin so it actually gets darkest at the peaks. Problem on the face with this is that it looks terrible that way. Highlights on peaks really help define facial features. I’m trying to lighten it up, but can’t go totally opposite to the rest of the body either. Any ideas to help?

Maybe a light drybrush in a cool colour (eg medium/darkish blueish grey)? That way your getting the advantage of normal stone texture painting methods, bringibg out the details, but hopefully without interfering with or overpowering the lava effect?

I wish the picture showed the face a bit better, it’s hard to suggest much when it seems to be small and out of focus. The stone scribe looks fantastic by the way.

There we go. The plan for these guys is certainly tabletop. Not like my stone unit that I plan on being on the table with every list. I may come back by one day and snag a 2nd to make one that’s more presentation worthy. Even with that said though... I’d like the contrast and details to look good from a short distance.

Why are the details on his face white? The rest of his body has yellow as the lightest color and it makes his face look unfinished. Maybe use the lightest shade of yellow for the eyes?

Agreed, it does look unfinished. I finished it like the rest with yellow being the brightest in the deepest spots and black on the raised edges and decided that I hated that first. Then I tried a second time (which is what you see here) and finished again and decided I hated that too. Lol I’ll try the cool colors on the raised edges idea and the yellow eyes pretty soon, but I’m still totally open to other ideas. As is, it just looks washed out and ugly. Lol

I’m not a trollblood model fan but I do like the pyre troll. I think he’d be a challenge to paint but it looks quite tricky. I was looking at a google search on pyre trolls and one thing I noticed was most of them didn’t have black skin. That surprised me because I never noticed that before. The details like the rocks on their backs were black but the rest of their skin was purple or another dark color. There was one outlier. It was painted yellow and blue. It was a bit weird.

Fire Eaters! Love these guys on the table and painting. The goal was table top, but I always spend more time than I’m planning to on models I really like. Now I wish I had gone slower on assembly. Will come back and highlight later, Adepticon is days away and I have a Kolgrima to get to!

I managed to finish painting both of my entire lists for Adepticon’s Champions tourney. I had a goal to not lose on clock the entire weekend and feel really good, only clocking one game in all of my matches the whole weekend. Here’s a pic of my favorite current list, Kolgrima in SotN.

What is that small base model? A Swamp Gobber Chef?

What is that small base model? A Swamp Gobber Chef? Yep! Not much utility other than running to a flag or zone. Def 14 is relevant enough at times, but he’s just there to round out the points.

Chefs kill solos. Seriously, for me they have killed: -Greylord Forge Seer, -Shifting Stone, -Druid Wilder, -Finished off a cryx bonejack. He is a mass murderer!

Had a friend charge a gobber chef into Tiberion's back and box car the 4d6 roll. 13 points of damage by a 1 point model.
