Yeah thats some very nice progress there ! Please show us the chronicler once hes done, i think hell turn out great. For the bases id have a small suggestion. You are using all the right material but as far as i can see you prefer to not paint them. That looks a bit of with the painted models on top. Id start with a solid layer of some kind of fine gravel, leave some spots open for bigger rocks or whatever you want to have on it. Then you prime and paint it (drybrushing is more than enough) and then in the end you add grass and things like that. Just a suggestion mind you.^^

Thanks! I was just saying last night after my game that I need to get back to the painting table and get my UA finished. They look great on the table!
That's exactly how I did the bases btw. It is more of a sand as the base below the grass. Then I put a brown wash on it to look like dirt. The edges aren't a color on purpose. I painted them flat black on purpose, I love the contrast. Hopefully the bases will be more detailed on the larger bases. I'm excited to get started on my 2nd Earthborn soon. I'm going to paint him in an Uruk Hai theme with a white hand on his forehead.

The Mountain King is officially on the table! I'm working from dark to light in this one (then I'll finish with a wash and highlights). I'd say the skin is about halfway finished. I'm using foam to paint the skin and I'm REALLY liking the effect. I started with a base in black, then foamed in white, then a very thin coat of dark blue and a foam painted lighter blue.

The next steps done. Lightened the skin tone, added some purple and green highlights, highlighted edges and put down a maroon wash.

And now that I see the picture his forehead is driving me mad. Lol. I'll have to go back and darken that for sure.

I think it looks fantastic, with the light forehead and all. I'd keep the lighter forehead anyways, and try to lighten the rest of the skin to that level.

Coming back a day later I have to agree with you. I was originally wanting to go lighter than this sp it's not that the forehead is too light it's just lighter than the rest of his body. It just looked so good that I didn't want to try my luck and keep painting! Ha! Couldn't have done the skin without help from these two sources: m.youtube.com/watch?v=6HjkO44H-AUwww.wargamingtradecraft.com/2015/07/painting-mountain-kings-skin.html?m=1

Love the paintjob, looks like a lot of effort went into it. The gap between the rocks on his back is really noticeable though and detracts from the effort you have put into painting him. I would suggest using some greenstuff to fill the gaps.

Agreed. I purchased him used and partially assembled and that gap has been driving me mad. I tried pulling it apart and felt it was glued strong enough that I may break it, so I'm going to have to go the filling route. I've already filled some along the back, but paused because it is tedious and I hate it. Lol.
The end product will not have that ugly gap for sure.

With some new Northkin models nearing completion I figured I’d update this old thread with a few new pics.

They look great! Very nice bases, I love the bears (don't let Blarg see them!) and the icy weapons.

I feel like you're on the cusp of being pro as you say. Very nice models

I feel like you're on the cusp of being pro as you say. Very nice models Thank you! I typically know where I can get away with being mediocre; I feel trolls are fairly forgiving in that regard. What I lack in skill, I try to make up for in willingness to redo and patience. I need to work on two brush blending. That will help a great deal. But just understanding how to apply a good wash, a good glaze and highlights can get you past typical table top quality. Layering has been the thing I have learned most recently. Beginning with a color that I know is far lighter or darker than what I am planning to end at and then “glazing” to the shade I want with multiple thin coats. This allows me to glaze more in highlight/shadow areas and hide my two brush blending ineptitude. Lol

Champs and Fell Caller finished up! I’m getting much faster. I’ve got some new painting supplies coming this week including a W&N series 7 size 0. I’m expecting it to be my new norm except for eyes and washes.

I immediately noticed after posting this pic that I didn’t detail the leader’s weapons. That’s now solved. Lol
